Nice Open Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Wide open. The high grass rough is almost 12 inches high. If you throw one off line there are very few trees to slow/stop a poor shot from sailing on and on. An easy to manage course. Good signs, easy to follow. Tees are concrete, fairways well maintained, Baskets are in good shape.

Cons:

The grass rough really does not need to be as high as it is. Grass is about 12 inches tall, 6 inches would work just as well.

Other Thoughts:

I will be playing this course repeatedly for a while. Really enjoyed it.

Cant go wrong 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 28, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful park. Well maintained. Fairly good selection of BH/FH/tunnel shots.

Cons:

Could make the "rough" a little shorter. People love to walk their dogs there. Snakes. Poison ivy

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice relaxing 9 holes and would play it again and again.

nice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

pretty course, some long distance holes
not really for a novice like me when discs fly off to right
or left
nice signs, concrete tees

Cons:

grass was kind of high the day i was there
i could loose a disc here, i wouldn't call it a beginner place
in fact i talked to the maintenance guy who was to mow the fairways after i completed the 9 holes, he said he did not know if in the future it would be open to non- residents of Cypresswood, right now it is on their HOA property

Other Thoughts:

it's open to non-residents now
take advantage of playing this nice course while you can

Nice 9 Hole Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 26, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

This may be one of the better, if not has the potential to be, 9 hole courses in Houston. It plays through a small wooded area that has little to no interference by any other park go-ers.

I would say that this course is on the borderline of "Lightly Wooded" and "Moderately Wooded." The trees that are in play shape the lines that you need to take off the tee. All of the holes were fair and the fairways were nicely mowed (so keep it in the fairways). The holes also all had different lines off the tees. Hole 7 was the one true "tight and straight" hole on the course.

Being a newer course, this course already has its "shoes," meaning nice big concrete tees, brand new Mach Vs and well designed and descriptive hole signs with a course overview at the beginning of the course. I also liked the elevated basket on Hole 5.

I was very impressed with the length of the course. Most 9 hole courses are shorter and more geared to newer players. It was nice to be able to have a little bit of length on shots, but they still were not frustratingly long.

Cons:

The tall grass is the only real fixable issue on the course. The mowed fairways are really small, and the grass is very deep making it very possible to lose a disc or at least spend some time looking for discs.

I hope that this is something that can be addressed. On the last fewer holes, which were the longer of the holes, I felt hesitant to really throw as far as I could because of the risk of throwing a little bit off and landing in tall grass.

Other Thoughts:

Besides the grass, this course is great. It is a great addition to an area that does not have a relatively near course. This is a fun course, one that I would not mind playing. Kudos to Andi and Don Young for putting this course in.

Fun and cared for 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 18, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a professionally-designed brand new course (June 2016) in an area of lightly wooded meadow behind the Cypresswood subdivision clubhouse.

- Brand new baskets, good size concrete tee pads, and colorful signs with hole information.
- Practice basket next to large parking area.
- The layout is easy to follow thanks to mowed pathways. Great map at the parking area if you need it.
- There are plenty of large shade trees, but enough open space to still have options off the tee.
- The rough doesn't really punish errant shots, so it's still possible to save par most of the time.
- A couple of left-to-right holes, a couple of right-to-left, and a couple tunnel shots make for some variety.
- Longer than most 9-hole courses in the area (hole avg is 350'), which makes a nice challenge.
- No other activities to interfere with the course. No walking path, no playground to throw around.

Cons:

- While there is variety in the direction of the holes, the tree/grass terrain is repetitive. This is more due to the land than the design. All but #7 have tall grass on either side serving as rough, and a few trees to force your choice of lines. A few guardian trees near the baskets mark the greens. 6 and 7 use the more wooded area well but the other holes are too similar to really earn a higher rating.
- The tall grass can make it difficult to find a disc that goes off the fairway. Just another reason to stay on the fairway.
- It appears that some holes get swampy after a rain (dried mud near #6 and #7), but I played a couple days after a storm and it was totally dry.
- No benches or trash cans

Other Thoughts:

- A little long for beginners, perfect for Rec/Int, a bit short for Adv/Open. I think that's probably what they were going for.
- No real danger of losing a disc, unless you flip it over on #3 and go into the bayou. There's also a barbed wire fence on the right of #7 which indicates private property. Don't throw your disc under/over/through that and you're fine. It's a bit deep in the rough so shouldn't be an issue.
- Fairways will be mowed weekly according to the employee we met during our rounds. The Cypresswood HOA is clearly interested in keeping this course in good condition. He also mentioned future plans for alternate tees and/or basket positions.
