Deer Lick Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 17, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Has concrete tee pads

Has tee signs

Has updated baskets (pictures here don't do it justice)

Has alternate basket placements for some holes

Has some benches throughout course

Course flows pretty well except for between holes #9 & #10

Has good mix of wooded and open fairways

Most holes have changes in elevations

Free Parking

Restrooms

Cons:

Some of the wooded fairways are narrow and can be quite unfair such as holes #4, #7, #8

Hole #14 has a swing near the fairway if the basket is in the long position

Course can get crowded with other parkgoers which can interfere in playing hole #14

Other Thoughts:

Course was renumbered back in 2013 so some of the earlier reviews could be misleading.
As noted in my course conditions update, construction of a new animal control center broke ground in March 2016 and has affected holes #1, #2, #5, #6, and #9. If wasn't for the construction, I would rate this a point higher. Hopefully, this course gets redesigned as it's one of my favorites to play and it's a short drive from nearby Boundary Waters Park. The park is very popular with parkgoers but you won't really come into contact with them until holes #11-14.

Was not impressed 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

I love the sport so I'm just glad that they had a course.

Cons:

Signage was terrible.
Layout didn't make sense
Some holes didn't even have lines that were discernible.
Some holes had HUGE walks between.
It was a frustrating course.

Other Thoughts:

It was have probably been more enjoyable with a local.
probably a descent round for a newbie.

Fun and Challenging course with a few flaws 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 8, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course has a great set of holes and can be played by about anyone. There are a lot of elevation changes and little creek beds that run through some fairways that are easy to avoid but can prove challenging if you are off your game.

Cons:

A few holes are hard to find without the map that is provided at the office. Hole 3s basket is almost impossible to find even with help, the trick is to throw up along the road until you find the basket. Some of the wooded holes need to be a bit less wooded, there are absolutely no shots from some positions.

Other Thoughts:

As my first course I have played in GA this one is great as a start.

Nice course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 27, 2007 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course was expanded from a short 9 holer to the current 18. This upgrade made the course much, much better than the original. There's decent hole length variety (1of 195/ 12 of 200-299/ 2 of 300-399/ 3 of 400-485), but 2/3 are under 300. This is mostly because 1-7, from the original layout, are pretty short. The terrain has a good mix of wooded, open, and mixed terrain holes. Mild elevation changes with a drop of 18 ft on hole 4 being the greatest. The creek down the middle of the fairway on hole 4 is very scenic and adds great risk vs. reward. The pond in play on hole 3 is nice too. There's a map available in the park office, but I didn't get one.

Cons:

More work needs to be done on the tees and signs for 8-18, but it looks like that's in progress and will happen as the new layout gets broken in more. Tee 9 is a long walk and hard to find, so make sure to get the map. Tee 17 could also be hard to find. The majority of the holes are straight, with only 1 dogleg right (13 St/ 4 Lt/ 1 R). There are potential safety issues on hole 8 with errant drives that can hyzer onto the main road leading into the park (mine did!), and on 18 a drive could be shanked to the right onto the park road loop.

Other Thoughts:

Course Level = White
There seems to be a short and long basket position on hole 7, but I'm not positive.
My favorite hole = 4. Although the first part is too open for my taste the drive has plenty of risk vs. reward since the fairway plays down a creek. This last half is really pretty. The basket by the creek is the prettiest green on the course. Hole 13 is a really fun open ace run that I threw lots of shots on. Holes 14 is a very challenging tightly wooded 400 ft par 4.
