The Dexter park course begins along the reservoir In picturesque setting, and winds through the woods in a series of holes that are heavily wooded with some quite interesting lines.

The teepds are fairly long and have a bit of texture to them, so even though they were a bit wet today it was still fairly grippy. Many of them have a gravel runoff area which is nice, I wish more of the holes had that.

The shots are varied and many are challenging, with tons of tree guarded pins, some OB near baskets. And some o the longest par threes I've ever seen it's a fun play.

Baskets were pretty standard baskets and have two possible placements available. Looks like the are in the longer B position on most holes right now.

The signs are nice, with a good view of the hole and a nickname for them as well. It shows both placements and has a spot to show which pin is in but that was not updated.

There were some awesome wooden plank stairs carved into the muddy hills and they were very helpful. Getting up some of those would be a job with no steps.

Really good use of elevation here both up and down hill. It can really turn you into a hero or zero depending on how well you are at throwing certain shots.

The course is pretty cool, but it needs some TLC. The tee signs are awesome but a ton are missing.

And the course isn't super easy to navigate, if you don't have the map it would be easy to go to the wrong pad at a few spots. After #3 you can actually see the 4, 17 and 9 tees so it could be easy for a new player to get turned around.

There is also a long unmarked walk from 10 to 11 that I saw several people miss.

I saw two groups skip from 10 to 18 and skip the rest of the course, perhaps because the flow at that point is interrupted.

Baskets aren't bad but they are Older DGA baskets so they catch plenty well, but have no banding or color. On a heavily wooded course I would have liked a more easily spotted target.

This is a fun course no mistake, and the layout is fun, and setting quite beautiful.

It has its flaws but overlay it's a really fun place to play.

I did think the fact that number one and 18, which are 490 or so and 594 respectively, were par threes was odd but I won't detract as it possible keeps it more interesting.

Overally it seems more wet coast corses have loner Par 3s than I am used to, so that might be a factor.

Dexter is my home course and she can be a cruel mistress. It says something about my skill, but more about the course, that although I play there more than anywhere I still do not score well consistently. This course challenges all aspects of your game. You will be punished in the woods if you cannot hit the line off the tee. To score really well at Dexter you need to be able to shape shots in every direction, and a good roller in the dry season will help too.

Dexter is not a great beginner course, but it does see a lot of beginner play, which can be frustrating when you are trying to get around on a nice day. Large groups of chuckers with loose dogs and more beer than discs are not uncommon on a nice summer day.

It is a great course for newer more serious players to learn how to shape shots and handle challenges. And it has high replay value for veterans of any experience level. Dexter has been dinged for being too hard, or unfair even. I don't agree at all. Some of the lines are challenging, and the rollaways on the hillside can be tough. But that's disc golf. Not every course needs to be the same, and that's why we love the sport.

From wide open holes requiring maximum distance to short and steep uphill and downhill touch shots with tight lines, Dexter has a little bit of everything. Recent work in the park to restore oak habitat has been a source of irritation for some people. Personally, I think it was really needed for the overall health of the forested parts of the park and I don't feel it has made the course all that much easier. The fact that there are a few new lines and somewhat better chances for birdie on some holes has made the course better overall.

Best shot doubles on Sundays at 11 a.m. is a great event for anyone looking for a fun competititve round. Local "Dexter Doubles" rule is that a pair can each play their own shot if they want, for those times when you just can't agree.

Long and challenging, often tightly wooded fairways, mixed with some open. Several unique holes. Good use of elevation, featuring a steep downhill putter throw through woods, and later 2 steep uphill tunnels. Great tee pads, has signs. Tough even for a top pro.

I'd change a few holes to make them a bit more realistic and fair, yet still wooded and tough. Some holes just don't teach worthwhile skills, requiring too much luck to cut through tiny gaps.
