Beginners Will Learn About Treekicks

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ The 9 includes a handful of very nice holes, combining open and wooded areas in the park

+ Short and a very good course for beginners, although they might be very frustrated by tight lanes through a thick grove of mature trees on the middle holes (at least they'll learn the importance of throwing straight!)

+ WIth the glaring exception of Hole #2 (see Cons), the course doesn't interfere with other park activities

+ As is the case with many short park layouts, mostly straight holes. But #2 is a dogleg left (over the pavilion), a few have slight turns, and #8 requires a RHFH or turnover to score

Cons:

- Hole #2 requires a throw up and over a picnic pavilion that's directly in front of the tee

- The course appears to hold water (the first tee was underwater after a rain)

Other Thoughts:

~ Small concrete tees, rusting DisCatcher baskets, posts at each tee with simple signage indicating length

~ Mapped on uDisc, but with the tee posts visible from baskets, it's pretty intuitive to navigate. The one possible confusing spot is that you have to backtrack over 2 to get the the third tee

~ There's an 18 hole "safari" layout mapped on uDisc. This course is good for practice, for a quick round, for working on putters and upshots. For me, it was just a bagging stop, and it wasn't worth the effort to find alternate tees to play 18

RECOMMENDED COMBINATIONS:
Easy to combine with MayDel (another park 9), Killens Pond State Park and/or Tuckahoe State Park for a multistate day of disc golf

Cute little course 👼 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Some tight lanes make the little course interesting. Impossible to loose a disc but could definitely be challenging for new players because of the tree lines.

Cons:

No clue where the next tees are half the time.

Other Thoughts:

Great for a skins game.
Great to play with a mid or putter for practice.
Very peaceful park

Only one in Dover 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 17, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Not too much brush, hard to lose discs.
Good for beginners.
Front 9 is well marked.

Cons:

Back 9 tee boxes are hard to find.
There aren't really any tee boxes, just signs.
One or two DisCatchers are broken, yet somewhat usable.

Other Thoughts:

Course map on DG Course Review is up to date and handy, especially on back 9. Back 9 tees marked with small signs nailed to trees. Not a bad beginner course as most holes are much shorter than 300', and longer holes cross mowed fields so it is good to try long drives without fear of losing discs or getting way off course. Nice little course.

Newbie here... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 26, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Price is right
Shorter for a newbie like me

Cons:

Not well maintained
A bit rundown
No scorecard or maps available at the course

Other Thoughts:

I didn't list many pros or cons because I'm pretty new to the sport. But since the last review was over a year ago, I figured I would add one.

Based on the pictures posted here, I added the course map including the supposed back 9 routing. I adapted from the map given at the park's website.

The maps that were purported to be available were nowhere to be found. Since I had my phone I was able to access the map from the park website. Otherwise finding tee #9 would have been tough.

The park itself could use some TLC, let alone the course. The tee areas have lost some of their boards, leaving behind rusty spikes sticking up from the ground. Since I had no clue about the Back 9 routing, I can't confirm the presence of all the 10-18 tee signs. I noticed a few in the course of my first visit.

As far as comparing, I've never played any other course, so I won't comment about the stylistic virtues. It does seem like a good starter course without much length. Look forward to returning sometime to see if I can locate the other hole starts.

Dover Park DG 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 26, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Short, fun little course to go play. Short holes allow for ace runs on almost every hole. One tee location and one pin location on each hole with natural teepads (except for a concrete pad on 2). There is a soccer field that runs adjacent to the course to allow practicing your drives after or before you play. There is also a practice hole just next to the hole 1 teepad. Very good place to introduce someone to the game of disc golf (this is where I am teaching my girlfriend to play). A perfect place for a quick game of disc golf for Dover locals.

Cons:

Due to the lack of signs saying where the next tee is I found myself walking around amlisley looking for the next tee on a couple of the holes. The longest hole is a just over 300ft. The course does have some dangers where you will find yourself shooting close to the park office, a pavillion, and the road (just make sure to look before you throw).

Other Thoughts:

Overall, a nice, quaint little course. Great for introducing someone to the great sport of disc golf and also fine tuning your approach and putting game. The park also offers not just disc golf. Some other activities include; tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer field, baseball field, playground, picnic areas with pavilions, and more! A great place to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

nice local 9 holer 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice baskets without a lot of traffic. Several ace runs made me want to play over and over, it doesn't have to be hard to have some good qualities. Course tries to add variety with in 9 holes and lots of trees force you to work on accuracy.

Cons:

Several shots come close to parking areas, pavilions, cars, as well as other tees and fairways.
Pretty short course, I only pulled out the driver once.
9 alternate tees were difficult to find, I just played the traditional 9 over and over.
Hole 3 tee was difficult to find and had no fairway at all to the basket, just a tommy through the trees, but it is short.

Other Thoughts:

For an Eagle Scout project this course's only flaw is the multiple safety issues, but when you compare it against the other DE courses it falls way short. I played this course when I had to drive some football players to the University. It was a lot of fun, but I would not have made the drive just for this course. If you are in the area check it out, but it is not worth a road trip like Iron Hill, Carousel, Brandywine and the other high caliber DE courses.

Good if you're local 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 4, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A nice little 9 hole, good for practicing your approach and putting. 6 of the 9 holes go through the trees, a couple demanding real good accuracy to make par on the short holes. Baskets are new. 2 holes, 7 and 8 are more open and have a little distance to them. Park is lit at night and works very well for a bit a glow golf.

Cons:

A couple tees where hard to find, and pin placement could use some work. On 2 the fairway goes straight ahead then hard left, and there's a pavilion directly in front of you. A couple other pins are right next to where people park their cars. Speaking of cars, a number of people in the park just sit in their parked cars and watch, it was a bit creepy.

Other Thoughts:

Its a nice little course and was put in as an Eagle Scout project (cool) with most of the holes being sponsored by a local business. I always like seeing community and Disc Golf working together.
