Cuter Than a Lynx 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is the shorter, (slightly) tighter 18-hole course at D.R. Disc Golf. With an average hole length of only 266' you'll use mostly putters and mid-ranges, but the wooded nature of every hole keeps the challenge intact.

Hole lengths are distributed from 145' out to 533', with only 6 holes exceeding 300'. All holes are wooded and there is a good variety of fairway shapes. While there are a couple of dead-straight holes most require line shaping to match either a sweeping turn, or more often, a dogleg.

The two par-5 holes (5 & 13) have tight, twisty fairways that will test your ability to stay in the clear. Putters and mid-ranges are still your friends, in spite of 500-ish foot lengths.

A huge amount of work has gone into creating and maintaining the fairways. They are reasonable width and shape, and are covered with the chipped wood of cut and fallen trees. It is a pleasant surface to walk and play over, thought be aware of stumps and roots hidden just below the surface.

Raised wooden tee platforms are in excellent shape with adequate size and good texture. There are a couple of concrete pads here and there as well. If you use a galloping run-up you will find both wooded and concrete tees too small but I liked them fine. Picnic tables, ash trays and trash cans at every holes, and a couple of porta-potties are strategically located near hole intersections.

Mach-2 baskets are in good shape and catch reasonably well.

Cons:

This is a fairly short course, and one that is comfortable to play. That being said, it is not particularly challenging.

Like the Lynx course, the only signs at the tees are large, bright hole numbers. You'll need to refer to the provided scorecard to par and distance information. This scorecard has no map, but you can see most of the baskets from the tee. Where a walk up the fairway is required to spot the basket it is generally not too long.

A few holes (15 and 16 come to mind) have recently lost some of their big guardian trees in the fairways. This was a result of winter storms this past year and the huge, freshly cut stumps are obvious. These holes have gotten significantly easier and might warrant a relocation of the basket or tee pad.

This course lacks significant elevation or water.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nicely designed and maintained DG complex. There is adequate parking, a small but decent pro shop, plenty of porta potties, tables, trash cans, etc. and friendly staff.

Pros:

Well maintained
Nice variety of left and rights with some elevation
Two 18 hole courses and a 9 hole on premises
Staffed clubhouse with discs to rent or buy

Cons:

No map on scorecard

Other Thoughts:

It's the perfect course to play with the family because of several shorter holes and ease of finding disc, but still a few longer holes and technical
