True gem in a small town 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 13, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course fully accomplishes what I believe it was meant to do: provide a fun and inviting disc golf course to a small community. I would rate it higher if it provided more difficulty, but I was pleasantly surprised with how fun this course was.

PROS:
-There's something for everyone on this course. New or casual players can expect to get some birdie looks. Veteran players can expect to run aces or try to birdie all 9.
-Each hole has two basket locations, which is good for variation. It seems like they're randomly placed between the A and the B spot, so the course could be different whenever you play it.
-A handful of these holes (2,3,7 and 8) show real thought was put into this course, placing baskets specifically to force players to throw specific shots.
-Good use of creek as a water hazard. It's there and makes you think/worry on hole 2, but for a course designed more so for casual play, the baskets are far enough back to give the player space to land.
-Most holes allow a player to throw sidearm or backhand, especially if your goal is to par.
-Bathrooms, always a plus
-Decent amount of parking
-A memorable hole (8). When you want to unload your bad to try and get a shot right, this raises the bar for me.

Cons:

-Not a very challenging course
-There's a lot of other stuff in the park. The course stays out of the way for the most part, but holes 7,8, and 9 play around a football stadium. It's possible they prevent play during games.
-Tee signs are good but direction is just okay. You'll spend a little time looking for a few tees if you don't know where you're going (read directions below).

Other Thoughts:

When you consider where this course is, I think it earns an A. I'm not sure I would tell anyone to drive out of there way to it, but if you're nearby, you can play this course with one disc.

Hole breakdown: (based off basket positions I played)
1- Simple, straight shot with a few smaller trees in the way. There are opportunities to get creative here with forehand or backhand hyzers if that's a more comfortable shot. Creek is long, but not really in play.
----> from here you want to cross the bridge right of the basket. There was a sign left near the creek that made me think I needed to go that way. Cross the bridge on the right and hole 2 is on the other side on your right.
2- Right hand forehand or left hand backhand hyzer shot. Basket is pretty close to the river. Once I got up to the basket, I realized I had MORE room behind it than I thought from the tee.
3. This is a straighter shot with a lot of trees in the way, but it's not a tunnel. There's room for creativity here, but if you want to birdie (and you play OB) the basket is pinched up between the sidewalk and a fence. GREAT placement in my opinion. The sidewalk makes it really hard to stick a turnover into the green safely. The basket was in the longer position when I played it, probably closer to 280 feet than the 212 listed on this page.
4. Simple hole. Basically nothing in the way. Attack it anyway you like.
5. Plays well for a right hand backhand hyzer or left hand forehand. Basket is tucked away in between some trees left of the teepad. There's not much to hit on your way up to the basket.
------> Cross the bridge that's in front of you. Tee 6 should be on your left.
6. Another very simple, straight hole. A few trees in your way.
------> From hole 6's basket, walk towards the road/parking lot. Hole 7 plays along the entryway of the park, north towards the north end of the football field.
7. Creative placement in my opinion. This is an uphill shot that requires a "low" line drive. You need to place your disc under some hanging branches but higher than the hill. This shot is mostly straight, but the alt. pin is far right of the tee pad. You almost have to early/late release the disc in order to get it that far over.
8. This was my favorite shot on the course. It plays around the 350 listed on this page. It's a straight shot for about 100 feet, than it slopes downhill. Both basket positions are tucked away in a patch of trees that have thick, high branches. From the tee, you need to shape the angle of your shot correctly to get over the hill but end under the branches. One basket position is straight. The other requires fading out to the left.
9. Mostly straight shot playing back towards the main park. The football field scoreboard is a Mando, so you need to play left of it. The mando takes the right hand hyzer backhand out of play.

Ace Run Bonanza 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

- New Baskets

- Great Signage on Every Hole

- Park was Well Maintained

- A Few Different Shot Types Required

Cons:

- Only Nine Holes

- Park Seems Small, Caution During Peak Hours

- No Real Need to Ever Use a Driver

Other Thoughts:

Quite a fun little park nestled in Auburn. Nearly every hole is an Ace Run opportunity even for newer players. The park was very clean and well maintained. We went in the early morning and it was mostly empty with a few families showing up before we left. Great signage with hole maps and arrows or signs pointing the way to the next tee made navigating the course a pleasant and easy experience.
