Edgewood Park is located in the southern part of Madrid, IA. (Pronounced "Mad"-"Rid" in these parts.) A lovely park with old growth trees and many park activities. Two baseball areas, tennis courts, two basketball courts, a playground and a few shelters take up a fair amount of the park landscape. Some of these come into play. #2 shoots along the left field fence of one field, several holes play over the park road (although #5 basket is in the middle of a circle drive giving it an "island" feel.) #10, #11 and #12 play around the large baseball field, and #13 and #14 play around (over) tennis and basketball courts. Most of these are minor inconveniences, and honestly, I have seen few other people in the park the times I have played, so a slip onto the field to grab a disc doesn't cause any issues. Upgraded from 12 to 15 holes with new baskets and concrete tee pads (Summer 2021). New signage in early 2022 bumped the rating for me. The signs are informative and include names for each hole. While this can seem gimmicky to some, I enjoyed them here (e.g. Hole #3 named "The Old One" as it is the old #1 hole). Check out the additional sign on Hole #10 with a fun way to warn of many OB and hazards on the next 4 holes. The course is an easy drive from the Des Moines area and there is a great bike trail (High Trestle Trail) going through town only a few blocks north of here. What holds it back is the minor hazards and the #12/#13 shared tee. Definitely an above average city park course, a nice diversion, only a short drive away. I will play again.

This course is more of a fun course to play that is in a small town. The course does have a few good holes on it. The tournament layout is definitely a fun one.

The fact that parts of the course weave around and through parts of a ball diamond and playground, means that it is prone to have lots of disruptions or make it unplayable at times.

This is a fun course to play once or twice a year and that is about it.
