nice start for a fun rec course

Pros:
-good layout that utilizes the terrain well, taking advantage of trees and elevation
-new concrete tees
-requires shot shaping to score on many holes
-has a variety of hole lengths, starting off shorter and eventually stretching out a bit longer on the back 9
-navigation is mostly intuitive except the long walk from 9 to 10
-plenty of parking right next to holes 1 and 18
-bathrooms and pavilions on site

Cons:
-uses the old Mach 2's from Will Rogers Park which are serviceable but far past their prime
-no signage, use the uDisc map to get an idea
-some areas have a crazy amount of burrs in the grass
-long walk from hole 9 to hole 10 is also made more confusing by a random basket further out past hole 9's basket. i guess it's an alternate long pin for hole 9 but it made me question my navigation

Other Thoughts:
Eldon Lyon Park is a fun red to white level layout on a pretty decent piece of land. The course starts off with a number of shorter holes with multiple lines through scattered trees with low ceilings. Holes 6-8 take advantage of a 40' hill. Then the back 9 transitions to some longer, mostly open holes.
It is a little surreal playing a brand new course with freshly poured concrete tees and decades old Mach 2 baskets. They catch well enough but definitely show their age. There is no signage yet but the navigation is pretty simple once you get started, save the longish walk from hole 9 to hole 10.
Hole 11 has a big dogleg left hugging the park road. I wasn't sure without a tee sign but I imagine there will be a mando preventing you from throwing across the road straight at the basket. After four wide open holes the back 9 ends with a few nicer shots. Hole 16 has a slightly elevated tee area playing across a field but widely framed by two mature trees. Then hole 17 is a fun ace run into a small, picturesque patch of trees.
I think this course will end up being a popular choice for locals, especially if the amenities are eventually upgraded. There are enough scoreable holes to keep rec level players interested, fun elevation in play, and some longer holes to practice pushing a driver a bit further out. It's somewhere between Will Rogers and Dolese in difficulty. A must-play for locals and a less crowded option for travelers on a day with nice weather.
