At the back of the Evans Sports Park fields, just beyond the gravel piles and parking area, you'll find a reasonable nine hole disc golf course marked by basic tee signs and DGA baskets. The signs have hole layout, distances, and even next tee arrows, though the grasses are cut in such a way as to clearly define fairways and paths between holes. In the winter, the rough is cut to shoe top height, but obviously consists of prairie grasses that could really swallow up errant shots in the middle of the summer (so watch your discs).

The course has good Intermediate distances (210 to 474 feet) and the trees that were planted on installation are beginning to grow in so that you can see how they will soon force some line shaping. Right now (especially in the winter), the openness of the course means you can learn a little about how wind affects disc flight. Two of the holes actually give you a chance to practice control: hole 6 can be played as a mando between two pines about a third of the way along the fairway, and then curving around the deciduous tree in the center, 2/3rds of the way there. Hole 8 tees off between the telephone poles and wires.

In all, Evans Park DGC is a decent, quick nine that can be satisfying for casual to intermediate level players.

The lack of elevation (only the ninth hole places its basket on an artificial rise, making for a challenging green if it is windy) and trees (just growing in), tend to keep the course a little bland. It will not challenge advanced or open players, even when the trees grow in. The crushed asphalt path bordering holes 1 through 4 can be used as an OB line, but otherwise makes no change in the challenge here. Natural tee areas somewhere in the vicinity of the tee signs are OK, but would be better marked in some way to be more specific. There are no benches or trash cans, so carry in, carry out.

My overall impression of Evans course was that it's OK, and I wouldn't complain at all if it were the only course near me, but only real course baggers like me are going to stop in from out of town. If you -are- like me, I drew up a map for ya!

Reviewer Background as of this writing: age 54 w/ 4 yrs experience, rated 900+/-, played 245+ courses in 23 states, 80% w/in 3hr drive of Cincinnati. Thrown with folks rated 600's to 1000's, ages 9 to 85 in events and leagues at all tiers. Seldom drive beyond 300-330, but have a solid up-shot and putting game. I haven't designed any courses, but try to lend a hand (with my severely desk-job limited skill set) when I can.

- A good, quick 9 hole that's attached to a multi-function park
- Good for working on the short game with a few long drives as well
- Lots of space to practice throws before and after a round
- Offers various shot opportunities and will be even better since the trees are growing up!
- Porta potties on site

- Absolutely no sign to indicate that there is a disc course at this park. It would be nice to get people interested, since this is in the very back corner of the park.
- They let the rough get severely overgrown before cutting it, which is a problem especially on hole 2 which is over 400' with a fairway that's about 15' wide. Also grip-locking it on this hole will result in a trip to the corn field.
- No trash cans so people litter
- The park has recently undergone a lot of maintenance which resulted in a gigantic pile of rubble in parking lot. Also they are installing a walking path all the way around the course and it runs directly behind the basket on hole 1, which can be potentially dangerous

It is nice to be able to throw discs in the field at the park and then play 9 holes of disc golf. It's a good practice environment. This course offers decent challenges for experience players and is friendly enough for beginners. The last pin is right near the entrance so you have a nice little practice pin to warm up before you play. Evans Park is a decent place to play if you are out in the country and need a DG fix. The only real problem is the overgrowth, which tends to be a motif here. We once saw a guy with a machete looking for his disc. No kidding.

New baskets & signs. Newly planted trees. Good use of an empty field. Rough is down now. Interesting inclusion of powerline poles.

Flat. All straight shots. Very skinny fairways. No benches or trash cans. open and windy.
