Quick & Fun During a Roadtrip 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 23, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well thought out course with logical mandos, good flow from hole to hole, fantastic use of elevation and OB areas, maximizes the use of the mature trees, and has a decent variety of shots for a 9-hole course.

There's not much length here, but the course makes solid use of the available area in this little park. The variety is nice with straight shots, choose your line lefty/right holes, a little bit of threading through mature trees, and adjusting for uphill and downhill shots. The rubber teepads are in good shape and the signage is excellent (though #8's sign was down when I played).

It plays quick (less than 30 minutes if you're intentional about it). I played it twice through in less than an hour when there was nobody else in the park.

There's a couple of pavilions in the park and a nice little playground if you have the kids with you.

Cons:

Length isn't a factor on many holes. Intermediate or better players will be throwing 4-6 birds on this layout. The mandos and OB roads/fences keep you honest with some forced lines, but they aren't THAT forced and still somewhat forgiving.

There's the potential to throw into two private yards (holes 1, 2, and 9) and onto a ballfield (8). You come close to some picnic areas/pavilions on two holes (5 and 8) and you throw over the small one-lane road through the park on 2 holes and parallel to the road on 4 others.

The valley/ditches that cross the course can fill with leaves in the fall making them deceptively deep. Just watch your step!

I'm not a fan of the Monkey Trap baskets, since I seem to get more splashouts/bounceouts on them, but they're still a solid basket.

Other Thoughts:

The entry into the park isn't that odd. Follow the "Enter" arrow from the ball gold parking lot off the road and you're soon driving down the road the winds through the course. It loops around the park and deposits you at a parking lot next to the course sign and #1's tee.

A small hidden gem just off of I-44. Made for a fun little pit stop on a road trip. The course had a surprising variety of holes, sneaky elevation, and was fun to play. It maximized the available land and would be a great course for pitch/putt rounds or one-disc challenges.

Ewing Park, With Its Unimpressive Entrance, Proved To Be An Excellent Little Beginner/Recreation Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 13, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

As you turn into what you think is Ewing Park, you'll find a large, white unimpressive building, like a storage unit. Drive in past this structure and you arrive at the actual park. The disc golf course starts in this little wooded, picnic area, plays back to the fence line and then doubles back into the picnic area once more. There is a nice large course sign complete with map. The baskets are the popular choice in these parts, Monkey Trap baskets, with these particular ones being a lovely shade of yellow.

The course is beginner short with four holes under 200' and only # 8 playing over 300'. I think I might nominate # 9 as my favorite hole here. It's 289' and plays over a pretty little valley. # 4 also plays over this same valley. There are fun little Ace runs as well as few other holes which present more challenges.

If there were ever any park users here, a couple of holes might present a safety issue. # 4 with its double Mando, plays over the park road and past the restrooms. 6 & 7 both play over park roads.

Cons:

Rec/beginner lengths and challenge.

There are a couple of holes where a really, poor errant throw could end up over the fence.

Kind of confusing, when you first turn off the highway and drive into this parking lot and wonder where the actual park is?

Other Thoughts:

This is a wonderful little course for Grandparents Day, rank beginners, one-disc wonders and the occasional red-headed step child. Not recommended for advanced players, better players or anyone taking themselves or their game too seriously. For a washed up old rec player like me, I love this course like a back-alley hooker loves her crack!

Fun quick course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 13, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun putter course with a couple longer shots. Easy flow hole to hole. Watch for mandos which help make for a bit more of a challenge.

Cons:

None really. Maps are not perfect match to the trees.

Other Thoughts:

More cities should have course like this for beginners. Drive past the ball golf course parking lot and keep driving till you see a big dgc rules board and map.

Great small course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Solid small course. High quality baskets, tee pads, and signage. Well laid out and great flow for the size of the park. Park is clean and well kept with playing areas for children. Good shade covering around 80% of playing surface. Great for beginners and for experienced players working on short game.

Cons:

Short course with only 2 holes near 300'.

Other Thoughts:

Nice course located in the middle of Joplin and Springfield right off the interstate. Great location right behind golf course so you can use the park facilities or the club house for refreshments and restrooms. Very clean and well kept in a nice neighborhood. Perfect to take the kids with and let them play while you get in a few holes yourself.
