Pros:
The ambience is wonderful. A sprawling church campus tucked in next to a farm. It was an uncharacteristically warm November day when I arrived to the course. A long asphalt driveway leads you onto the church property, passing a few baskets as you pull around the back of the church to hole 1. A family of deer ran by and the amtrack train from Chicago passed in the distance. Holes 1,2,3,4,5 play across an open field that includes elevation change and a retention pond. Tree lines provide some shot shaping on these holes but all play open. There is enough variety to be interesting. Overall these holes are fun and do a great job highlighting the natural features of the property.Maintainence on this course is impeccable including nicely mowed grass, no trash, and commercial grade baskets.
Cons:
Hole 6 is a transitional hole that moves the player from the large green space to the tight entry drive. The design of holes 6,7,8,9 feel like a backyard layout. Hole 6 uses a garage as the obstacle instead of the natural beauty of the site. The fairways of holes 7 and 8 crisscross the entry driveway, a design mistake detracts from the beauty and purity of the course. Hole 8 plays around squarely planted trees with questionable fairness. Hole 9 breaks another design rule by needlessly crossing hole 7\'s fairway. Listed as a par 6, the \'signature hole\' seems gimmicky winding around the the church entrance leading to a basket about 50\' into the wooded area.Hole 1 is the the only hole with a tee marker, and even that is only a Udisc sign in the corner of the parking lot. The remainder of holes have no tee marker, players are expected to throw from the previous holes\' basket.
Other Thoughts:
Fun course in a nice setting. I will certainly be back for another round. This course needs tee signs to compliment the high quality baskets. If the last 4 holes were simplified, the layout would flow better and improve the overall course experience.
