Disc Golf In The Backyard Of James A. Garfield! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Faith Lutheran Church is the direct neighbor of the James A. Garfield historic site. This is where the 20th U.S. President lived after purchasing the home almost a century before disc golf was even invented.

+ The property itself is just a few acres deep, but provides a nice, relaxing backdrop to a pitch-and-put course.

+ There are tee signs and concrete tee pads for every hole. The baskets were new and caught great, though I'm not sure what model they were. The course is kept up nice!

+ Great place to bring the family for a little bit of fun. I came up for a couple of solo rounds, with the average time per round being 10 minutes.

Cons:

- This course is hilariously short, with the average hole length being 118 ft. The shortest hole is #5, coming in at 46 ft. The longest is #3 at a whopping 228 ft. Most holes are under 100 ft.

- It's nice to have tee signs on every hole, but the pars are very off. All of the wooded holes are par 5, even the 46 foot hole mentioned earlier.

- Hole #1 could be a cool shot between the trees, but low-hanging branches blocked the basket.

- Hole #2 plays across the entry road to an "island" green surrounded by the parking lot. Not ideal if there are more than a few cars present.

Other Thoughts:

I can say with confidence this will be the only time I'll record an ace on a par 5! Can't wait to tell that story to my grandkids.

All jokes aside, everyone involved did a great job. Kudos to Faith Lutheran for supporting the effort to expand the game.

If you want a place to bring the kids or practice putting, this will be the place. Otherwise, unless you're a course bagger like myself, you can skip this one and still sleep well at night.

A tiny surprise 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 14, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Listen, you're not as good at putting as you think you are. I'm certainly not. Playing this course today made me think about the necessity of focus and precision in my play. The longest hole was around 220 feet and they were as short as 43 feet.
In the group I was playing with there were birdies and there were double bogies. This course can really get away from you! You're sure to learn something, though.

Cons:

Very, very short holes.

Other Thoughts:

This would be a great place to stop if you're going between Sims, Osborne and Painesville.

It probably takes 30 minutes to play through and you'll be in a much better headspace to putt.

P.S. It was really nice of these people to put this course here :)
