FCC - thanks for a nice beginner course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 5, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Short, 9 hole course laid out in the front of this church property. Course map at the start, a short walk from the parking lot, back toward the main road.
Rubber tee mats on each hole, they are a little short, but with the length of these holes, its not a big issue.
The DD Veteran baskets are in great shape and easy to spot throughout the course, except #5, that one is hidden behind some thick undergrowth. There are two hole pictures at each tee, showing two different basket positions. I was able to spot a few of those extra positions.
Good use of this mostly unused portion of the property, including the thinned out pine trees at the front, that provide some interesting lines.
One of the few courses in this part of Jacksonville and good for church outings and beginners.

Cons:

A couple of holes are a little questionable for this type of course, #3 is an almost complete water carry, listed at 200', to a basket perched on the downslope to the pond. A tough throw for most beginners who probably don't have a lot of discs to lose.
#9 plays at 315', along the drive into the church, that narrows between that and the parking lot to just 40' wide, with the basket guarded by several wide branched trees.
It would take a well placed shot, probably flying over the drive or parking lot to get close for a birdie look on this Par 3. Either shortening this hole, or making it a Par 4 would reduce the possibility of cars getting hit.
There are some outdoor activities, and a storage building, between several of the holes. Hopefully "Safety First" will be stressed upon the players.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a good beginner friendly course. A great course to take the kids or beginners to hone their skills with very little chance of losing a disc (except for #3).
Holes 1,2 and 4 are mostly in the open, then #5 is the most wooded, the basket was hidden on the day I was there, it was a left to right turn around the undergrowth!
Then #6,#7 and #8 play down rows of pine trees at the front of the property (kind of reminded me of some NC courses). #6 was straight down rows, then #7 and #8 got interesting, teeing from one row and the basket in the next row over. Got to work on my annie forehand throw to negotiate one of these. Kudos to the course designer who didn't take the easy way out and just make 3 straight holes.
A birdie, or even par, on #9 will be a well earned end to your round here.
Nice job FCC, there could be several types of outdoor activities for your congregation, this installation was pretty well done. There were no "Church Members Only" signs in site, so its a nice addition to the area and the Jacksonville DG scene. Also, the church is not too far off I-95, if you need a break.
