Pretty Nice for a Church Course... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 7, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+ The course redesign solves the issues the course once had with holding water.
+ There is a good variety of shots required. Long and short and wooded and open holes.
+ The course is neither highly technical, nor too easy - a good light to moderate challenge for players.
+ There are now rubber mats for all the tees!
+ There are a number of unique features - driving off a stage, two holes sharing a hanging basket, 4 holes along a creek, 1 blind hyzer shot, 2 challenging short and narrow tunnel shots in the parking lot.
+ The course cleanup and redesign has nearly eliminated the possibility of getting your disc into 'nasty thickets' or 'deep woods' where it was rather unpleasant to retrieve your discs!
+ The course redesign has basically eliminated the likelihood of throwing your disc over the fence towards the interstate.
+ Tee signs are present and have been updated since the redesign!
+ Course flow is good starting in the parking lot, going around the church and coming back to the parking lot.
+ There is a table and chairs on the last hole and there are some picnic tables at a few holes.

Cons:

- There is a short walk on a couple of the holes to the next teepad.
- Hole 9 and 18 aren't always playable due to church being in session.
- the rubber mats are as level as can be expected for rubber mats but stepping into a drive on a few holes can feel a little challenging compared to concrete tees.
- there are 4 holes along the creek with a water hazard but there are metal retrievers in place to help players scoop them out.
- No bathrooms

Other Thoughts:

This course has been redesigned in the last year because of issues with water sitting in one portion of the course. While one of the more challenging holes was lost (perhaps its signature hole), a lot was gained in the redesign as the course is now playable year round. There are 9 total baskets with 17 different tee pads (Hole 9 and 18 are the same - a short straight shot down a narrow green in the middle of the parking lot).

The course does have a mando to the left of a large tree on hole 8.

Also, hole 6 and 15 have different baskets. 6 plays to the short basket right behind the large tree. 15 plays to the longer basket about 50 feet behind it slightly to the right.

Lastly, hole 15 is back to the left (on the stage) from the spot where players come out of the woods.

Overall, a good, fun course that is a nice complement to the other courses in Russellville.

Russellville's Control Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 16, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Good use of terrain
-Small creek, mild hills, some open, some wooded shots
-Even though there are only 9 baskets, tees are placed where you do not feel like your are replaying the course
-Maps and direction markers for easy navigation
-More than adequate parking
-Well maintained

Cons:

-No trash cans anywhere
-Tee for hole 2 difficult to locate for 1st time players (on top of hill by picnic table, behind tree from basket 1)
-Typically short holes. Do not take this to mean easy though.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great course for learning control. It has a balance of left and right curved shots, stays clear of walking paths, roads, and the creek is well bridged. The smallness of the creek reduces your chance of losing a disc. Even though close to the interstate, I have not had anyone(I play with a lot of beginners) send a disc that direction.
It does only have 1 hill, unlike the other courses in the area, and like I mentioned in the cons, the holes are typically short. I imagine holes 7,8, and 9 can get boggy when wet, but I have not had trouble on the clear or drizzling days that I have played. Several of the tees have rubber mats to reduce issues with puddles.

Avoid playing on Sunday mornings and evenings, as the course is set up on church grounds.

*Side note: on the map 8 and 17 appear straightish. There is actually a fair right curve to hit the basket. 17 is just a longer version of 8.
*I did not help set up this course, do not know the sponsors, and live out of this town.
