Decent pitch-and-putt in apparently odorless park

Pros:

Fish Hatchery Park is located in Hastings, MI. The park's main attribute is a couple of water features, which make for popular fishing spots. The park has also recently added a 9-hole disc golf course that plays clockwise around the edges of the property.

The course does a good job of using the park's water hazards. Hole 3 is a nice throw with a creek off to the right and a couple of trees to work around. Then you cross a little footbridge to get to #4 where the creek is then on your left. A couple of ponds are in play elsewhere on the course. The fairways are pretty open overall, but the designers did a good job of using the scattered trees available. Thick brush around the edges of the park can also come into play with errant throws on a couple of the holes.

The baskets are new Chainstars that are correctly numbered.

I really appreciated the obvious attention to safety by the designers. They did a great job of avoiding the most likely multi-use areas (playgrounds, pavilions, restrooms, etc.).

Cons:

The teepads are just natural with white painted kick plates. I didn't find the kick plates for holes 7-9, but the first 6 were there. There aren't any tee signs, and the park only has trash cans and benches near the parking lot/start of the course.

The layout is mostly pretty intuitive, but you'll need UDisc to be sure of navigation/tee locations as there aren't any directional markers on the course.

The distances here are short and the level of challenge is minimal. Just recreational level for sure. There isn't much elevation change either, and the creek may be pretty dry in the summer months.

Extras like kiosk, practice basket, etc. are missing.

Holes 6 and 7 are still pretty close to the outfield of the baseball diamond.

Other Thoughts:

The park has signage indicating that pets are not allowed. Alcohol is also a no-no.

Given the name of the park, I was worried about having to hold my nose while I walked the fairways. But I did not smell any trace of fish hatching during my mid-April round (I may be showing my lack of fish-related knowledge here though).

This is an easy course and nothing to write home about, but I enjoyed it. It was semi-interesting and I really appreciated the clear attention to potential safety hazards. If you are in the Hastings area and looking for a nice warm-up or cooldown before/after Hammond Hill, this park may be worth a quick play.
