Diggin' into the Dillo

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 14, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Flying Armadillo is an excellent disc golf destination. Awesome pro shop, a food truck with good eats, and plenty of space to cool off and relax in between rounds. Staff and pets were all super cool.

The Big Course is a challenging 18 hole layout with multiple tees. It features some elevation change and fairly heavily wooded lines. Tee signs are good and the layout is not hard to follow. Plenty of benches. There are several really fun holes. I liked 1, 3, 14 and 15 a lot, but the quality is consistently good throughout. There's a good mix ranging from fairly open holes that still offer some resistance to heavily wooded, technical lines. It isn't epic length, but there are 3 par 4 holes to up the distance a couple of notches.

Cons:

A few rocky fairways that will chew up the plastic a bit. Some thick trees that can catch plastic, and a cactus or two to watch out for. Some of the tees are a bit rugged, but usable.

Other Thoughts:

This place is awesome, so check it out if you're in the area. We make a day trip on our visit to Austin and enjoyed it thoroughly. I wouldn't mind hanging out and getting in a couple more rounds on each course. Worth the price of admission, no doubt.

Got a burger and some shrimp tacos at the food truck, very tasty. Also picked up a cool custom stamped putter from the pro shop.

Pros:

- Simply beautiful course that makes excellent use out of the land
- Pro shop on the course sells cold drinks and snacks
- Porta potty access in the parking lot
- Baskets are equipped with lights for night golf
- Signs for each tee attached to trees near all the baskets
- Tee signs at each tee
- Very clear course design, you know exactly where you have to throw
- Multiple tees for different skill levels
-- Blue tees for pro-level players
-- White tees for amateur level players
-- Red tees for recreation players

Cons:

- Missing red teepads/indicators for some holes
-- All of the blue tees are easily visible, but at least 2 holes are straight up missing the red and white teepads
- Need to watch your step for dog poop around the main area and surrounding holes
- Not all teepads were concrete

Other Thoughts:

You might encounter dogs that both live at and around the course. They were all friendly and followed our group for a few holes. If you're allergic, definitely take or bring allergy medicine just in case.

The area is very rocky, with many rocks and tree roots sticking out of the ground. Be sure to watch your step as you navigate the course!
