Pros:

Foote is an interesting course. When you pull in you see an open soccer field and a few baskets in the distance and your mind right away goes to "OK here we go with another one of these crappy open courses" but luckily that is not the case here. The course plays around the edges of the park utilizing trees, a slough (yes there are water hazards) and lots of OB including the parking lot. The designers were even able to get some longer par 3 and a par 4 hole into this space without having lots of overlap, truly a design feat in and of itself.

The city or whatever entity who is foot(e)ing the bill has gone all out. The first hole's tee area has a kiosk of sorts, lots of advertising, telling you where to buy and rent discs, etc. it looks like a private course who is really involved but this is in a city. The tee pads are all very long and concrete, the baskets are new and in fantastic condition. Someone cares about this place, truly loves it and takes care of it, great to see.

Navigation is easy, no maps or phone apps required.

Cons:

Even though the designers have done an excellent job and the city is behind them this piece of land is not ideal. It does play away from the open fields but a larger piece of land that doesn't share an area with other park users would be much better. We played this early in the morning during a course bagging trip and no one was here but if soccer is going on this course is unplayable. 2 holes throw over the parking lot and 1 plays around it in a horseshoe shape. With any kind of presence of cars these holes become unplayable. Also a few baskets are close to the road and the bathrooms, volleyball areas that again would be unplayable if anyone was around.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a very pleasant surprise from what it looks like from the road and parking lot. This is a really well done and fun 9 hole course if you can play it during off hours. Worth the stop if you're in Boise or Nampa.

Foote Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Overall: Foote park's 9 holes utilize the existing terrain well while not encroaching on the soccer or baseball fields (although, I would not play this course when other sports are being played). Various length holes are designed for beginner to intermediate players and have various hazards (water 2 and 3) that encourage various shot types (I'm not going to tell you what shot types cause that would ruin the fun). Par counts are meant for newer players (mix of 3's, 4's, and one 5). The trees when mature will make this course more difficult to play (Thank you captain obvious).

1- Number 1 tee is located on the north-west corner of the parking lot. It has a map and score-card in a small box (no pencils), look for a concrete tee and metal arch that reads optimist disc golf park.
2- Backhand throwers be aware of the creek.
3- The #3 hole throws over a creek, which can be intimidating to new players.
4- A work in progress par 5 (please note construction). This hole is reachable in less for bigger arm throwers.
5- Has a fun approach shot, when kid's don't have their soccer gear in the way.
6- Challenging and narrow approach.
7- This is an island hole that is relatively short. OB exists directly behind the hole (electrical looking stuff that's walled off), left (road), right (parking lot). T thought it was fun.
8- It was fun to huck the disc over the parking lot, but I could see this shot taking out a few car windows.
9-Dogleg left over the parking lot. Sheds and trees may block shots.

Cons:

Overall: Saftey is my main concern about this course (when it is being utilized by other sports). Almost all tees are close to the previous basket. This course would not be good to play when soccer or baseball is being played. It is not meant to be a crowded course.

1-Road to the left of the tee. A wild Hyzer could catch the elusive care unaware.
2-
3- Play it safe or go for it and end up in the creek (it's about 3 feet deep). Don't ask how I know.
4-
5-
6- #6 throws over the fairway of #5 and towards a concession stand for the soccer park.
7- Throw's over the parking lot.
8- Throw's over the parking lot (not ob according to rules).
9-#9 can be shortcutted if you have the range over the parking lot.

Other Thoughts:

Overall: Safety is a concern, especially when the park is busy (hence the 2.5 rating). Otherwise, it has a 3.0. The course is nice, well maintained, despite some construction on hole 4. It has new Veteran baskets with flags on top. Playing is fun, with a variety of shots that are not too punishing for mistakes expect (2 & 3). It's a great place to try new shot types. Discs are not easily lost unless you throw them into the creek on 2 & 3 or it goes into a storm drain.

What to improve (suggestions): 1. A large map with tee's and pin locations would be nice (that way you don't have to have paper scorecards). 2. Making sure that the course doesn't have any crossing links (#5 and #6 (I much prefer the #6 tee)). 3. Moving tee's away from holes (100 feet would be great). 4. Arrows pointing to the next tee.

Things I have to think about. 1. ??? Moving #7 and especially #8 away from the parking lots (honestly, I like the holes where they are, as they add a nice change of pace for shots).

P.S. Whoever made this course did a really nice job, with what the constraints they were given! Thank you so much! My wife and I appreciate this course so much!
