If you are following my reviews, you know that I love a parkland course, and this is a lovely parkland course. It is not fancy, but it's very well-maintained. The course sits on a large "island" park surrounded by houses on all 4 sides. There are 9 baskets with the B9 tee pads longer or in a different direction from the F9 tee pads. There is a nice variety to be such a relatively small course.

The large green space that the course sits in is very slightly sloped (hole 1/10 at the bottom). This means you have roughly as many uphill shots as downhill ones, and it's nice that the latter come last. Forest Hills is not as flat of a course as it looks in pictures and as it appears in-person on first sight.

I like that hole 1/10 through 3/12 involve sizeable trees to get around or through; that nos. 4/13 are wide open but distinctly uphill with a large square of pavement to get over (OB? If so, plays like a pond); and then you go back into a parkland setting. There's a grove of trees you must get through/into for nos. 5/14; similar but distinctly out of the grove for nos. 6/15; around or away from the tennis courts for nos. 7/16; along the street edge again into another grove for nos. 8/17; similar for nos. 9/18.

That may sound redundant and possibly it is for a precision and long thrower. For those of us who throw shorter, we will appreciate the varied placement of the tee-to-basket and the possible choices of flight lines.

The park also has a playground and is itself much bigger than it looks on first sight. It is essentially green space in the middle of a residential area, not uncommon in the first-ring Victorian suburbs of major East Coast cities.

While there is a steady stream of people playing the course, it is not crowded. So you don't have to worry about being run over or rushed.

Because it is not crowded, you might feel a little uneasy here. Despite being a green space between four streets of houses, it feels rather isolated. The neighborhood is definitely a mixed bag. Some very decent-looking people and some not-so decent-looking people (equally) walking through.

There are no hole signs above grade to help you see where to go next, just these circular markers on the ground for the natural tees. These are not always easy to find. Some are missing. Some covered in dirt. You need your UDisc app running to help you pinpoint the tee of each hole (at least the first time you play). UPDATE: There are now concrete pads for each tee. Though mostly on the short side, they are very much welcomed, even, newish. While you still need UDisc to locate tees in relationship to one another, you can see them now very quickly.

Hole no. 14's tee is on a tiny island, and the throw is over one of the bordering streets, back into the park. This can be very dangerous. There's an enormous hedge on the island that further blinds your view of motor traffic coming from your left.

It's a very pleasant parkland course that is not intimidating. I managed to get a birdie on no. 8. Because it is parkland with large gaps between most of the trees, it is very encouraging.

The kind of course you want to play where you don't want to be overly challenged. Would make for a nice cool-down course if you are playing the tougher Triplett or another local course that is harder on the same day.

The Spanish moss in the various species of trees is dreamy, folks. As it is all over greater Savannah and other southeastern US coastal locales.
