There Is Only One Course At Fossvogsvollur! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Disc Golf Course Review shows two course 0.2 miles apart. Fossvogsdalur is the same course only with a different spelling and area. Too bad, I was psyched to play two nines tonight.

All these Iceland courses are starting to feel the same. They each have the exact same tee map. Each has had the exact same size tee pads (patio blocks) and each has had three tees, the Long Blues, the medium Blacks and the short Reds. Three of these courses have been very similar in distance, challenge and design. Fossvogsvollur has some water to play around as the small creek comes into play on 1, 2, 4, 8 and 9. # 2 also has a water carry over a pond of about 200'. I like the fact that this course loops back to the start.

# 1 starts with a 70 m hole with a right curve needed and the small creek present. You need to clear this creek. # 2 is the water carry over the pond throw. # 3 is a 67 m hole with the basket resting atop a small hill. Then # 4 is 100 m with the stream on your right. I wasn't thrilled with # 5. It has a row of trees in front of the pad, which slants uphill. There really isn't a natural throw here, maybe an overhand?

# 6 is basically long, 113 m, straight with some bushes on the right. I did like # 7. It plays 70 m from the Blue tee with the basket visible through a gap in the brush. You can reach the basket by throwing through the gap or over the brush as the basket sits about 10 m past the brush and trees.

# 8 is 86 m from the black tee, straight, with the basket set in the trees ahead. Then # 9 wasn't my favorite either, only because the most direct path to the basket requires a throw right over a walking path. And the path curves here so you might not see a kid on a bike. You could throw a safer shot, a big hyser around the trees, either clearing the creek or laying up short. The basket is just across the small creek. There are some trees along the creek to contend with.

Cons:

Hole # 9 could be a safety concern.

My personal pet peeve, a sloping upward tee pad on # 5.

More ugly graffiti on baskets and on the back of the tee map.

I didn't always find all three tee pads.

# 7 Red sign scraped off. These courses all have the exact same kind of vandalism. And apparently, the same douche with a marker.

Other Thoughts:

I preferred the course I played yesterday (Laugardalur). It had a couple of more interesting holes and none as poor as # 5 or with safety concerns like # 9. Mostly, these Iceland courses seem to be of the cookie cutter mold. It's amazingly how similar they have been. But at least today was one of the nicest summer days Iceland has enjoyed this summer, 60 degrees with mostly sunny skies.
