Solid warm up! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

What a fantastic warm-up and/or beginner and/or family friend course! I really enjoyed my round here.

+ Course equipment is solid. Beautiful DISCatchers, large tees, and tee markers.

+ Park is well maintained. Grass was cut, not much trash on the grounds, garbage cans not over flowing, gardens looking great, etc.

+ Flow is logical. There's never really a question of where to go next. Not too long of walks in between baskets. 9 ends right at the parking lot.

+ Nice elevation changes! Almost every hole has a bit of elevation, which some of them having significant elevation (especially for this area of Wisconsin).

Cons:

- I wish the distances were listed on the tee signs, it's currently just hole #.

- Course is pretty open. Trees are minimal. Pros and advanced players are going to be targeting 2s on every hole. But this is the purpose of this one, so it's gentle con.

Other Thoughts:

All in all, a fun round to start the day or to rebuild your confidence after getting slaughtered by Gray's long positions. A very solid 9er.

LONG TEE Review (Wood Chips) 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 5, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Really enjoy playing this course! It takes the whole Facility up a notch. Instead of a great 18 and jump putt ace 9 hole. You have 27 great holes on site!
Made great use of the trees and hills. Deceiving distances and troublesome greens. Sometimes "parked" from the tee isn't so good.
Really like holes #4 and #9.
#4 is an uphill blind turnover shot. Its short but easily over/under played.
#9 is completely different from the other 8 holes. In fact the long tee has a completely different fairway. Its super tight and a late sharp turn to the right.

Cons:

When they put the cement pads in I will move this up a 0.5 point.
I am bummed that they changed the blind hole #2. Was the one and only tricky shot on the old layout. But the new one is fun too.
#7 - come spring this tee pad will be flooded half the time. Its also a ridiculous stupid line.

Other Thoughts:

#6 would be cool if they moved the tee pad to the left so the hole becomes slightly blind.
#8 could use an Mando Left on the tree to the far right of the fairway.
With the 27 holes on site this course is definitely worth a detour. Give yourself time for a second round for the full 27....you'll want it.

A Step in the Right Direction 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 2, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

2 teepads on each hole. The shorts are good concrete pads with plenty of room. 6' wood posts with the hole # and distance accompany each teepad. The long teepads (still woodchips) are currently marked by small flags and pieces of wood with hole distances written in black marker.

The available elevation was utilized well by the designer, especially on Holes 2--6 and 9.

Navigation is easy and will most likely improve with age.

Good, if not brand new Discatchers.

This course offers a large number of mature trees which add a good challenge, especially from the long tees.

At 490', Hole #3 (long tee) is the signature hole here with the downhill fairway along the sled hill. The line of trees on the right takes away the hyzer route, forcing a straight or anyhyzer drive for RHBH throwers.

Cons:

The woodchip teepads hopefully will be replaced with concrete.

Although this did not affect my rating, "next tee" signs would be a nice addition, especially for the long tees.

Hole #1, #5 and #7 from the short teepads are very easy ace-runs. I guess these are good "confidence booster" holes for beginners,

Other Thoughts:

Echoing others, they've had some problems with vandalism over the last year. Please report any problems.

There is a small, green box close to the parking lot for donations. I hope the Kenosha County Parks Dept continues to maintain and improve this course. Please leave anything, even $1 or spare change if you can.

The new and improved Red Fox is now a very good 9 hole companion to the Grey Fox 18 hole course here at Fox River Park.

The short tees are mostly easy holes that cater to beginners and recreational level players. The long tees offer a good challenge to advanced and open players.

The mosquitoes are brutal here in the summer months. Whether you prefer bug spray or something else, please be prepared.

Improved Red Fox 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 25, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Red Fox recently got a makeover. It used to be a pretty awful 9 holer. It's located right across from hole #1 of the Grey Fox giving this complex 27 holes. This is the easiest of the 9 hole loops and very beginner friendly. The land is mostly open with slight rolling terrain.

The baskets are Innova Discatchers and besides being faded they are in good shape.

Brand new concrete tee pads on the short tees. There are future plans for the long tees to be concrete.

Short tees are marked by posts.

Navigation is very easy.

Cons:

The short tees are somewhat routine and open.

The long tees are not marked by tee posts yet. They are also wood chips and not very playable. I threw from behind when possible.

Other Thoughts:

Fox River Park is a great facility. They've had some problems with vandalism over the last year. Please report any problems.
