I have to throw how far? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fullterton-Garrity Park is a large park in Corsicana that is very well taken care of. The grass is short, there is no litter, there are clean restrooms and a nice walking trail that weaves the entire park.

There is also a disc golf course (duh). It features nine baskets that are in overall good shape. Since the last review here, there appears to be nine extra tee signs that play significantly shorter than the regular nine holes, which definitely alleviates a few of the cons on other people's reviews. All of the tees have a simple tee sign with distances and a map. The tee sign to hole 1 was even there, which seemed to not be there for years prior.

If you are one of those players that loves to throw your discs real far and not worry about obstacles, then you will love this course.

Cons:

Although there are nine shorter tees, the main tees 1-9 and the holes still listed here on DGCR are the super long holes that range no shorter than 345' and a few exceeding 500'. I am all for having longer holes on a course, but you definitely do not need to have 7 out of the 9 holes over 400'.

Because of the long hole length, the course has no hole variety. The park is very sparse of trees, and I feel that the trees that are there are not utilized to their full potential to create more challenging holes. It is hard to pick a favorite hole because they all sort of blend together.

With an amphitheater in the middle of the park, I assume that this park is fairly well used by non disc golfers. With that in mind as well as the long winding walking trail, there is a safety concern that errant discs may hit unsuspecting park goers. I know the disc golf fairways do a lot of crisscrossing with the walking trail. Just remember to watch and give the pedestrians the right of way since they probably have no idea what the heck you are doing.

Other Thoughts:

My expectations were low for this course going into it. It exceeded my low expectations by being even worse than I thought it would be.

The course is too long and too far off of I45 to be a realistic quick play in between Dallas and Houston, and to be honest, just not really worth your time. It sucks that this is what the poor people of Corsicana have to be exposed to as their only outlet to disc golf. My thoughts and prayers are with them.
