Unplayable in summer unmowed conditions 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 12, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Isolated 9-hole course in the middle of nowhere rural KY (if you want to get away from the city). The land has gentle elevation with tall trees as obstacles and room to work discs right or left. The intention here is park style and it really has potential. I think it is nice land for disc golf. But.... (*see cons).

Cons:

The course was almost completely unplayable. One of the worst I have ever seen. It was heavily overgrown on the first 5 holes, dense undergrowth up ankles and knees, no fairways of any kind, it was impossible to find your disc, and on every step I was scared of stepping on a snake. Last 4 holes on other side of the drive are less dense and were the most playable, but the tall wispy grass there was waist high and, with no defined fairways, it was hard to know where to throw.

#1 tee sign was knocked down, there were no scorecards/maps, (print one from DGCR to have any hope of navigating.) On most holes it was difficult to see which direction the basket is from the tee (if you could find the tee. I tried just to walk the course at first, only made it 1 hole! Then I walked it backwards and found 8 of the 9--- never found #2 tee (found the basket), never found #3 basket (looked like a mowed circle area near #4 tee where a basket should be- might be missing?), but nothing else on the course was mowed so I don't know if it was somewhere else. Several baskets had tall thorny vines growing up through them- so it was obvious this course gets no attention.

Parking is iffy, just pull off the narrow gravely road in the grass near the picnic pavilion I guess. There were a couple of trashcans, but they had been knocked over and trash was everywhere. There are restrooms (but after investigation, I would use only if desperate and, even then, the woods are probably still a better option.)

Overall, the park itself just looked abandoned and barely used.

Other Thoughts:

Decent covered picnic area and the water spiget worked. (Drink at your own risk, could be used to cool off though.)

I did see 8 baskets and 8 tees, most next tees are visible from the previous basket, might be ok to play in the winter when all the greenery dies, the only factor that keeps me from giving this course a 0.0 rating.

Basically this course is in the middle of nowhere and is not good at all in its current condition, don't waste your time and gas like I did to get here and it not even be halfway playable.

A good mowing and upkeep of the fairways and some navigational aids and this course could be a 2.0. Looks like some fun downhill shots to work your disc around trees, if only you could play it.
