Intro to Disc Golf & Ace Runs for Baggers 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 18, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Basic DG in a well maintained city park.

• Variety: Reasonable - holes range from open to sparsely wooded, with just enough obstacles to makes you shape some lines. Distances range from 135ft to 350ft (significantly uphill), with a bunch falling in between 180- 280 ft. Not a ton of variety, but enough to have some fun.

• Elevation: Good - Nothing major, but elevation comes into play on most holes, making most play longer/shorter than posted.

• Challenge: Reasonable - Every basket is clearly visible in front of you. Wonderfully suited for novice to rec level players. There's enough here to keep you honest, but experienced players will find it hard to card bogies, because even bad tee shots can be easily saved on your 2nd shot.

• Equipment: Reasonable - Dual, natural tees are OK at this point. Tee signs are laminated paper on metal stakes, each tee having its own. They provide the basic info, but not sure how long they'll last. A couple of cement bricks flush to the ground indicate the front of the tee, with hole # and "Long" or "Short" stencilled on them. New original Chainstars complete the scene.

• Aesthetics: Decent - Plan on a nice walk, out in the open on gently rolling terrain, through a quiet, city park in a residential neighborhood.

• Fun-Factor: Reasonable - Should be a very fun place for beginners, and there's not a lot of opportunity for lost discs. Intermediate players will have to get their fun running aces and parking birdies.

• Routing/Nav: Decent - Entire course is generally laid out in a "U" shape around either side of the park road. Find the 1st tee, and the rest flows reasonably well. #1 starts near the middle of the park. 2 & 3 work down one side of the park, moving toward the entrance. Cross road at the park entrance to #4, and the fairways zig-zag their way back up the other side of the park.
Responsibly designed, so few holes actually throw toward the park road. The few that do, are short enough, with sufficient room behind the basket, to provide a sufficient buffer.

Cons:

Mostly limited by what this course was meant to be. Never meant to be "an every shot in your bag" or destination course. Nothing glaringly wrong.

• Tee signs too close to tee; a few feet away would've been good.

• 3 Long Tee located just a bit to close to the base of a hill, such that your run up starts on a mild (but annoying) downhill incline.

• OB softball field to the right of #9 can come into play if a someone throws a hard RHBH drive that gets flippy.

• Rough -The rough behind the baskets on holes 4, 6, 7, and left on 9 long is thick, thorny and nasty. Shouldn't be a factor unless a shot sails long past the basket. Nonetheless, that's your greatest chance of chance of losing a disc here.

• #9 ends up about 600 ft away from #1, which isn't all that far to walk for a 2nd round from the other set of tees.

Other Thoughts:

Don't take my rating as an indication of something wrong. 2.0 is reasonable, and that's exactly what this course is. More relaxing, than it is exciting. Doesn't do a lot, but it does what it does well. Reasonably well executed, basic disc golf, pure and simple, if not exciting. Hopefully, things don't get so busy that the natural tees become rutted out pits.

Great for beginners, baggers, and those who live in the immediate area. If there's any wind blowing, it'll factor into your round.
