With lightly wooded terrain and five of nine holes under 200 feet, the course on the grounds of Glencliff Elementary School is a good example of an ideal design for youngsters learning the sport.

The layout has just enough trees to provide a challenge and starts by offering its two shortest holes with Holes #2 and #3. Later in the course, there's a little more elevation, length and challenge while keeping the course fairly reasonable for elementary-aged users.

The course is on a lovely grassy area with some gentle elevation changes on every hole. The beauty is above average for this setting. Hole #5 is slightly elevated on a large stump and had some awesome-looking fungi growing on it too.

The signage is good with a suitable map, large hole number and distance listed.

Parking right in front of the school is discouraged, and the school requests that users park in the large parking lot in front of the football field. However, that's quite close to Hole #1, so it's convenient.

The teepads are natural and there's a row of seven stone blocks that serve as the front of the tee area. Also, the teepad area for Holes #5 and #6 are right next to building, so terribly errant shots could end up on the roof.

Hole #8 is the only hole that seems out of place with this layout. It's 330 feet, uphill and has a basket that's blind from the teepad. This would definitely merit being a par 4 for this age group and even experienced disc golfers will find it difficult to make a two here.

The first three baskets are a little too near one another and first-time visitors could be forgiven for pausing to figure out the correct pin. Navigation isn't difficult but it's not perfect either. Since the stone blocks can be tough to spot, it will be helpful to look for the tee signs, which are attached to trees.

The course has some limited availability since it's at an elementary school. During the school year, play is only allowed after 4 p.m. or on the weekends.

I visited this course very early in the morning during the summer. I was able to park, throw all nine holes and be back in my car in about 15 minutes.

With limited amenities, short holes and natural tee areas, this course receives a Passable rating. However, the layout is a solid fit for its audience, resulting in a better than average design.
