24 holes of good, quality golf. Not a bad hole to be found really. The first hole is the most boring, a routine field hole BUT it makes sense to have that for a warm-up. The last hole is the bomb, or rather a bomb over a valley, one of the best finishing holes I've played.

For the most part, you're in the woods, fighting and clawing your away among roots and up and down hills and navigating slopes. Lots of otherwise routine holes make you think twice b/c of roll away potential. Not the longest course but a good mix of length, trees, and lines. No two holes feel the same, from hole-to-hole it really mixes up the lines well. Some water OB in the form of a large creek/small river provides some pucker factor if you kick off the fairway too hard.

Lots of pin placements, which is rad, and the tee signs do a great job of letting you know which hole you're going for, distances, etc. Despite the age of this course, these signs are in remarkably good shape. The concrete tees are more than serviceable. Benches on every hole.

The course flows extremely well.

Not many. The worst part of this course is the erosion as there are exposed roots all over the place. There are some great places where an erosion barrier would greatly enhance the quality of the holes, like one between holes 20 & 21 for example. Put along the first high slope b/w the basket for 20 and the tee for 21, it would eventually create a neat little trench to shoot over for 21 or skip perilously into for 20, rather than just an eroded slope of meh like it is now.

The tees have some texture to them, occasionally my pivot foot (I wear Merrell Moabs) was prevented from pivoting for some reason. The tees are mostly good though, although some have a little gangsta lean to them.

This course reminds me a lot of Valley Springs and Johnson St, but it's better than both, easily really. Especially if you like wooded courses. I'd love to rate this course higher but the erosion kind of bothers me. If the club spent as much time carving in steps and barriers as they do carving their initials into dead trees and the lawn, it would be a non-issue.

Aside from that, it's hard to have a funner round of golf; this course would be great for doubles.

Favorite/Signature Hole: #24, duh. Who doesn't want to air out a drive over an ivy covered valley complete with a little creek?

Honorable Mentions goes to hole 20, just a simple but always fun downhill putter hole. Actually, the basket is tucked so close behind a tree that you're really better off going OH.

I was passing through the area, and had just one chance to play the course. I happened to arrive at the start of the bi-weekly tag match, but I was invited to join as a non-participant, and shown about the course by Dan, Aaron-Y, and Aaron-W. Aaron (Y, I think), about half my age, went over-and-beyond the call of duty when he retrieved my overthrown Mako on #7 from a steeply-banked creek!

The park is quite popular with non-players, which can make finding parking a challenge, and create some delays on some of the early holes, as they play somewhat near walking paths and open spaces.

Course initially plays in-to, out-from, and across the relatively flat open space at the front/near the creek of a multi-purpose park, then spends the bulk of its time playing up, down, and across multiple wooded slopes at the back of the park. Definitely more wooded than open, offering a wide variety of challenges, but avoiding the extremes. The types of challenges you'll face include:
* Looming out-of-bounds - a few of the holes will have ob, typically to the right, along the fairway/near the basket
* Precarious basket locations - a few of the baskets are located on/near steep slopes or mini-cliffs
* Woods combined with length - a few of the wooded holes are quite long, requiring a specific landing zone to be hit in order to have a reasonable approach shot to the basket
* Shot-shaping - while straight-n-true or subtle turns (both lefts and rights) will serve you well on most holes, there a definitely a few meat-hook shots
* Elevation - on the flat-side initially, there is a mixture up, down (some pretty steep), across slope, and valley tosses to overcome when avoiding trees at the same time

Even w/o playing with locals, navigation was simple, as the map is accurate, and there are plenty of next-tee signs.

Very good course. Unless you like them super-tight or super-long, you should enjoy your round here.

Always in nice shape, the maps for each hole is accurate and the next tee signs are perfect to find where to walk to next hole if not familiar with the area.

Most of holes are in woods and need adequate shoes, can twist ankle very easily or stumble. What do you expect walking through woods though.

I thought the course lay out was great! Nice practice basket. The course demands all the shots in your bag. Hyzer and anhyzer shot's. Good elevation changes and use of water hazards. All the different pin locations was really cool. As this way my first time playing this course, I really like the screws showing which basket location was in use. A pleasure to walk. Benches and trash can's on all the holes was a big plus!

Some of the holes in the middle felt a little cramped. But there are 24 holes!

I would highly recommend this course to anyone.

Beautiful park with all the amenities to keep the entire family busy while dads gets a round in. There is a great vibe about this place as soon as you get out of the car. Hole 1 is the perfect "empty your bag out" kind of hole to get you lose before you enter the woods for the next couple of hours.

-Direction signs and arrows on every hole so you always know where to go next.

-Bridges, great signs, tee pads, easy navigation.

- Very fun course to play.

None really, but my only negative thoughts were that there are 24 holes. Sometimes, you can have too much of a good thing. The final 6 holes do not add anything positive to the course, with the exception of hole 24 which is scenic but not very challenging. Although the first nine holes have great variety and some very fun shots, the course started to lose my attention much like a long drawn out story. If I didn't know any better, I swear that I played some of the same holes twice when I hit the next 15.

I've been waiting 10 years to play this course and I didn't leave disappointed. Some people are so lucky. What I would do to have a park like this in my town. The elevation changes, mowed fairways, bridges, landscaping around pins, nice LONGGG tee pads, playgrounds for the kids, Hickory has it going on and they should be proud. Well worth the wait.

This course has 23 holes with a majority of them having multiple pin placements. If a hole has multiple pin locations, there is a screw in the sign post indicating which position the box is in.

22 of the 23 holes are very fair with the only unfair hole being 15.5. I am assuming that they will work on making a fairer fairway on this hole as there is little to no line currently from the tee-pad to the basket.

There are signs with arrows which lead you from one basket to the next tee; you may have to look above eye level to see these signs.

Elevation comes into play on almost every hole and a creek is in play on 2 or 3 holes(right side of fairway). There are a variety of shots and the most of the shorter holes play longer due to throwing uphill. Most of the holes have a righty and a lefty route to the basket.

While benches are not on every hole, they are generally located on ever 2 - 4 holes apart.

Teepads are nice as only 1 or two could be improved by making it another foot longer.

Hole 15 is an approximately 425 foot hole. The teepad is currently an old conveyor belt. This would be a nice teepad except for the fact the ground underneath it is not level.

Hole 15.5 has little to no line from basket to tee.

This is a multiuse park and it is not common to see people on the hiking trails that run near some of the holes. Not really a con but you have to keep an eye out on really busy days.

Do not play this course if you are not in shape! I am in somewhat decent shape and halfway during the second round I was wanting to quit. Of course it didn't help that it was in the mid 90s that day with high humidity. I finished the second round but I could definitely tell that my body had spent all of its energy.

Great course to play, love the various shots you have to have and use, teaches putting because if you hit band you will more than likely roll away on most holes.

- A beautiful course, extremely well-kept, with a diverse range of hole styles and distances. 23 holes work their way across grassy park areas dotted with trees, by a river, and through the woods.
- A fair amount of elevation used to full potential, including sloped greens. The final gorge shot on 22 is epic.
- Excellent signage. All tee signs detailed and comprehensive. Pin position is indicated on the base of each tee sign with a bolt. Next tee signs as needed. Good concrete tees. Benches, trashcans, etc.

- Not a whole lot here to complain about. Nothing mind-blowing, but nothing out of place or bad, either.

- Friendly locals will graciously go out of their way to include visitors or aid in navigation.

Great course with a variety of holes. While I am not a very good player I felt the course was fair. The upkeep and signage by the local disc group (UFOs) are worthy of praise. If you play 15.5 you actually play 23 holes. Lovely foothills stream through park and beside course. This was an absolute delight. Water did not really come into play but I am sure it would be different afterwards of much rain.

If you can't walk up and down inclines you will have a problem. No other cons.

The locals, including UFO members, were great to meet. They have a passion to have a good course. I played this course and Buckhorn in New Hill, NC in the last two Mondays. Highly reccomend both.

For me, a fun course is one where I get to throw my mid range discs/shots off the tee a good bit and this course is ideal for that. Hyzers, anhyzers, forehand, backhand, thumbers- they all have their place on this course. I typically throw a driver on few holes- but I don't have to throw over 400ft. to have a chance at a birdie. I love wooded courses like this one- tight but fair. There are no silly mandos or man made out-of-bounds needed on this naturally well designed course. Easy parking, nice putting basket, great signage, comfortable seating for four people at each hole, excellent tee boxes- this one has all the amenities one could ask for in a disc golf course. I will spare you the hole-by-hole analysis.

There is and will continue to be some issues with erosion. In a tourney, I missed a 25ft. birdie putt that quickly became a roll-away and a 7 on the score card. That was my fault. Eventually, the erosion may negatively impact the trees and that should be addressed.

This was one of my favorite courses even before they added four great new holes. If you are local- you already love it. Road tripping to western NC? Play this one and Richmond Hill in Asheville. You will be glad that you did.

Accessibility: Course is at a central location in town. A short drive regardless of where you live in Hickory. Also nearby to I-40 and Highway 321 for those traveling to play.

Maintenance: Course is very well maintained. The local club is devoted to keeping everything in top shape, from blown fairways during the fall to mown fairways during the spring and summer. You'll always know the basket location and the footage to said location. They use letters for different position and there will be a screw beside said letter to let you know exactly where it is. Accurate footages and hole layouts. Benches on nearly every hole, more than one bench on a few. Trash cans on nearly every hole. Keep it clean. These folks work hard to provide us an enjoyable experience, so we should do our part as well.

Variety: A wide variety of holes and shots. Open, wooded, uphill, downhill, left, right, straight. This course will test your game in all aspects. It's rare to have a round that doesn't force you to pull every shot out of the bag. The majority of holes have multiple locations. As noted above, those will be noted beside each tee. These locations can have a big impact not only on the way the hole is played and the shot required but also the difficulty of the hole. Make sure you check before you throw. As of now, many holes are being moved to their closer positions for the winter.

I don't have many gripes. #11 is a tough route. Fairway stays straight and turns dead left. It's not really the ideal route for either location. There really is no identifiable route aside from it other than a squeaker through the trees. Can't complain about the roots. Just a warning, watch out for them, especially with those steep greens.

Just a great course. Maybe a bit technical and challenging for a beginner. Even challenging for advanced players. Demanding. Good flow of holes, even with the several new additions. Looks like at least one more is coming in the near future. From what I hear we could have 27 sooner than later.

A great course. A fun course. Any time I need to go to the big-town, I try to allow time to go to the Glenn. I love the opening rip than quickly turns into wooded wonder. A wooded course is always more fun for me (being more of a precision player instead of power). This course is awesome. And how many holes do they have today!? Who knows... they add one about every few months or so I think. Great work, UFO crew!

Maybe the poo smell on and around hole 7... but maybe that has been fixed by all the construction. Anyway... that was a stretch. Couldn't think of anything else.

A great course. In the area, play it.

This course is awesome. The park is beautiful and well laid out. The local club does an excellent job of maintaining the course. Good facilities, benches and signs at every hole, multiple pin locations at most holes and they are moved frequently which is very nice. There is a very good mix of left and right shots, uphill and downhill shots, lots of trees which make you think about how you'd like approach each hole.

There a only a few holes (#1, #8 and #12) that let you open up and crank a drive. Slower, more controlled throws are the keys to success on this course. If you stay on the fairway the course is very manageable but if you hit a tree or go off the fairway you'll have to make a very good shot to save par.

#5, #7 and #22 are my favorite holes. #5 and #7 both play alongside the creek that runs through the park. The creek is pretty easy to avoid but it can get inside your head a little. For RHBH players, turning your disc over can spell disaster. #22 is very cool with 4 different pin locations. You'll throw a short shot over a deep gulley filled with kudzu. All three of these holes are good places to pick up a birdie.

There are a number of holes that can really mess up a good round here. It's not uncommon to hit the basket on an approach shot or putt only to watch your disc roll 50 feet down a hill, which can be funny when it happens to your buddy but is a real bummer if it happens to you.

The only thing that keeps me from giving this course a rating of 5 is that there are a few holes (#11 with the pin in the long, #13 and #14) that are basically a crapshoot. There isn't a definable route to take or gap to hit. On these holes you basically throw and then pray that your shot doesn't hit a tree and makes its way through. I have birdied these holes and it's not impossible but it is about 80% luck that your shot will make it through the trees.

I love playing here but it's not really a good beginners course. The trees and tight holes can be discouraging to new players. However, the guys at the local club are very nice and helpful. I've learned a lot by playing with them over the last year.
I've played here over 30 times and it feels like a new course every time I go out. If you're in the area or want to take a little roadtrip this is very good/fun place to play.

Excellent course! Beautiful park and very challenging holes. Every hole requires something different and there are a lot of wooded holes. Course weaves all through a park and all around it! Good course for beginners and pros! Has a little of everything! 18th hole is amazing: Thrown over a ravine, looks awesome!

Few holes are hard to walk on because of all the rocks and roots. but that comes with some great terrain like this course has. not too much wrong with this one.

Any player can improve from playing this course! I have played it over 15 times and still look forward to playing it so i can try to improve my score! Very fun and easy to find!

Where do I start....
I am rating this as a 4.5 simply because it was truly PHENOMENAL and I want to reserve the 5....maybe I will change my mind...***This is the BEST course I have played to date***I played this course in the rain today with 52 degree temps and loved it. For the UFO's...your commitment to the sport and to your course is evident and very much appreciated.

1)Course Layout- This course is laid out PERFECTLY in tune and in line with its surroundings. Every hole is an adventure in itself, which is one of the reaons I LOVED this course. The mix of long, short, open, tight, up hill, down hill, cross the Kudzu valley on 18...plus a very plesant walk in the woods...
2) Signage...THIS COURSE IS THE STANDARD, in my HUMBLE opinion. Perfect signage and directional signs, hole layout, basket placement...EVEN the practice basket says, "PRACTICE" on it. BRAVO!!!!!!!
3) Risk versus Reward- A+...every single hole caused an internal dialogue...do a lay up or do I bomb it? Do I spike hyzer or keep the disc below the tree line and work the shot? What happends if....you catch my drift...This was SUCH a neat treat because not only was I playing in the rain, playing a course I never played before, but I was playing THE COURSE....today it won..+2...
4) Architectural detail- I say this because of the DIFFERENT shots that I had to make today because of the fairway shapes, hole placements, uphills, downhills...alone today I had to execute straight shots, Hyzer/A-Hyzer, Thumber, Tomahawk, long put, short put, roller, skip shot, and a PUT UP or SHUT UP 200' drive (normally not a big deal) acoss a Kudzu valley..
5) Practice area. NICE open practice area (well marked as stated above) and adjacent to the parking lot and Hole #1. I state this as a Pro because it is nice to have an area where you can short put and long put for warmups, plus be near your car for a quick change if you under or over dressed
6) Online course map. This map was GREAT...it was VERY easy navigating the course, but it was nice to have such an accurate and detailed map to have as a back up...I drove over 2 hours to play this course and did not spend my time searching for baskets or tee pads....
7) Course Condition. A+++...PROPS to the UFO's...guys, your course is OUTSTANDING and I appreciated the attention to detail with the benches, signage, directional signs, but more importantly there are no downed trees in the fairways, or psycho underbrush. The steps, bridges, and benches are in GREAT if not PERFECT shape, and it is CLEAN...AHHHH...how refreshing...AND...nice Info Kiosk...it represents you guys and gals wells and hats off to the UFO's...Oh, I would be remiss if I did not mention on Hole #2 HOW COOL of a idea was it to dig out UFO in the fairway...NICE TOUCH!!

Cons....Hmmm, the ONLY con I can think of is that this course is over 2 hours away from me (I live in Chilhowie, VA).

For me, this is disc golf, This is why I have fallen in love with this sport. On a very serious note, THANKS UFO'S. You have a great course and I appreciate the love and attention you show your course. It made it a very PLEASANT trip and I plan to be back...
Favorite Holes-
#2- I LOVE this hole...one slip up or left turn of the disc and you are toast!!! Nice little holeshot hole and steep drop on the other side of the paved trail...
#10...I nearly aced this hole...I hit the basket and it hit the tree right in front...
Hole 7.5- I will always refer to this as the BASTARD hole...a simple little hole, but that little L to R curve and across the ravene took me by suprise...but it was fun...
Hole 18- I have to admit that a 200' drive is really not a big deal for me, but put kudzu between you and the basket and a ZERO chance of finding your disc if you shank it, PRICELESS....got my blood pumping....
GO PLAY THIS COURSE...This was such a great round for me and worth every minute of travel and gallon of gas. You have restrooms/changing area (CLEAN, too), great playground areas and places for the family to play while dad is in the woods chasing discs...safe area of Hickory in a nice neighborhood, but most importantly a very family-oriented, clean, and inviting place to come to!!!

- Great road trip course. You will not be disappointed to get out of your car to play this one. It's just fun to play.
- Great shots. Soooo many holes have great shots, requiring you to perfectly shape your drive... or else! You'll need to be able to throw hyzers, anhyzers, BH, FH, OH, s-turns, uphill, downhill, sidehill, longish, short, and accurate.
- The fairways are more than FAIR. If you hit your gap with the right disc you have a great chance to birdie. However, if you miss your gap, you could get kicked into the woods and have to pitch out for bogey.
- Beautifully Maintained... benches, tee-signs, baskets, next-tee signs, no trash, etc... The local club (the UFO's) does a wonderful job.
- Multiple Baskets. All of the holes had multiple basket positions. And, a few of the holes actually have two baskets, giving you the option to play the hole as long or short, or both (if no one is behind you).

- Sewer Smell. The city installed a sewer line through the park... and on a few holes, it's pretty rank. Every now and then you get a whiff, and the smelly dense air coats your throat for a while. Gross.
- There was a cop in the parking lot the whole time. "MAJOR Con". You have to walk right past him on the way back to the car, which can be sketch if you're carrying anything you shouldn't be carrying.
- The 4 Extra Holes do nothing to make the course better. A few of the "extra" holes are redundant to what is already out there (13 and 20 are practically the same golf Hole). More could have been done (although I do like 15).
- Driving directions could get confusing. Thus...

- GPS Directions: The house's address directly across the streets from the parking lot is 2080 6th St. NW. Hickory, NC 28601.
- Overall... I had a good time and have come back to play this course a few times. However, the second and third time I played it I wasn't as impressed as the first time. Only a few of the Holes are Championship quality, the rest are good little golf holes, but far from exceptional. Most of the holes were reachable with a putter or midrange, with only a few Holes requiring a driver due to the distance of the Hole, an extreme turn, or needed skip.
- Great shots, benches, signage, next-tee directional aids, etc... all great and make for a fun disc golf experience. However, there's not enough length, and the course is slightly redundant. In the end, I dropped my disc rating 1/2 a disc because the shots just weren't epic enough for me. Still a very good course as 3.5 Discs indicates.
- My Score: -10 (with 2 bogeys).

One of the best courses I've ever played. Great layout. Mixture of open and wooded holes. Fun elevation changes and shot shaping. When you're in the woods the age of this course really shows in a good way. Very mature lanes and well maintained. You will empty your bag on #18. What a great tee shot!

I'd be nitpicking. This place is amazing! You can't see the basket on #2, it is a blind shot over a hill into the woods. Great hole, just took a while to figure out where to go. Beware of runners/walkers on the trails, everyone seemed to understand it was a disc golf course. Take your time on the pad and locate the next tee because with all the trails it is easy to get turned around.

Play this course! You won't regret it.

clean, great variety, good variations in distance, very well laid out, very easy to navigate (there are signs pointing to next tee), not crowded, plenty of parking, trash cans on several holes, benches on every hole, wooded and open holes (wooded holes are clear of underbrush making it easy to spot off target discs), multiple pin placements, great elevation changes

not a lot to speak of here, the only issue we had were other park users on the fairways that didn't seem to know, or possibly care, that we were trying to play the hole

Course is one of the better courses that I have played. The course is beautifully laid out and the local club does a wonderful job of upkeep on the course. When we got to the first hole I was expecting long open holes. Holes two starts out in an open field and you throw into the woods. After that there is a great mix of wooded and open holes.

Once you get into the wooded holes the great elevations changes also start to come into play. They have you throwing up and down hills, and across as well. Holes three has you at the bottom of one of the hills throwing up and across the hill. At the bottom of the hill is the creek, if you have a bad throw that ends up rolling it cold very well make its way into the water.

After hole #3 there is a bit of a walk to the tee for four, probably the worst part of the course, but it is very well marked with an arrow pointing in the direction of the next tee, and once out of the woods, there is a marker on the blacktop walkway that directs you to the tee. These markers are great, other courses should take a page from these guys books and mark all courses this well, made playing the course a lot more enjoyable, not once did we have to look for the next tee.

This course has some great holes worth pointing out, but I will try to keep it short. My favorite holes one the course are 14 and 18. On hole 14 you find yourself throwing an extreme downhill shot, with a rather tight wooded fairway. The basket sits at the bottom of the hill right behind a rather large tree. There was no one else on the course so I let a few loose on this hole, it was great fun until I had to go retrieve all of them.

Hole 18 was the best on the course. The tee and the basket are on opposite hills and you throw over a valley to get to the basket. The valley below is full of Kudzu and can make it very easy to loose a disc, I would say if it goes in, there is a really good chance its not coming back out. I even pulled out an old dx Valk, known as the throw away disc, used mostly for water holes, to throw in case I had a bad throw.

Overall this course, was great. I would recommend this course to anyone, no matter skill level. Each hole has at least two pin placements, some more, that make for a variety of play, and as I said before the local club does a wonderful job with upkeep so I imagine the placements get changes on a regular basis. If this course is any indication of the quality of courses in North Carolina, I can't wait to get back down there and play many more.

I gave this course a 3.5 rating but struggled with giving it a 4. If you look at my rating I would say that I am rather stingy in the rating area, so that's how good this course is.

The park also has many other facilities. Restrooms on site, picnic areas, and playgrounds. They even have a loudspeaker system and when we were on 16, you could here the announcement that the park was closing in 20 minutes. I thought this was a pretty good idea as well, since they close and lock the gate at different times, according to the sunset times. Great touch.

A good variety of holes, left and right fairways and water that plays a factor on a couple holes for added "adventure" but not too deep so wading out to get your disc is easy. Terrain changes that challenge you on a few holes.

Seems to be just about free of Poison Ivy and such as I am allergic and spend some time in the "woods" throwing my disc.

Quite challenging for a novice player but still well worthy for a veteran. Beautiful surroundings - pack a lunch for after.

Roots play a factor more often than not. They can help or hurt, especially when your disc starts to roll away. Hole #18's ravine is starting to get overgrown by Kudzu making any disc thrown short just about impossible to find.

Agree that parking can be a problem if you get there mid-day or later, on the weekends especially.

I am a novice but really enjoy playing this course. One reason is that it is about a mile from my house. It offers a good chance for me to get some decent exercise, bring my dog along and have fun. Worth a trip to play.

Sometimes frustratingly difficult, especially for a beginner. Be sure and be patient with this course, most holes would not be a par three at other locations.

Lot's of fun, especially with friends. Be sure to a lot yourself a lot of time when playing this course, It took four of us almost two and a half hours to get through it.

The course is a bit of a hike, so be prepared for that. Hole number 18 is easier than it looks. It's about 200 feet, but it also drops between the tee and the hole, I actually overshot it significantly. It's a beautiful hole though, but almost anyone could make it across the ravine unless they really messed up their drive. I made it across easily with an Innova Goblin.
