1) Basically two 9-hole courses, so you can either the front or back 9 or all 18.

2) Pathway made of logs that mark the fairway of each hole depending on proximity to other holes.

3) Great mix of long, medium, short holes. Variety of upshot, downshot drives/opportunities.

4) Multiple positions on all holes.

5) Signs on all holes and show location of the next hole.

6) Log benches and garbage cans/buckets at every hole.

7) Trees provide nice hallways, protection from the elements and add the technical element to the course, which is suited for all levels of players.

8) Nice, long and wide concrete teepads on every hole.

9) Fence segments around teepad areas provide some protection from errant throws of players that are playing holes running parallel to the hole that you are currently on.

10) Steps/stairs located on some holes where it may be too steep to walk/hike/climb.

11) I believe that local transit passes on Fulton Street and Crossover Drive, so driving is not the only viable mode of travel to play here.

1) Don't recall drinking fountains on the course, not a real deal breaker.

2) Some baskets to holes are located within the same vicinity of other holes, so have the course map handy.

3) This is a very popular course, but even more so a popular park, so waiting times can be longer than what you normally expect.

4) Bathroom located across the street near basket of Hole #18. Go before your round or hold it in until the end.

I drove 2.5 hours to play this course and was greeted with cloudy weather and minute sprinkling but was so refreshing after enduring valley heat, where I live. The course map does not tell all about the course, as there is a lot of walking/hiking up and down, which starts at hole 1 but gets really going on hole 11 to the finish, so bring a good pair of hiking shoes, walking stick, water and a good healthy stamina with you or you may have a bad experience. If this is your first time playing, as this was for me, bring the course map just in case you don't get lucky and bump into local regulars that are playing, like I was fortunate enough to have happen to me. Some hole locations are close enough to JFK Drive, so watch your throws. Also be careful when you finish 11 and walk towards 12 or the left side of the 14th teepad. They are located by slopes of a hill that is known for erosion, so watch your steps.

If the basket of hole 14 is on A, your next shot, putt or short approach, better be money or like my shot, it will roll down the side of the hill. Lucky for me, it was only about 15 feet. It could have ended up in the meadow, which would have been really bad for your score. The teepad for hole 13 is located pretty close to Crossover Drive. Try to keep your drive on hole 12 off the hillside because you won't get good footing, which means shorter and possibly inaccurate throws. Make sure your sidearm, flick and/or forehand is working because there are a lot of pin positions that require that type of shot. There are a few long holes 375+ but it's basket location that makes this course challenging for all. I would rather wait to play here and potentially wait for groups ahead of me to play out a hole or pedestrians to cross paths, than play at some courses which I could finish in no time at all. Difference is that my friend and I had a blast playing here and he just began playing about a month ago.

I live near Sacramento but this is easily one of my Top 5 courses and has been a must to play any time I am in the City for the past decade. I remember being the last to play a few years back when they put in the new tee boxes....playing the course once and then coming back through and all of the baskets were gone (!).
It can be super technical (#4, 5 and 6) or up hill challenging (#12) or relatively wide open (# 3, 10)....but most are potential birdies with just the right drive/putt for us decent players.
Just like the rest of GGP, you lose yourself in the beautiful trees and smell of eucalyptus and forget you're in the middle of a huge City.
Truth be told....the City and the Bay in general NEED MORE COURSES. Berkeley/Alameda is just a frustrating place to lose discs in water and De La Vega is too far. That said, the saving grace is this amazingly beautiful course in the middle of a beautiful park in the middle of a beautiful City!

Crowds can be an issue....especially in the middle of a weekend day but I've been there early on Saturday mornings and had no problems/waiting whatsoever.
The challenge of non-players wandering through the course is worse than the challenge of other players wandering around in some of the holes on the front 9 that run right next to each other. The netting set up to protect the tees is good but they just put too many holes in too small a space (specifically #s 6/7/8). Not an issue if you know how to keep your discs in the fairway but not everyone is so skilled.
Be careful poking around under bushes in some areas as I have come across some resting local park residents.

Lots of great work has been done to clean up the tee boxes, signs and baskets over the years. It used to be that you chanced a twisted ankle with some of the dirt boxes they had years ago....not any more.
I know space is at a super premium in SF but there has to be somewhere else that they can add courses that doesn't require you to drive and drive and drive... (pun intended!).

Large mixture of different style, difficulty, and length holes. All tee boxes are well kept, fairways are well marked, spread out course. A few really sweet elevated shots

Large redwood trees, quite a few hard dog leg holes. Can get crowded on weekends.

Would play everyday if I could.

Signage at all holes. Tee pads standard sized with a few that had been extended. With the course laid out in two, nine hole loops, there's the great break to just run the front or back nine.

The course is very well landscaped, clearly marked paths, with signs that the course is consistently being worked on (piles of leaves waiti to get picked up, and what looked like a stack of bricks for extending more tee pads.

The course requires a good variety of shots, necessitating well shaped shots.", making for an extremely fun round.

This is definitely a multiple-use park, but throughout the round when others were near by, they were pretty respectful of the fact that this part of the park was for disc golf. There were some people who were just Iivious, but even with signs posted, stating "Entering Disc Golf Course: Watch for flying discs," you can't really expect everyone to read, right?

There are probably a few spots where fairways get closer than I'd have liked but the course isn't anything new and probably just means that I need to have better control. For those few holes that they can see the distinct possibility of discs getting near other fairways there are netted fences ( so a positive from what I was trying to note as a negative, which the folks who run the course have already noted and made the improvement).

This is an amazing course when it comes to fun holes, difficult shots, and in a gorgeous park full of 100ft+ trees (providing shade and cover from rain), through much of the course.

-Extremely well kept
-Great community
-Constant rotation of pin placements
-Still very challenging after years of playing there

-Can get really busy on weekends/holidays
-The occasional inconsiderate supagroup

-Everything people, placement of tees to holes, area, and day.

-A little hard to find the disc, but who cares thats what makes a great course.
-I don't have this course here in Huntington beach.

I had a blast! I just wish i could have played here with my friends from home but, I still had a blast can't wait to make another trip up.

There is a wide range of difficulties to maneuver thru when playing this course. The first 9 holes are inside a forest of trees that will be happy to knock down any type of shot you think you can blast past them.
The back 9 is differing altitudes and lengths to test your drives and deep putts.
The par 4's saved my life my second time thru when I was keeping score, although they should have been farther in distance for actual par 4's.
Great donation tee pads and hole maps (which I absolutely love!!)

This course gets very busy so need to play it early.

Par 4's are kind of short (which works out sometimes too)

How many PDGA Tournaments have been played at this course?

This course gives me the challenge I need. I love this course. Damn near perfect. I've played it over 500 times, and the way it's designed, it still can kick my butt. Like hole 8 in C position! And the narrow alley that is 4 (and also 5)! Tee off from 11 and tell me you don't love it too!
Also, a great active club here that changes the pins around often, and does all the course up keep. Very friendly and considerate people. Course in better shape than De Lavega in Santa Cruz (signage, construction of, beauty of), which is the gold standard around here. (even though they do have 27 holes to our 18)

Tobacco smoke, and a few overdo the alcohol thing, plus dropping or forgetting trash, like bottles.

We really do need a second course, here in SF.

No Poison IVY in the state of California, look it up, please, if you doubt.
No Poison OAK on this course, as Golden Gate Park was planted like a garden, which it is. In the 1800's and before, this spot was all Sand Dunes. The soil and plants were brought in. And we did Not plant poison oak. I feel compelled to end this rumor, so Anyone finding said 'poison oak'- please contact me with it's exact location, and maybe a picture. We'll check it out right away. p.s. I am quite allergic to poison oak, and it is one of my favorite features of this entire park that there is none. Thanks.

This course is fabulous. Many difficult tees where there are trees, trees, trees.

Crowded and slow on the weekends.
