Pros:
This is a classic park course with acres and acres of well mown grass and hundreds of mature trees. There was virtually no brush or rough to deal with, unless you drive it close to the creek on Hole 18.
While this is a pretty open course, the large trees are put to good use to create gaps in front of the tee pads or obstacles around the baskets. There is a good variety of holes requiring both left and right-turning drives, as well as a few that favor dead-straight. I used RHFH to good effect on a couple of holes that needed a right finish near the basket.
Hole 1 features the most magnificent Live Oak tree that I've ever seen on a DG course. The crown is about 100' wide with branches drooping all of the way to the ground. You don't want to throw a disc under there, but it is a great place to check out. There are several others nearly as large on the front nine.
From the long tees the holes average 367' which is respectable for a city park course. Much of this distance is found in the two par 5 holes (801' and 894') and the two par 4 holes (603' and 516'. Most of the par 3 holes are in the "expected" 200' - 300' range.
There is noticeable elevation on the course, and the long drive back down the hill on Hole 16 was a highlight.
Concrete tees on every hole (with some alternate shorter tees), Innova Discatcher baskets with clear numbers, and decent metal tee signs take care of the important infrastructure. Didn't notice any trash cans or benches.
Cons:
The teepads were decently sized concrete, but had an unusually rough texture and on some holes were not exactly level. Nothing that really threw off my drives, but not optimal.
Tee signs were also adequate, but not from the John Houck shop so didn't present the detailed hole map that I've come to expect on his courses.
Some low areas apparently hold water for an extended length of time. Holes 11 and 16 weren't playable during my round due to standing water. While it has been a wet fall it hadn't rained in the preceding several days.
While I appreciated the challenge that the holes did offer, I felt like I was throwing over open ground for much of my round.
Other Thoughts:
Loved the historic bridge that was relocated into the park and that provided access to the back nine.
While there is no parking lot, ample parallel parking is available along Lions Club Drive, placing you right next to the Hole 1 teepad and the Hole 18 basket.
No water or restrooms to be found.
