Pitch and Putt

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 24, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

WHAT TO EXPECT: Small well maintained park with a course circling ball fields and a playground in a counterclockwise direction. Quaint off the beaten path ace run pitch and putt with a mix of short open holes and tight longer more challenging holes.

AMENITIES: Large parking area, newly built playground, well maintained ball fields.

TEES/SIGNAGE/BASKETS: Tees are natural grass with two small circular discs indicating the front and sides of the tee (red for the short and blue for the long). Tee signs exist at the red tee location and you will have to do some searching to find the blue tees but they are usually pretty close to the reds. The signs themselves are basic but contain all the relevant information and are in good shape. Baskets are White Patriots in good shape.

DESIGN: Combination of open ace runs and very technical shots. Red tees provide a short and simpler version of the course targeted at beginners while still forcing touch and execution. Baskets placed near trouble (slopes, OB, thick brush, etc) Blue tees amplify the distance slightly while being positioned in a much more demanding tee location.

EXTRAS: Holes #2 and #9 probably fight for signature hole. It's rare on a beginner designed hole that I would say holes stand out for being excellent. Hole #2 provides three options off of the tee, a left to right spike hyzer over an OB church parking lot, a 5 foot wide straight gap down a row of trees, or a massive right to left pushing hyzer that exponentially increases the distance needed to throw but has no danger of OB. This hole instantly stood out to us and surprised us for being on a beginner course. Hole #9 is a tight left to right tunnel shot between a wall of tree on the property line left and a 10 foot tall ball field fence on the right with a low ceiling of trees starting at the end of the tunnel before twisting to the right at a difficult distance relative to the shot shape required. Two very out of place holes on a beginner course, but excellent for more skilled players.

Cons:

NATURAL TEES: Difficult footing as some of the tees are subject to erosion, often unlevel, and hard to spot some times.

PLAYGROUND: Brand new playground built directly in between the tee of Hole #4 and the basket. No way to avoid throwing over the playground and will probably result in this hole needing to be redesigned and moved.

DIFFICULTY: This can be annoying for some (I didn't mind it though) that 7 of the holes are pretty simple 200ish foot ace runs with not a ton of difficulty while 2 holes require very specific shot shapes and a decent amount of power. It is a welcome change for more skilled players but can be upsetting to beginners.

MIDDLE OF NOWHERE: Another victim of being just another park course in an off the path location. Certainly solid for those locally but nothing close by to grow into, and not enough property on site to expand of increase upon what currently exists.

Other Thoughts:

Another solid but not spectacular 9 hole course. It does what it does well, and met its intended purpose. Once again though, only the hardcore baggers will venture out this direction to play this course.
