A fun round if you like spiders 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 15, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Really well upkeep-both baskets and tee pads were in good condition.
Good mix of open and wooded holes. The front nine requires players to hit their gaps if they want to have any shot at birdie. The back nine opens up dramatically with more "grip it and rip it" type holes.
Players don't have to throw 500' to make a good score on this course. There are very few bomber holes and most of the time, if players hit their lines, they will be very happy with their score.
There are a couple of touches on this course that make it unique. There is a hanging basket on one hole and a very unique elevated basket on hole 12.
Tee signage was mediocre. I had Udisc to help and was able to find my way from hole to hole with very little difficulty.
Benches provided on most holes.
Two sets of tee pads on most holes.

Cons:

Spiders. Everywhere. If your tee shot misses the fairway, not only will you take a high score, but you will also find many types of spiders and other assorted bugs. However, this was only a problem on the front nine due to how wooded it was.
Even though the days leading up to my round here had been sunny, there were still some low lying areas in the fairway where there was some mud and a little bit of water.
Some of the holes on the back nine got pretty monotonous due to the lack of challenging lines and because of how open they were.

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this course. If you are near the Gulf Shores area this course is a must play because it will give even intermediate players a challenging round.

A Fun Course, But Not Pecan Hollow 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 30, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- slightly better tee signs than Pecan Hollow
- dual concrete tees on every hole
- benches on most holes
- a few garbage cans throughout course (8 and 16, possibly others)
- navigation is fairly straightforward
- fairly picturesque and well maintained with clean fairways and mown grass
- high quality, well maintained baskets
- disc golf only area in a quiet preserve

Cons:

- tee signs are still mediocre
- not much in the way of next tee signs
- walk from 14 to 15 backtracks across field and could have been designed better
- basically no elevation change
- end of course is very wide open and not particularly exciting (13-16 especially)
- hole 8 white tee points wrong direction
- hole 2 in particular seems to have a low lying area that would be perenially muddy (significant standing water when I was there)

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed this course, but nowhere near as much as Pecan Hollow on the other side of the parking lot. It is a fun course and is definitely going to be easier for the intermediate or lower player. It is partly wooded and partly open, with shorter hole distances. It is well maintained and generally well designed with the main exception being the hole 14 to 15 transition and hole 8 tee issues mentioned above.

Note that the online course map has the 13 white tee in the wrong spot, it is in the middle of the field vs. along the treeline like the map shows.

The tee signs here are a bit better than Pecan Hollow, since they are permanent and have hole distances on them. However, they are some sort of sticker application, and many of them are worn off and in poor repair. Some tees have the distance marked on them, but again, most of these have worn off. These definitely need some improvement. Otherwise, the dual concrete tees on every hole are great.

The dual tees mostly just add 50-100' to each hole, but there are a few with an actual different approach direction which I tried to capture in the pictures I took.

The courses at Graham Creek are really limited on elevation change, but they do make up for it with natural beauty. While this course didn't compare to Pecan Hollow for me, it is still definitely worth the trip out, especially if you're already there for the other course. I enjoyed my round and encourage others to check it out. This course is very respectable, it just didn't have the wow factor for me that I saw in Pecan Hollow.

Wide variety 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 16, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-wide variety of holes on course (wooded and open)
-easy to find course
-access two courses from 1 parking spot
-water jug and cups at entrance to course
-well maintained and mowed
-great baskets
-most holes have benches at the tee pads

Cons:

-miss a shot, hit a tree, kick into deep woods
-some very thick brush can be hard to find a disc alone. Helpful to have friends
-navigation to next hole can be hard at times
-no maps of each hole at tee box. Can be hard to spot basket sometimes

Other Thoughts:

-first half of holes are in heavy woods
-second half of holes is wide open with long shots. Not much variety. But has some fun basket placements
-looks like a ropes course / military training course on the open holes

Nice Challenge in the Trees 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 19, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Excellent course among the trees. Fun and challenging. Requires a lot of different type of throws and strategy.

2nd best wooded course I have ever played.

The pros are:

: Great concrete tee pads.
: Benches at almost every hole.
: Tee signs with distance and map at each blue tee. White tees have distanced painted on them.
: Good variety of shaped shots required.
: Nice variety of distances.
: Gets lots of play so the course is in great shape.
: Two other courses near by do lots of opportunities to play and work on your game.
: Blue tees are challenging but fun and fair.

Cons:

Holes 13 to 17 are just long hyper shots to get you back to the house. No variety and just the same shot over and over. When it is windy it is just boring disc golf. Actually I imagine it's boring even without the wind.

Even though I played the whites I can say that a couple of the par 4s are just too short from the whites.

Other Thoughts:

13 great holes and 5 boring holes make Preserve a great course that would provide great fun round after round. If I lived close I would play this course over and over.

A Tale of Two Courses 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 4, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Multiple tee pads, good baskets, very challenging design. The first five holes are what happens when a course designer is a LHBH or RHFH thrower and they are tired of every hole on every other course have a traditional hyzer play! As a RHBH player with a terrible FH shot, the challenge came at me fast! The middle holes were a little more forgiving, although the guardian trees on some of these baskets were tough! The course was well manicured, clean, and looked to be well used. They appear to have a very active club in the community which is great.

Cons:

The back six holes that play around the open field lacked interest. Chuck it as hard as you can and then, depending on your arm size, either do it again or drop in your putt. Not a lot to it. It felt like the designers used extreme distance just because they had to get the players back to the start. The front nine was tough with very narrow fairways, the back nine didn\'t have any fairways! Hole signage was generally lacking on the course.

Other Thoughts:

Over the last two days I got to play all three courses at Graham Creek. They each play a role and when taken together, represent an impressive disc golf community\'s efforts. The Preserve was a challenging course, but ultimately was just considered "good" and not amazing.
