Grove City DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 22, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good Baskets. Well Maintained. Good practice course mainly for midrange and putters. Mostly open / along wood lines.

Cons:

No tee pads and short simple holes that are all relatively the same. Not much variety. Yards and baseball fields can come into play if you have a very bad throw.

Other Thoughts:

Closest course to my house so I will definitely utilize the practice

Approach and putter practice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is behind a school, in the (mostly) unused areas around the other sports fields used by the school and community, as well as some backyards. It skirts the woods along one side for about half the holes, but is mostly out in the open. I played the first 9 while on the phone the entire time and scored a -6 without even thinking. It seems to be mostly well manicured, and has solid baskets, so a nice course for practicing form and putting mainly, which is a good thing. If I were a kid at this school, I'd be stoked to have this course in the field, for sure.

Cons:

Theres always something going on around this school, so you are constantly dodging pedestrians and kids to play. I've had to throw around or skip holes entirely due to spectators for baseball/soccer, etc basically sitting directly in the middle of the fairway. 7 will literally have cars parked within 3 ft of the basket during any baseball game, and 8 might be unplayable, too. Had some brats from little league even heckle us once. Folks have walked out in front of me right while I was winding up to throw. At #14, you are literally throwing over someones driveway. One of the days I played here, this family must've had a party, and I was throwing through a couple of pickup trucks praying I didn't hit someones side panel! There is also a corral next to the fairway for 18 for small children, too, and I've seen that completely packed with kids, which can be disconcerting for anyone that is unsure about consistency to throw. The next time that happened, I had my wife with me and we just skipped 17/18 entirely. Also, someone from the neighborhood's dog was hanging out here one day and went after a CE QMS I threw. I had to run after it to scare it off before it ate up my QMS! That last 9 is nicely manicured, but super simple and crowded up, especially in the last 4 or 5. Really jammed in there. What all this amounts to is... its crowded, and disc golf is an afterthought, so be aware of this and adjust your manners accordingly. It still fills a void in this area of Cbus, and will hopefully create a need for more courses in Grove City, which probably has some great land that could be used just for that purpose!

Other Thoughts:

If you are heading south on the road to the school, pull in the first drive for the school and park back as near the playground as you can. You'll see baskets, but this is the back 9. Walk to the right along the back of the school 2-300yrds and, just past the volleyball courts, you'll find tee #1. This way, when you finish, you're at your car.

Also, a local has started selling a massive amount of discs, new and used, out of the back of his truck here on good weather days at #1's tee. He seems a nice dude, and well meaning, and was willing to deal and trade, so thats a big positive for helping to grow the sport and change attitudes on this course!

A lot of potential! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Clean, safe and fun. Very family friendly course. Good course for a new player or to take someone that has trouble with 300+ft holes. Has a lot of potential!

Cons:

Under construction. Tees pads are just grass (only a con because I prefer concrete or rubber) holes are all pretty short and straight forward. Needs more obstacles.

Other Thoughts:

Holes have begun being named. It's a fun easy course, good for staying warm and sharp in between big games. It's got construction going through about half if it, and the woods suck for thorns. It's on the property of a private Christian school but is public to play... Keep your hippie refreshments at home as grove city police are back there often and they are bored just as often. Let make sure this course has a proper up bringing! Take care of it and have fun!!!

Decent, basic, casual 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 10, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Situated in the spacious land surrounding the Grove City Church of the Nazarene, this 18 hole disc golf course circles clockwise to the right, along the wood line around the sports fields for the front nine, then left (counterclockwise) around the northern open space for the back. Using brand new DGA baskets, natural turf tees with toe boards and tee signs, the challenge is scaled to the casual to Recreational player, with all holes being relatively flat, mostly in the open, and all under 300 feet in length. Holes 10 and 11 just barely enter into the edge of the woods to provide the most interesting challenge.

The course plays fairly safely, because all baskets are visible ahead of you, and are separated from the other activities here. The course offers a decent activity for parents who've dropped the kids off for sports practice or at the playground.

Cons:

I took the liberty of drawing up a map because we weren't the only group out there trying to find the start of the 'other nine'. Once you have seen it on a map, the flow is mostly logical, even though the finish at hole 18 leaves you about 250 yards from where you probably parked by the practice basket and hole 1.

Hole distances marked on the tee signs appear to be accurate only on 6, 8, 11, 14 & 16. The distances entered for 'white tees' here on DGCR on 8/10/14 were paced out for a closer estimate. When the construction gets finished, it would be nice to see a more accurate number, and the signage updated.

Speaking of the construction, the practice basket, and holes 1 & 9 currently play in the dirt and gravel. And expect a lot of highway noise as you play holes 3 through 5.

There is little challenge here for the Intermediate player and above, all of whom can, and should deuce any given hole on the course.

If a newer player does get into the woods, they'll need to be mindful of thorns and poison ivy while searching for their disc

Other Thoughts:

Compliments to the folks who put this in: it's the only course southwest of Columbus, and handy off the highway at the Stringtown Road exit.
