Course with something for everyone 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 4, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

I wasn't sure what I would get when I pulled into the park for Grove City .The park itself looks to be well used , picnickers and kids everywhere . When you enter the park ( I missed this ) make sure you drive left as soon as you can and park to the left of the far left shelter houses . You will see a kiosk sticking out . Plenty of parking here . The baskets are Discatchers , used but in good shape . The signage is pretty good . No benches or trash bins , but not a big problem , as the first nine holes are so confined that you are near trash cans for your quick first 9 a lot . The tee pads a natural with toe boards . You will see these pretty easily . The course flows very easy , especially for the first 9 , typical community park style . Short easy holes that were put in much earlier than the back 9 . The front 9 can be used by advanced discers for approach shots and as an introduction to the game for newbies . You have to be a little careful in spots on the front 9 as many unsuspecting park patrons may either be inspecting the weird looking baskets or walking the fairway with the family dog . Just be careful . #9 is a good finishing hole for the front . Short , over a gully hyzer right , with trees and brush protecting the right of the basket . After pulling your disc out of the basket ( Hmmm , you may have wanted to park next to 9's basket and drove to 10 , you will see an off road to your far right which , after about 300 meters will take you to 10 , which will be sunken down to the right of the road . The back 9 of this course has a completely different feel to it . Longer throws , many more trees to contend with , much more thought and energy into it . Way more length . #17 is over 700' . Pin placements on the back 9 make you have to think and create more , but it is no way exhausting or undoable . Good players will still score well on the back . A fun round where the front 9 warms you up and the back 9 works you out . Signature hole : Maybe 18, an almost 400' throw to a slight left at the end .

Cons:

I took the course for what it was : the front 9 installed to introduce the locals to the game and let the kids play , and adding a back 9 to make in more competitive as your skills mature while drawing out of towners into the city to either bag a course , get a feel of Grove City ( nice small town ) or play your way towards I-79 or I-80 . There are just a few cons ( sorry , Grove City ) . #1 . foot traffic . This really only involves the front 9 . Be careful . The park is shared by all and most don't know better . #2 natural tee pads . I personally don't care for toe boarded natural tee pads . The hold water when used a lot and cause you to stand in wet grass to throw your first drive . Hopefully , someday , the park will budget for the addition of cement tee pads ? #3 for players that play a fair amount , the front 9 is pretty vanilla and short . You may have to just play the back 9 twice . #4 long and possibly confusing walks . Good long walk from 9-10 , 17-18 ( long pathway to the immediate right of 17 basket ) and 18 to where you parked. I don't mind the walks , but many do , so I want to put it out there . No water carries or traps , not much in the way of elevation .

Other Thoughts:

I didn't want anyone reading this to skip this course , especially after adding the cons . It looks as if the front 9 was added as part of a park project , then after it was well received , put some time and effort to add a more competitive back 9 . A great addition to Grove City . Good for travelers , great for the locals . Cement tees would really boost this course . My recommendation : Play it and enjoy a meal in the city !

Downpour Disc Golf 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 29, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Grove city is an 18 hole course split into two skill levels.

The front nine is a good place for beginners to play or learn the sport. Pretty open with little OB or changes in elevation.

The back 9 is meant for more seasoned players. It plays mostly through the dense woods of the park, and offers a more technical style.

Back 9 offers some fun holes through the woods. Hole 17 plays at over 700'.

Nice basic tee signs for every hole. Baskets catch very well.

Very good variety in terms of technicality and distance.

Pretty easy to navigate, just follow the tape on every basket. Parking is to the left of the big pavilion, near the pond.

Nice, friendly park setting without a whole lot of people.

Cons:

There is only one set of tees, and they are natural. Hopefully there are plans to set a more permanent option, and to add another set of tees.

Pedestrians weren't an issue when I played, but maybe it was just the time I chose.

There are a couple long walks between holes. 9 to 10 is 600', 17 to 18 is 450', and 18 to the parking lot is probably around 400'.

While the back nine was more challenging, it's easy to score low here. Another set of tees for advanced players could help.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, Grove City was a pretty fun course in the heart of town. Offers two different styles of play in one course, and I thought that was pretty cool!

Side Note: Right in the middle of my round, the skies decided to open up on me. Of course I finished, but I had to battle through downpour rains, strong wind, and occasional lightning. Definetly an exillerating experience when you nearly get hit by a falling branch after your drive :)

Nice park style course.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 1, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice course in a nice park. Front nine are typical. Back nine more technical and laid out nicely. More signs installed makes navigating course more easier than before.

Cons:

The front nine baskets have all been replaced and are at proper height now. Tee boxes were grass/mud. The front nine all you need is a mid & a putter.

Other Thoughts:

I drove an hour and 15 minutes to get to this course and wasn't disappointed. Nice course worth a drive.

Decent Small Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 18, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good course layout using as much of the small park as they could without getting in the way of other park users. Good signs and a nice mix of long and short holes using trees and other obstacles make for an interesting course.

Cons:

Very short course. First hole is a little hard to find. On a crowded day, the other people at the park could get in the way. It wasn't busy when I went so I can't say for sure.

Other Thoughts:

Wouldn't go out of my way too much to play this course, but if you are in the Grove City area this is a solid quick 9.

Nice Nine-Holer 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 20, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy to find course with a little variety. This is the first course I played with my own set of discs and I took my wife and kid with me to check it out. I liked that it was pretty wide open with a little variety of holes. The first requires a good hyzer, the second is tucked among some trees on a hill, the third requires a long anhyzer if you've got it, and the seventh, eighth, and ninth are good finishing holes.

The eighth is a nice hole that would be a bit nicer if the little stream/waterfall could have been incorporated. It's good scenery regardless.

The grass was cut to a good height everywhere, allowing for easy finding and retrieval of discs.

The park is easy to find, the holes are relatively close to one another, and there's a lot of parking throughout the park.

Cons:

The routing gets a little redundant during the fourth, fifth, and sixth holes as they go back and forth across some fields.

The second hole seems to be a popular hang-out spot, so you may find yourself skipping it or shooing some kids away temporarily so you can approach and putt out.

The first tee and ninth green could be slightly closer to one another, but c'mon, it's tough to complain about having to walk 150 yards. :D

Tees are wood chips and worn out a bit, so the "front" of the tee isn't clearly defined.

Other Thoughts:

I'll be back, every time I'm in Grove City, I hope. Nice little course, good beginner course, and yet still challenging to make a bunch of birdies since they're all par threes.

Good Quick Grove City Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 18, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The signage was great and was easy to tell how to get from hole to hole. The wood chip tee pads had been worn down so they were basically natural which had enough grip. This course will help you with your mid-range game but there are 2 or 3 holes where you get to drive it far and have an ace chance. It had some technical shots that I liked.

Cons:

The park started to get busy around noon time and we had to wait for people to walk through while playing. But it wasn't a huge deal.

Other Thoughts:

Even though it was only 9 holes it was a solid nine. It was nothing amazing or something to make a special trip for but if you are 10 to 20 minutes away I definitely suggest playing this course. With two people you can get through a round of 9 in 45 minutes which is nice for after school or work. The park is a very very nicely kept up park.

Nice Lite Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Well planned out to fit in the spaces provided
Nice tee markers
Nice Arrows pointing to the next tees which are not near by.
I like the way the baskets are not at the same height which adds a level of challenge

Cons:

Wood mulch tee boxes not so great stone or earth would have been better.

Other Thoughts:

cant wait to see if they get the go ahead for the back nine
