Ok PE course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays around the other athletic fields on the grounds of an elementary school. Though the area is pretty much wide open, the few holes that have trees available use them pretty well to add some challenge. For experienced players, using the blacktop and other sports fields as OB also makes for a more interesting round with some risk/reward decisions. There is a mix of hole lengths, with several under 300' and a couple longer holes where most players will reach for a driver.

Cons:

The course lacks a real identity. It's far too long for most elementary school players, it would be frustrating for many kids to start out taking several shots across open fields on every hole. At the same time, only a couple holes have enough length to challenge better players, and there aren't nearly enough obstacles to make it very interesting to those players. I wish the design had recognized the intended audience a little better, I think schools are a fantastic exposure point for disc golf and when you make the sport fun and approachable for the kids you're more likely to get them hooked.

A couple tee areas were either not defined, or the sign was surrounded by sloped areas that weren't very good for teeing off. There is lots of potential for conflict with other field uses, especially with newer less accurate throwers. The flow is very odd, holes 8 and 9 would have made more sense as holes 3 and 4, and either way there are some long awkward walks between holes.

Other Thoughts:

Like I said above, I really like seeing school courses. Getting our sport introduced to kids and their parents is a really positive way to grow the sport. Don't come here looking for much of a challenge. It's an ok beginner course, nothing more.

My rating reflects how this course stacks up to all other courses I've played in terms of how fun they are for me, a low rating doesn't mean I think it's a bad thing that an elementary school has a course tailored more toward children than toward adults (though I wish the course was even worse for me and even better for those kids).
