As Vanilla As It Gets

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

- all 9 baskets are present in decent shape (though a couple are crooked)
- navigation is pretty intuitive
- a small amount of elevation change included
- some interesting obstacles on hole 2
- tee signs are all generally intact

Cons:

- extremely short with virtually no challenge whatsoever
- tee signs are rudimentary and some have incorrect lengths
- baskets are very old and basic ChainStars
- tees are natural
- pitch and putt only; maybe 2 holes require more than a midrange
- virtually no amenities
- plays very close to the school
- hole 9 does not end near hole 1
- various safety hazards

Other Thoughts:

There's just about nothing to get excited about here. If you go to school at Hanna Beardsley, it may be cool to have a course here, although only the most basic beginner is going to enjoy it. For anyone else, this is a "check the box, I bagged it" course if you care about it and a waste of your time if not.

This course is almost entirely flat and wide open with most holes under 200', or even 150' in many cases. A midrange and putter are all you really need with 1 or 2 exceptions. There are some decent obstacles on hole 2, but that's about it. Hole 2 plays very close to a fairly busy road and is not ideal. Similarly, holes 6, 7 and 9 play pretty close to the track, with 7 throwing directly over it. This is not a very well designed course, but I don't know what more they could have done in this location other than just not build it. Plus, you probably shouldn't try to play it when school is in session anyway with how close it is to the building, so the safety hazards are less of an issue here. I can't imagine this course being anything other than deserted on weekends.

Hole 1 is to the right of the building if you are facing it, with the tee right up against the building. Hole 9 ends on the complete other side of the school after you wrap around the back. It's not a huge deal but definitely isn't ideal for parking. Holes 2, 8, and 9 incorporate some limited elevation change, but that's about the only positive you can pull out about the course design.

Overall, I'd skip this one unless you're a passionate bagger like me. There are better courses around, even if you only want to play 9 holes. Expect this one to take you barely over 20 minutes, maybe 30 at the absolute most.

Good for the school, bad for anyone else. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 26, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

If the middle school uses this for gym classes or a disc golf club to teach and grow the sport, then this course is worth it for the school.

Cons:

If you are not from the middle school skip this course an do not waste your time.

Other Thoughts:

Middle school rating - 3. Recreational player rating - 1.

Short and weird layout....even for a beginner 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 27, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Different elevation for many baskets. But....that is about it! This would be a good course to practice putts from different elevations. On Hole nine, you can actually stand above the hole and practice throwing at a basket that is below your feet.

Cons:

The course hugs tightly against the school and woods. There is really no designated tee area for any hole.....you just kinda look for the bare patches near the tee markers.

Other Thoughts:

If you are in the area and looking for a good course, do not waste your time coming here, you will be disappointed. Go to Randall Oaks Park instead.

Pros:

Its a course more designed for the kids who dont really have any experince with the game

Cons:

-The course is too short
-Poorly designed
-Hole is label incorrectly

Other Thoughts:

Like I said, this is a course more for the students. If you live far from this course, don't waste the gas in your car just to play a kids course.

Beginner 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 19, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Some minor elevation changes on some holes. One is a blind shot down a small hill.
- A few different shots can be used, but being able to throw it straight can be just as good.

Cons:

- Very, very short course. Holes as short as 107', I think, and another is around 143'. One or two holes let you do a normal shot, but otherwise it's practice.
- Water in play can easily flood. When I went two baskets were over dirty water, which was deep and murky.
- School building is in play on a lot of holes, as well as lots of pavement and a running track.
- Uneven dirt tees were tight and tough. A few pretty much demanded a standstill shot.

Other Thoughts:

- This course is very fitting for a middle school. Not much challenge, more of a headache for someone who plays regularly.

A course around a Middle School 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 3, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great for those just learning to play. About as good of use as you can get out of the available land. You can play at night. Holes 4 and 7 are near 300ft, both are slight anhyzer shots. Holes 1,2,5,6, and 8 I believe are 200ft or less and essentially dead straight. Wind is always a factor Especially Holes 3 and 4.
If your looking for an ace here is the place.

Cons:

Almost completely open. Longest hole is somewhere just above 300ft.

Other Thoughts:

Bring your putter and/or midrange. Any driver will make it too easy and not fun.
Easy to play alt. tees...be creative and it can be alot of fun. We commonly play forward then backward for a full 18. From 9's basket go to end of the sidewalk and throw back to 9. From there just play basket to basket.
