Hanscom combines factors unimaginable for most city park 9ers. Elevation, gaps, ceilings, risk/reward, you name it. Add to this tee signs to gauge your distance and turf tee pads and you have a full set of basic course amenities apart from benches. Even the baskets, while nondescript, are plenty serviceable and easy to see with the silver coat of paint. You'll be challenged and satisfied and probably want a second go-round.

Combining multiple challenges is the biggest strong suit of the course. Hole 1 has rising elevation, but a tree ceiling to get under. Hole 5 requires hitting a line, but also control to not go over the edge of the berm down to hole 6.

Elevation overall is superbly used, 1 and 3 are slowly uphill all the way, 4 and 7 are sharp downhills with ace potential (I hit metal on both) but also risk of going far too long or snagging an early tree, 8's basket is perched to the left about 10ft above the rest of the fairway up a small rise, and 9 is a blind basket over a rise.

Tree gaps and tunnels abound. Hole 2 has a left and right route that will need some good ground action to park the pin, Hole 5 has an obvious left gap but also a thin right side skip gap, just to add ontont he risk/reward factor, Hole 6 is the best-looking hole on the course, 75ft tall trees on your left and right, a fallen tree blocking the fairway to go over or under. Then Hole 7 is a tight tunnel (12ft wide, if that) with one solitary tree trunk set about 40ft in front of the pin. Some sort of short flex is nigh on required to get a birdie.

Replayability is very high with multiple routes on every hole except 3, 4, and 8, and with the distances being so reachable it encourages different styles if you go for a second playthrough.

It is possible for a disc to zip into the fairway of 6 from holes 2 and 5 due to it being in a small ravine between the two.

Blind baskets on 5, 6, 8, and 9 make a first-time playthrough a little more difficult than it should be. But that issue goes away after one round

While the lack of distance may be disappointing for some, I find that it adds the potential for more creative shots since most holes were well within my backhand range (FH dominant, here) and if there'd been a little more time I would have gone for a backhand only round.

If you're in Omaha, this is the course I would recommend above all others. The fun factor is off the charts. The challenges, while not extreme, vary greatly throughout the park. This gets my #1 spot of 9-Hole courses I've played thus far, and I believe it will retain that spot for a very long time.

The course is in a well-maintained park and makes good use of the wooded areas and elevation changes within the park. While the elevation changes aren't as extreme as a course like Hummel, they do come into play on a few holes, mainly if you are off the fairway. Hole 4 is a short downhill throw to the basket and is a good opportunity for an ace, even for a beginner. There are a few other good ace opportunities on the course as well.

The course flows fairly well and all of the tee pads are marked with nice signage so it's easy to get around. It's a perfect course if you just want to play a quick 9, you can easily get in and out within an hour even if you're playing slow.

The new turf tee pads were an excellent addition to the course, huge shout-out to the OMDGA volunteers for taking the time to put them in.

The course is very short and there aren't any "grip it and rip it" style holes, or longer holes that really make you fight through the woods for a par 4 or 5. I'm not sure how much space was available to the course designers, or how much will be available in the future if the course is expanded to a full 18 holes, so this is likely just due to the available space not allowing anything that long.

Only one tee pad/basket per hole (at least for now). There are some holes that would benefit greatly from multiple basket placements, as this could add more length or shot selection options.

If you're a beginner and want to work on your accuracy, or you just want to get out and play a quick 9 on a fairly quiet course, Hanscom is a great option. It's a relatively new course, so I'm sure there are changes and additions planned for it. There is a possibility of the course expanding to 18 holes, but this will likely be a few years down the road if it does happen.
