Pros:

Harrisburg Park is home to a great little beginner, pitch and putt course. Ace runs a plenty for almost anyone. The course is tucked all the way into the back of the park and plays in what apperaed to be a pretty much disc golf exclusive area. The occasional walker seems like it'd be you're only distraction.

The baskets are brand new Innova Discatcher pro 28's which are fantastic. Love these things. All are mounted nicely and they catch so good. One basket and pin position per hole.

Concrete tees on all holes. One tee per hole except hole 9 which had 2. These aren't the biggest tees but they're all you need for a course of this length. No complaints.

The course features a pretty solid mix of wooded and open for only being 9 holes. There's even some elevation and water in play. The course flows pretty well for the most part. The only hang up we had was walking to hole 9's tee after hole 6 which has been mentioned in other reviews. It took about a minute to reorient ourselves and get back on course so not too big of a deal.

Tee signs are nice. Pretty basic. No map but they feature hole #, distance and par. This is all you really need for a course of this type. Every basket is visible from the tee so a map isn't truly nnecessary anyway.

For being as short as it is, it has some pretty well designed holes. Holes 1 and 2 would seem like throwaway holes if they were flat. We both sadly took par on them since we ran the aces unsuccessfully. The elevation isn't drastic, but blowing past the basket and rollaways are likely.

Cons:

As has been mentioned in prior reviews, the course is ALLLLL the way in the back of the park. Literally drive as far into the park as you can go to find hole 1. If you have Udisc and bring up the map this is a non issue. Without it this might be tricky to find.

As I mentioned above, most people will end up walking to hole 9's short tee after playing hole 6. Not a major con, but it will be the tee pad you'll see after holing out and just assume that's where you're going.

The geese like the pond. The geese like to poop. Expect lots of little white landmines on the fairway of hole 9.

Other Thoughts:

Fun little course for what it is. I can't, and won't, recommend this course unless you happen to be in the area. For what it is, it's pretty nice. A 1 rating is defined as poor. This course isn't that. 1.5 is passable, that fits the bill in my opinion.

The course will take 15 to 20 minutes to play for most solo players. No replay value really so that's probably it's rating ceiling. Fun little course though.

Harrisburg Pitch and Putt

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 21, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Harrisburg Park was re-designed to better the community a few years ago, and along with that, we got ourselves a little disc golf course. I think this is a great addition, as this park is always full of little kids.
-This is a pitch and putt course and designed for beginners. The longest hole is 170 ft, and any player who has experience with this sport will only need a putter.
-I like the layout of the course. The designer did a good job of using the space given in the best possible way. The last 4 holes are played around a scenic area, which is the location for the area's farmers market.
-This is the perfect course for some ace runs. Every hole gives you a realistic opportunity for an ace, and if not, then every hole should be birdied.
-The course has some variety, with holes in and around wooded areas. There is also some good elevation change for this type of course.
-I like how there are water factors. This is great for helping beginners get used to throwing over/near water. #6 has a river that runs behind the basket, and #9 is a water carry across the pond.
-Course is in good shape, all tee pads are nice, and tee signs have hole numbers and distances.

Cons:

-The layout of the course isn't the best. #6 tee was tough to find, and I went to #9 tee after finishing #6 since it was the closest tee to the basket. Also, I feel like the walkway back to the parking lot is the perfect fairway for another hole.
-Hole maps would have been helpful. Without the next tee signs, I struggled to locate some of the tee pads. Also, a few holes have multiple baskets in sight, and it may be tough identifying which basket to throw to.
-The course is placed all the way in the back of the park. First timers might have trouble finding the course, but once you know where it is, you will be fine.

Other Thoughts:

A nice pitch and putt course is a good addition to this popular park. The park itself is also very nice, and along with the course, the park features multiple soccer/football fields, playground, splash pad, and a walking track. A great place to bring little kids and introduce them to the game.

For pitch and putt standards, this course is pretty nice. I rated it as a 1.0 because, well, it is a pitch and putt course after all, and because of the minor navigation/signage issues.

Harrisburg Park

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 22, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Harrisburg Park features a nine hole, beginner/pitch & putt course that has DISCatcher baskets, concrete tee pads, and nice tee signs. The tee signs all list hole number, distance, par, and the hole's sponsor. The course features a mixture of open and wooded holes. Some of the holes start in the open, and finish in the woods (and vise-versa). There is even an optional water carry if players choose to play from the long tee pad on Hole 9.

Experienced players aren't going to need anything more than a putter to score well here, but they will have a chance to run the ace on every single hole.

The course seemed well maintained and the last 4 holes were set in a scenic field with a small pond in the middle of it, creating an idyllic setting for the final few holes.

The park played host to plenty of other activities: mountain biking, picnic shelters, ball fields, playgrounds, a pool, a library, etc.

Cons:

The park is pretty massive and the course is tucked all the way into the back corner. Signs indicating how to navigate the park and find the course would have been nice. Being tucked away in the back corner also caused the course to have awkward flow. The first four holes play around one small field, the last four holes play around another small field, and Hole 5 connects the two areas. With a noticeable walk back to the start of the course.

The hole length, even for a beginner course, is pretty tiny. Hole one is less than 80' and plays downhill. At least some risk/reward went into the design of this hole as a missed ace run will sail even further down the hill.

The concrete tee pads were not built level. They often follow the slope of the ground they were built on. While not really an issue because every tee shot here can be thrown from a standstill, it was still noticeable.

Other Thoughts:

It has a little bit of everything and would be a great place for beginners to learn the game or for parents to teach their kids how to play. For most though, it is nothing more than a 9 hole, putter only, ace run challenge. Luckily, some of the holes have a bit of risk/reward. Hole 1, which is nothing more than a jump/step putt, if you miss the ace you are sailing down the hill.

Holes 6 through 9 were really stood out to me, for some reason I really enjoyed that stretch of golf.

UPDATE: After looking at other courses I've given similar ratings, I am slightly bumping the rating I gave Harrisburg Park up to a 1.5 rating. The fact that the course has concrete tees, finishes with memorable holes from 6 through 9, and the general upkeep of the course are large contributing factors to this decision. It is a strong beginner course, but not much more than that.

Stuffed all the way in the back 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 13, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

A large spacious park with a small 9-hole course squeezed in the far back. Hey, at least the tee pads have been poured.
- This is a beginner level course, nothing more than that. Nine holes totaling less than 1,200 feet with the longest hole listed (based on UDisc's info) at 177 feet. I carried two putters, which was more than enough.
- Variety? I mean when you have wide open holes such as 1 & 2, then you have wooded holes (#4 & 5), boom. Variety! Plus, there is some (relatively) decent elevation variances.
- Lots of ace runs. On back to back holes, I had discs sail directly overtop of the basket. Had several others land in gimmie-range. If you want an ego boost, great course for that.
- There are several scenic layouts. First off, the course backs up to a rail road track. I was throwing on #4 when a train was passing by. Yes, I did think about throwing a disc at it.
- The best scenery is around the creek with holes #6 - 9. #6 has you throwing over a pedestrian bridge to a basket alongside the creek. Side note: the creek is less than a foot deep so no concern about a lost disc. Then #9 plays parallel to the creek. Throw in some old looking buildings, and this has a quaint, peaceful aura.
- There's a neighborhood that butts up to #7. If you lived here, you'd be walking down here all the time practicing putts and approaches.
- Concrete pads are already installed.
- Nice overall park. With the amount of ball fields, I suspect this parking lot could be packed on some weekends.

Cons:

Layout/flow could be improved.
- The biggest issue, which I'm chalking up to 'new course' problems is the lack of signage. No tee signs, no next tee signs, nothing. Without the UDisc map, it actually would have been a challenge throwing from the correct tee for all 9 holes. I had the map, and I still played out of order, going from #6 to 9 based simply on locale.
- In the woods around holes #3 - 6 is a bike trail. Without signs, and UDisc's slowness, I walked down one of the paths wondering where the tee pad was, only to discover I was on a bike trail 30 feet from the pad. Granted there were trees and underbrush between us.
- The layout is a little quirky. The first basket you see next to the parking lot is #3. You throw slightly downhill on #1. Then the baskets for #2 & 3 are pretty close together. After finishing #2, you essentially walk backwards, down most of #3's fairway to turn right back around. I already mentioned the close proximity of #6 & 9. Then, after finishing the round, you walk past holes/baskets for #6 - 2 to get back to the parking lot.
- Holes #7 & 8 play alongside (in?) an area that's designated as the town's farmer's market. That might make these holes unplayable on some weekends.

Other Thoughts:

Harrisburg Park clearly wanted to have a course. When a sub-1200 foot layout feels cramped, maybe that's a bad sign? No?
- For as simple as the layout is, there was a enough random factors to add a pinch of challenge. On #2, my tee shot, and subsequent cubby throw, both hit the side of the hill near the basket. And both ended up rolling 30-40 feet away from the basket. My second throw on #1 caught a gust of wind, and combined with the downhill slope, seemingly left me just as far from the basket as when I was standing on the tee. It's an 86-foot hole.
- This will be an excellent course for an ace race. Make a run at every basket from every tee. Because, in the end, you'll remember your round more if you have 1 ace and 8 pars due to tee shots sailing 40 feet past than you will with 9 birdies because you aimed for circle one putts off the tee.
- Excellent course for beginners and kids. If you can only throw 125 - 150 feet, you're looking at possible birdie chances on every hole but #7. In that regard, this course is a success.
- On the whole, it's just another basic, pitch-n-putt course. It's not even as challenging as Dorton Park, which seems to get flack for it's sub 100-foot hole. Well, this course has two of those holes.
- It seems a lot like one of the York or Lancaster counties school courses, including, wait for it….Harrisburg Elementary. It's a perfectly suitable 1.0 rated course, assuming, the course ever gets signage. If not, the rating is getting cut in half.
