Not Crude at All!. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 24, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course in Oil City at Hasson Park weaves itself around the openness within the front none before moving to the wooded back nine.

The holes at Oil City are well designed, with many holes providing a tough challenge that also can be rewarded with well executed shots.

The Gateway Titans are unlike what you usually see in the area, but they caught well and were actually pretty easy to see even through the dense woods.

Navigation was a breeze, and if there was a longer walk in between holes, there was most definitely a sign pointing you towards the next hole.

There was a wide variety of shots needed, with many different twists and turns, as well as obstacles to keep you on your toes.

The tee signs were informative with a descriptive map with distance and par, and they were full color.

The park itself was well-groomed. Fairways were trimmed, the rough was not completely overgrown, overall a very nice park.

Cons:

I am not a huge fan of rubber tee pads, actually, quite frankly I hate them. These were some of the nicest I have dealt with, but I still often slipped off of them as they were slightly damp and covered with leaves.

There was only one tee per hole, which was fine for me, because it fit my relative skill level, but they would be too short for a pro style golfer, and some newbies might find them a tad bit challenging.

There were quite a few long walks between holes, and although navigation was easy, I don't like walking that much when it comes to getting to a next hole. I got my exercise in for sure.

A couple of the holes played close to one another, as well as close to other park activities, which could cause a few problems if the park were to be busy. I was the only one on the course today, so I don't know for sure, but just a heads up.

There were a lot of solid holes, but nothing really wowed me. The par 5's were must get 4's, and there were no jaw dropping views. I don't know why I always expect this, but I'm spoiled, so I guess it's a con.

Other Thoughts:

The course in Oil City is a very solid park-style layout. Although it may be out of the way from, well, almost everything, it is most certainly worth a visit if you have the time. I will most likely be back within the next couple of years, and I hope to see it grow into a bigger and better course, with the hopes of a potential club in the Oil City area!

Nice course to play. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course will test all your shots and force you to throw a wide variety of you discs. Basket placement is very nice on this course. Some shots require pin-point accuracy while others you can really bomb out there.

Cons:

This course can really use a maintenance overhaul. The grass can be really high but the way the course is laid out I can see why grass maintenance can be an issue. Playing back and forth over creeks and different sections of the park are probably why. I think the bigger issue are all the dead branches hanging in the trees. On hole #1 a tree or branch must have fell cause the basket is all bent up. On hole #14 rain washed a big culvert out of the fairway/path being on a hill. The way the course is laid out it makes you backtrack on some holes to get to the next tee box.

Other Thoughts:

From a non disc golfers perspective I bet this park was a really happening place 20 to 30 years ago. Now I know some may say what does this have to do with disc golf but hear me out. Throughout the park their are noticible things (ex.) moss covered sidewalks, overgrown fire pits, etc... this is why courses start to get neglected. When the people stop coming, the funding starts getting cut too which in turn affect the quality of the course. Overall this is a really nice course that's worth visiting. I drove for 2 hours to play this course and wasn't disappointed. I feel that if the maintenance to this course was addressed that this course would deserve a higher rating than 3.

Nice layout but needs work 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very challenging, nice mix of open and tight wooded holes with lots of elevation changes. Adequate signage and most tee boxes in good condition. Nice baskets with multiple pin positions. Some pin positions present serious risk/reward choices!

Cons:

The course needs steps and level paths along fairways that are on the sides of ravines.
Course maintenance/bad neighbors - my dad and decided that Hasson is a Delaware Indian word that means "path strewn with broken glass." I mean everywhere, especially on the wooded holes. Not pleasant to navigate while wearing Vibram FiveFingers (as I was).

Other Thoughts:

The course is only a year old so there is plenty of time to improve it and it will wear in. I like the layout and the terrain, it just needs to be landscaped a bit to allow non-billy-goats to navigate it safely. Add those steps (and put a pin placement indicator on the tee signs) and it would get at least another half-disc added to the rating.

Really! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 1, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The only pro I have for this course is it is only eight miles from my home.

Cons:

Insufficient signage. There are some directional signs here and there, but adding some numbers to them would be better. Also there are tall posts at each tee, but no numbers on them to identify them. Lastly holes 4 & 6 are going to leave someone with a serious injury, because of the extreme grade on which you are expected to make a throw.

Other Thoughts:

Made up my own scorecard based on footage and pars listed on this website only to find printed scorecards at the course. The footage and pars did not match though. The footage increased by 261 total feet, but the par decreased from 68 to 63. Hole number 15 is listed as a par 5 with a footage of 472. The basket had been moved an additional 150 feet from where it was when we played earlier. Can someone please verify which scorecard is to be used.
