Hays Park Is The Prettiest Of Spokane Neighborhood Parks! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Hays Park is only a city block wide but maybe four blocks long. It houses a playground but not much else. The park is flat, very pretty and has all these mature trees scattered evenly around. It's lovely and possesses this beautiful relaxed vibe. It could easily fit a nine hole course here and still not change the park's zen rating.

The Hays Park - Junior DGC in one of five junior disc golf courses in Spokane along with the two in nearby Cheney. All seven courses have the same great signs and heavy duty Mach Series baskets. The parks are all similar typical city neighborhood parks with scattered mature trees and lovely maintained grounds.

And like the other courses, Hays Park shows little to no evidence that any disc golf has been played there. I did leave an old battered disc in one of the baskets. So maybe?

The three holes course starts with a tee pad - tee sign in the middle of the park. The basket sits 216' away and is canopied by the branches of a large tree. A roller might work best here but what beginner has a roller in his bag of tricks.

# 2 is another tunnel shot only shorter at 173'.

And # 3 is the longest hole I've encountered on any of these junior courses at 270'. It's straight and wide open.

Cons:

Cons. Three holes. No tee pads. Very little challenge. Blah, blah, blah.

I'm not sure about the design here either. It I were trying to lay out three holes as an introduction to beginners and younger players, I don't think I would include two tunnel shots and a 270' wide open hole. I think I would probably use a tree or two for obstacles and limit my longest hole to, maybe 150'.

Other Thoughts:

Either way, as this is such a lovely, relaxing park, it was just a pleasure to spend my short amount of time here on here on this beautiful, sunny Spokane 85 degree day.
