Classic Park Style, With a Few Unique Twists 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 29, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Hedges Boyer is a beautiful Tiffin park with all the bells and whistles a quality recreation park has. Swimming pool, basketball, tennis, baseball, trails, etc. The park is set among some gently rolling hills, patchy woodland, and a large creek winding right through the middle. The park itself is pretty huge.

+ This is a classic park course. Not really too difficult, but not overly easy either. Most holes play through some scattered trees near ballfields and such.

+ There's a few pretty sweet holes here at Hedges Boyer. #11 and #14 were my favorites. #11 is under 200' playing at less than 100'. It's off of a steep hill, and a soft putter toss will get you to the pin. Wind will always be a challenge, and a strong tailwind could sail your disc into the bottomless pit of water behind the basket. Makes you think before you throw. #14 Is a huge risk-reward hole. A strong anhyzer over the creek will leave you in great position to birdie the par 4, but if you don't get enough flip, you'll lose the disc guaranteed. A safe play will likely get you your par.

+ Two sets of concrete tees on several holes. It's a fun place for beginners and advanced players alike.

+ Tee signs are very descriptive, and would be ideal for any course out there. DISCatcher baskets are in great shape. Each basket has colored tape on it to guide you to the next hole. Navigation was never an issue.

Cons:

- Most advanced players will have no problem shooting under par, even from the blue tees. I play in intermediate for tourneys, and I shot even par for the course (under par if it wasn't for an errant approach on #17).

- Holes 15-18 were a little bland and forgettable. 15 makes you walk all the way back up it's fairway to get to 16.

- 17 was a little dangerous due to activities at the pavilion. I had to use a putter off the tee to avoid injury or damage to property.

- There's a few tee areas with low hanging branches and limbs that should be removed. #11 long had some twigs that need to be cut.

- Pedestrians could be an issue due to the amount of traffic this park gets. It was really busy on a cold spring morning, so I expect it to get even busier during warmer months.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, Hedges Boyer was designed really well. There's some unique twists hidden within this fun, classic park course.

Fun Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 12, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Never really busy
-Well cut fairways
-Good amount of elevation
-Good mix of wooded and open holes
-Multiple Tees
-Nice baskets
-Lots of things to do at the park afterwards (Beach volleyball, pool, basketball, etc.)

Cons:

-While all the holes are good, none of them stand out as absolutely amazing holes.
-Long walks between a few holes

Other Thoughts:

Basically what I was saying with my first con is; this course does not really have a signature hole. That being said though, this course has a lot of fun holes, but none of them stand out as "wow!"

Hole 5 has a very steep drop-off afterwards, and if you overshoot the hole, your disc will be at the bottom of a 70 foot hill, that is very steep and difficult to climb back up. (Just keep this in mind before you throw). This isn't a pro or con, because it can be a nuisance to overshoot, but it adds a challenge and makes it one of my "fun holes."

Pros:

-Most holes are open
-Some holes are short and others long good for practicing close shots and letting one fly
-Good mix of RH holes and LH holes
-Hole-to-hole mapped out nicely
-Concrete throwing surfaces
-Beautiful park with other things to do

Cons:

-Hole 18 is not close to hole one so a little walk to parking lot

Other Thoughts:

Overall this is a fantastic course. I live near Tiffin, so I get to play this course often. I have been playing for 4 years and have only played about 6 different courses and I would rate this among the top of courses I have played.

A pleasant suprise 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 31, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Nice cement tees
-Good mix tight wooded and open holes
-Nice Use of elevation
-Informative tee signs
-Bathrooms (port-a-potties) and drinking fountains made plentiful throughout the course
-Very well kept.

Cons:

-Other park goers can be dangerously close to fairways
-Long walk from hole 9 to tee 10
-long walk from 18 to parking
-Not closer to where I live

Other Thoughts:

This course could be better but any of the cons here are just nit picking. Its not a perfect course but it is very well maintained in a park that has everything including disc golf!

It starts off pretty mondain and flat for about 5 holes, then you go down in the woods for the next 4 where I thought there were a lot of technical, wooded mid range shots that play with elevation changes. From there you walk for a ways around the pool to start 10 and once again have some nice elevation changes and trees just enough to ruin your ace.

Around hole 15 or 16 it gets flat again and the trees begin to be reduced and hole 17 plays with a pavillion pretty close to a danger zone for a slightly griplocked throw but just use restraint if you see people there.

Overall I love this course! It kind of puts me in mind of an easier Roscoe Ewing which is a lot better for my fiance and kids who struggle a lot, or not to mention my bad days. I just wish it was closer. Every town should be so lucky to have a park like this.

If you are in the area or passing through (like I was) this is a must stop!

Updated Hedges DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 18, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Newly constructed, concrete tee pads.

-Multiple tees on several holes.

-Nice mixture of open vs. wooded holes.

-Some unique hole layouts including #5, #6, #8, #11, #12 and #14.

Cons:

-Course can be hard to navigate if playing for the first time, you must walk across the bridge after #13 to get to the back 5 holes that seem to be segregated from the rest of the course.

-#18 ends rather far from the first tee and parking areas, but is never a big deal to me as you can enjoy a walk along the creek.

Other Thoughts:

Having returned to this course recently after about two years, I was pleasantly surprised to find freshly constructed, concrete tee pads as well as a few new hole layouts.

Hole #5 has changed in that it is no longer a straight shot off the tee. The hole now plays shorter but the tees are tucked against the woods and plays to a left-to-right disc flight, into a neatly tucked away basket.

The old #8 that is listed on the course map no longer exists and it has replaced the old #9 which includes an uphill shot to a low tree branch-guarded basket. The new #9 has replaced the '9-to-10' hole, which was originally meant as a buffer between the walk from 9 to 10.

Hole #11, although requiring a trek up the hill after #10, displays a beautiful elevated tee looking down toward the creek and landing area. My favorite hole to play.

Hole #17 plays much longer than I remember, with the front tees at 387 ft. and the back tees at 624 ft.

After recently playing this course I took it upon myself to update the hole lengths and par as the course has listed on the tee signs.
These differ from the course map, but after reading several reviews that the course plays rather easy to its par, I felt the par score on the tee signs made it much more difficult to score low.

Previous Reviews 2+ years

Pros:

The course in in an excellent city park. The holes are a good distance apart with almost no conflicting fairways. Lots of players enjoying the course. Challenging pro tees. Easy course to learn on. Very easy to navigate. Concrete tee pads. Newly designed.

Cons:

Some holes have a lackluster look. A lot of easy shots from the am tees. People can sometimes be in the way. Cars often park on fairways during football season

Other Thoughts:

I would advise checking the course out for yourself. I participate in a summer league at tiffin on thursdays nights. It is a nice course and has been redesigned since the other reviews so their descriptions won't be as acurate as you'd like. Plus I am a little biased towards the course. Is it the best I've played..No...Is it worth playing. Yes and frequently at that.
