Very fun variety 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

They added some variety to holes to make them fun. Great signs. Good tee pads and baskets. They used the creek well and some real good distances.

Cons:

Pretty flat so they added variety to make up for it.

Other Thoughts:

I really liked this course. I do think the woods they used for 17 they should have used for 2 holes so there would have been 2 wooded holes but still fun

meh 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 5, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Map near the parking lot and hole 1
tee signs are nice and big with a map of the hole
Nice big cement tee pads
The park is pretty open, the course has some add features and uses what obstacles there are to make it interesting.

Cons:

short open holes and long open holes

Other Thoughts:

Locals play across the creek from the basket OB and sidewalks and across OB. This adds some to several of the holes.

Hole 5 has a man made obstacle, telephone polls with wire mesh making you either throw straight at the hole or over the top.
Hole 6 is a man made island hole. Land in the gravel and you have a putt.

Hole 8's basket in in a big rock. And it is near the OB creek.

Wind is a factor out here.

Holes 17 and 18 make use of old fence lines. Rows of trees. 17 is a tunnel shot down the row and then 18 throws though the first row, across a field into the middle of another row of tree.

I played doubles out here with the locals, winners shot more than 10 down if that tells you anything.

you can get into OB trouble, but it is not that hard of a course.

Another good local course for Wacoans 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 20, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Overall, Hewitt Park is a nice neighborhood park disc golf course.

Navigation is good - the next tee or fairway is rarely more than 100 feet from the previous basket.

The Waco DGA has spoiled this course with a ton of obstacles and elevated pins; these obstacles take a 2.5-disc terrain and turn it into a 3-disc playing experience. Some of the special highlights include the totem poles on 4 and a 30-foot rock circle on 5. Land in the circle or re-tee.

The park is mixed-use, but other than a running trail across the first six holes the disc golf is largely segregated.

The course starts out fairly short but really opens up in the end with a handful of true par 4's. The length provides a nice contrast to the shorter holes of Cameron Park, the main disc golf attraction in town.

Cons:

Over a third of the holes play along or across a drainage creek that's a bit too wide to jump. There are a few very strategically placed bridges, but the bridges don't help when your drive lands in the mud. I recommend a bad pair of shoes.

I mentioned it earlier - 2.5 disc terrain. Most of the course is on a very bland plain with only occasional quirks. While the course capitalizes on a ton of these quirks, John Houck style, there are still a couple of "throw a disc straight ahead in an open field" holes.

At least four of the holes have subdivisions off the side of the fairway. From my anecdotal experience, the neighbors aren't the friendliest people.

The course gets very windy in the afternoon.

Other Thoughts:

Waco has always been a surprisingly rich area for disc golf, and Hewitt Park only adds to that reputation. As a Recreational player, I find this course really fun to play. More experienced players will probably find the course easy and open.

Last updated on 4/28/2015. I raised my rating from 2.5 to 3.0 due to the addition of bridges across the creek and man-made obstacles.
