Tulsa's best southside course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 4, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good intermediate to advanced level player course. Logical flow. Decent signage for the most part, Unlike most Tulsa courses, has a good albeit not extreme degree of elevation to it, as well as a good balance of wooded and open shots. The woodsy up and down Hole 2 is probably my favorite hole in town. The big appeal at Hunter are several holes which straddle the park's creek often tempting you to put your disc over the water to park for a birdie. Accuracy here is key. Hole 12 is especially challenging.

Cons:

A few flow problems concerning the aforementioned creek. Two times on the course you have to cross this without the aid of a bridge. There are some stepping stones in the creek, but these may not be usable if the water is up. The area around these holes is somewhat eroded and can get muddy. Even on a weekday, with all the dog people and walkers, this park is BUSY. While a reasonably good job is done segregating the course from other amenities at Hunter, this is still a multi-use park, so watch for pedestrians using the sidewalk along hole 14 and vehicles entering and exiting the park.

Other Thoughts:

My favorite Tulsa course. Recently reconfigured with some new pins, mandos, and an entirely new Hole 18 (a dog park now sits where the old one did), this next to Blackhawk, is the best play in town for players looking for something a bit meatier than most of the standard fare rec courses in the area. Might want to bring a retrieving device and some shoes you don't mind getting dirty. Highly recommended if you're in town.

Fun Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 13, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Nice Course, with a variety of challenges.
- Nice Baskets & Tee pads.
- Would be a fun course to take beginners.

Cons:

- Signs on some holes, but distances aren't accurate.
- Between holes 6-7 and 12-13 you have to cross a creek. There is no bridge just a few stones to step on. Wasn't too much of a problem when I played but it hadn't rained in a few weeks. I could see this as a big problem if it had rained recently. Seems like a poor design to me.

Other Thoughts:

- Really enjoyed this course. Layout was really neat except for the above mentioned. New and accurate signs would really make this a top notch course in the area.

one of the toughest I have played! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 29, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

- lots of different shots.
- partially wooded and partially wide open. there are also some holes where the water come into play.
- well maintained.
- Nice concrete pads.
- mostly easy to navigate.
- alternate pads and pin placements.
- fairly nice signage. could have used something at the start of the course to get us going, but otherwise it was good.

Cons:

- It was hard to find 2 when we played. If you've never been there before, snag a local and make them navigate it for you!
- not a lot of variety in length. mostly 300 ish holes with different lines.
- crowded in the park when we played and could have been very dangerous as the course runs by the playground, basketball courts, and over the road!
- no "signature hole". nothing that really jumps out as me as a reason to go back to this course or reason to recommend it to others. It was a good course, but I wouldn't go further than that.

Other Thoughts:

-Good course overall. It was about 48957348957 degrees when we played, so bring some water!
- could use some benches out on this course. there were a couple of times when we were standing around waiting on the next group. sitting would have been nice!

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 20, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very Challenging. Lots of changes. Most of the changes are basket locations and Mandos, some teebox changes.

Cons:

Many changes. It plays very different if you haven't been in awhile.

Other Thoughts:

The course has changed a ton. Only a couple of holes play the same.

Pros:

Very solid course in Tulsa that's well worth the trip. Excellent mix of shots and terrain. Good use of woods available. Good baskets.

Cons:

If it's raining or wet, I imagine crossing the creek twice would get annoying if the water is up.

Other Thoughts:

Excellent course in a busy park that has other activities available. Bring your sneakers for a game of basketball before or after.

Hunter 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 27, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great design that takes advantage of all the terrain (woods, open, water). Need a variety of shots to do well. Good course for technical and big arm players.

Cons:

Some signs are missing or fallen. Crossing the creek can be trouble some if you don't have the best balance or if the water is high. In the fall there a ton of leaves on the ground in the wooded parts which makes losing a disc very possible.

Other Thoughts:

This course can either leaving you feeling great at the end of the day or make you feel like throwing all your discs away.

watch out for the swamp 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 7, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

clean well maintained. all the holes are challenging for all skill levels

Cons:

creeks are very murky. the marsh on hole 17 is a potential disc loosing hazard. winter time is not that bad because the park service has cut back all of the brush. summer time is horrible because the cat tails and brush is very thick and the ground is like mush. inexperienced player that don't have much distance should play safe. it takes about 270 make it safely over the marsh.

challenging, varietal 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 6, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Easy to navigate once you find it, well marked with informative signs.
- Good cement tees.
- Well maintained, clean, short grass.
- Long, tough with many tough par 3's and a few par 4's/not many easy gimme holes.
- Lots of variety of types of shots and land.
-OB hazards.

Cons:

-Some poison ivy in play, bad where it is but not that widespread, entirely avoidable -watch out walking from #4-#5 though!
-The water hazard is gross, sometimes deep enough to keep your disc unless you feel like taking your pants off.
-It was hard to find the 1st hole.

Other Thoughts:

Course is popular and busy, don't expect to not get held up by a group or two.

tee pads in good shape and marked very well, one of the more challenging courses in the area... Baskets are sturdy and also in very good shape

Cons:

easy to loose discs in creek on 5,6,10,11 and 12 so bring a towel but you definately wont need a boat like the other guy said... a couple bridges across the creek would really help the experience

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 8, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Decent Course that throws a lot at you, it does not have many holes that are that good a drive but have plenty of obstacles so accuracy is a must

Cons:

You play along a creek for about 10 holes that makes it a touch difficult, if playing this course bring boots or a boat. There are no bridges to cross the creek at points in which it is mandatory.

Other Thoughts:

Quick improvement could be made by placing better signs at the tees and springing a few bucks for a bridge or two

Hunter 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 8, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Course is a decent challenge, this was my first time playing but i still had a lot of fun. Nice open park with good scenery and really diverse holes. Experienced players will enjoy the challenge.

Cons:

Course isn't marked very well and it's easy to get lost halfway through. You have to cross a creek a couple of times with no bridge so you need to be limber. Creek will also be along or behind most holes which will cause many problems if you throw a disc in.

Other Thoughts:

Course is a great challenge. Thrown tons of discs into the creek when I was new so it's easy to lose them. Course has some nice drives and is overall decent but some better markings and a bridge or two would really add to its fun.
