This is a great course beautifully constructed on a ski hill. The course has a great mix of long, open holes and tight, wooded holes. There are concrete tees and signs on all the holes and a few have multiple tee and pin positions. The tee signs could be more descriptive, as they're pretty generic and don't really give a good feel for the lay of the hole, but all in all not bad.
Pretty much all the holes have some sort of elevation changes, offering up a nice challenge. Most of the holes are pretty wide open but with the elevation changes, roll-aways can be punishing. The wooded holes are tight and the woods can get thick. There are a decent amount of man-made obstacles that come into play on the open holes. Ski lifts, snow machines, etc., but rather than being an inconvenience they just add a bit more of a challenge.
The mix of open and wooded holes is great and all the elevation changes makes this course a bit of a workout. There are some O.B. chances with the walking trails. Most of the walking trails are gravel or dirt, so they can be played as in or out depending on the players choice. If played with all trails O.B., this course is quite difficult. Walkers and hikers can occasionally cross fairways, but it's not a very big concern for the most part.
There is a small pro shop and cafe in the ski chalet. The course is pay to play, at $5 a day, but well worth it. There is also a small 9 hole course built on the same ski hill, it's mostly just a pitch an putt but a nice contrast to the big 18.
This course is lots of fun, and with the 9 hole course, walking trails, and other amenities has a very high replay value. The elevation changes will give a nice leg workout, but the enjoyment of the layout far out-weigh the strain.

Long holes to let loose on, great scenery, the 18th hole is from the top of the ski hill to the bottom... who wouldn't want to throw from there! shop on site, immaculate upkeep.

it's on a ski hill and can be taxing, pay to play

To start, it's a pay to play but worth it. It's clean and maintained very well. They do a nice job using the slopes and going around the permanent ski equipment. The chalet is really nice to have there. Get a drink/food and rent and buy a disc.
The full 18 can kick your butt. Up hill, downhill to the left & right, wide open and tunneling shots.
The fatigue factor is high and can drain you. Bring plenty of fluids to keep you going or break in the chalet after the first 9 going back out to the back nine. The up and down of the final 9 is the brutal part and is really fun to unload on 18.

It is a combination ski in winter and disc in summer so the hills are fairly open which makes it a bit to wide open sometimes but not really that bad. 3&4 are a little tricky walking.

Go play it this summer!

The course is very well maintained and has a variety of challenging holes. Like every other Three Rivers course, the tee pads are in great condition and there are quality signs for distance and navigation. There are plenty of holes out in the open, both up, down, and across the ski hills. The elevation change and length of this course certainly makes it very interesting to play. Holes 2, 10, 13, 14, and 15 all play uphill. Hole 10 is one of the toughest holes up the hill and into the woods, with a deep pin location. Downhill shots on 11, 16, and 18. There are also several holes in the woods that offer a nice change of pace. Make sure you stay in the fairway on 6, otherwise you'll end up with some very tough shots out of the woods/brush. Lastly, there are also several roll away pins, including Holes 2, 7, 10, 11, and 13.

The course is not as well maintained as Bryant Lake and Elm Creek and is lacking some of the nice landscaping and erosion control that both of those courses offer. Some of the holes in the woods, like hole 6, could also use some brush trimming to create better shooting lanes. Also, some of the holes playing out in the open are somewhat boring and lack very few obstacles to contend with.

Be ready to walk a lot! Hole 16 and 18 have awesome views of the Minneapolis skyline from the top of the hill. The length, elevation changes, and roll-away pins, really make Hyland a challenging course. Overall, the course is the most challenging of the 3 Three Rivers Park District courses and is definitely worth a look, especially if you have a season pass.

Worth checking out if your in the area.

- Course is set on the side of a large hill that doubles as a downhill ski area in the winter. Also a popular spot for hiking and cross-training, but people seem to be aware. Shouldn't be any major interference.
- The large hillside is used very well here on many holes, in many different ways. There are some of the more wide open shots, like a slight uphill on #1, across the hill on #2, a fun little donwhill on #9, an uphill valley shot on #12, a very steep uphill on #14, another steep uphill on #17, and a very downhill bomber on #18. For the most part, these holes are quite open, but are still either very tough or very fun based on the slope.
- Some other holes have a combination of sloping land and woods, to add to the fun. #3 is a steep uphill with woods on the right, #5 is on top of the hill with a slight uphill, and a long basket position that is around and past a clump of woods on another hilltop. #7 is a little downhill shot with some trees behind and right, #8 is a blind anny around some nasty woods, #10 is an uphill shot with a long pin position even more up and deep in the woods (tough location). #11 is a downhill hyzer with the basket in the woods, all of these holes need good accuracy to reach the basket.
- A few more holes are in thicker woods, with much tighter lines. #6 is a wooded RHBh flex shot, slightly downhill, that has a tight hyzer finish down into some woods. #15 is a downhill hyzer into a small gap, and #16 is a very tight, pretty steep downhill hyzer through an even smaller window. These holes will severely punish an errant shot, but are fun if you make the line!
- Some very precarious basket locations, due to the sloping terrain as well as some placements inside the woods. Landing in the right spot, and at the right angle, is very important to avoid racking up strokes.
- Nice pads, signs, and baskets. Wind flags on baskets as well. Navigation is pretty straightforward, except for the little backtracks to get to #6 and #14. The map is helpful the first time through. Practice basket is kind of hidden behind the lodge.

- Some of the holes are wide open, so distance and grade is the only real challenge here. It is still fun, but not super exciting.
- There are a lot of man-made pieces of equipment to avoid, such as ski lifts, light posts, and other typical ski slope items. Not a big deal, definitely nit-picking with that.
- Might be a little hyzer heavy, with a few anny lines on the shorter holes.

- This is a very fun course! A good balance of open and wooded holes, long and short, with elevation changes to spare. There's uphill and downhill bombers, uphill and downhill birdie chances, some very tight wooded holes and some nasty rough to deal with. Might be a bit much for beginners, but maybe not. Everyone else should definitely enjoy a round here.

The course plays on a ski hill, with elevation as the major factor on many holes. Most holes play on the ski runs, with tree lines and ski lifts coming into play as obstacles. A handful of holes play more technical with more trees and brush in play forcing you to hit tighter lines. You'll really need to focus on shot placement here, with rollaway potential on most holes and a dearth of flat landing zones. There is an excellent mix of uphill and downhill holes, along with some tricky shots across the slopes where it's easy to fade or roll down the hill if your shot doesn't do exactly what you intend. The finishing hole is an excellent top of the world shot: open enough to air it out but a few obstacles to keep you honest including a tree line to the left where RHBH shots could potentially fade out. On a day where the course isn't crowded you'll definitely want to empty your bag.

I was pleasantly surprised by the conditions here. Most ski hill courses end up overgrown, this one was nicely mowed and the wooded areas were fairly clear of brush and dead sticks etc. on the fairways. There are nice roomy concrete pads, another big plus you don't often see on this type of course. The chalet has nice bathrooms, and you can get snacks, discs and drinks at the little shop inside. The course loops back to the bottom halfway through.

Navigation is an issue at times, even with the course map provided at the ski shop. There are some long walks that aren't really obvious, a handful of next tee signs would go a long way. The tee signs aren't always that descriptive, you might have to walk ahead to look at the few blind shots.

I love elevation shots, but as fun as they are this course still gets a bit repetitive. Too many of the holes are pretty open, a few more shots in the wooded areas of the property would make it a much more well rounded course.

Beginners can have a good time here, but it'll be a long day. There is a good amount of distance, and the wooded holes have enough brush to really punish errant shots. Inaccurate throwers will end up with long comeback shots on the big hills. More experienced players will find some fun shot placement challenges, and the wind on the open hills will really test disc choice and punish poor execution.

If you're not in great shape or have mobility problems, this course isn't for you. It's a long walk with lots of hills, and you'll often be throwing from awkward stances.

Really not too many cons:
~Skiing equipment in the way, not to a horrible extent. But not necessarily a con, more a neusance
~A lot of up, down, uuuuuppppp, dooooowwwwwnnnnn. Bring your hiking shoes.
~GNATS. Inhaled about 20 of them through out the day, bring bug spray.

Overall my cons weren't so much serious, just complaints. This is a very fun, and challenging course. Had my drivers out all day! So warm up that throwing arm and get yourself a couple of good 'rips' on 18.

At first glance, when perusing the hole distances and looking at the different fairways you would think there is a large advantage to having a big arm on this course, and there is. But the overlooked aspect of having a big arm is accuracy. It really is no different than midrange except that if you miss the shot you miss by a long ways. This is where this course shines. There are indeed a variety of shots and lengths on this course and many of the drives have different paths available. Often on the long distance drives available on this course if you miss the shot you will pay a penalty, whereas your buddy playing conservatively won't. The middle range holes reward accuracy greatly. Getting the proper distance on your throw is the difference between walking down a ski slope after a disc and a parked disc.
The holes are set up in a sensible manner, the teeboxes are in good shape the are long and short teeboxes for most holes. Signage is good. Fairways are pretty well maintained and it has a air conditioned proshop with food and drink.

Some of the fairways are pretty rutted and the out of bounds areas can be very thick. There is a lot of walking up and down ski hills. Wind will play a large factor on some of the holes.

It is pay per play and is rarely overcrowded. When driving down the last hole it is smart to have multiple sets of eyes on the discs thrown. There are multiple opportunities for aces on this course even if you don't have the huge arm.
