Technical lines abound

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Tight wooded lines with variety in shape and elevation
Good course flow

Cons:

Short overall length. Some poke-and-hope lines
Susceptible to muddy terrain after precipitation.
Minimal signage

Other Thoughts:

The Illinois Central College DGC is a showcase of the wooden, rugged terrain in the land neighboring the Illinois River. Short technical lines are the calling card of this course, a fairway driver is likely the fastest disc required to navigate this track.
The course style is very similar to that of the Eureka Lake permanent course and a step or two lower than Megiddo & Northwood and McNaughton & Wildlife Prairie, respectively.
While its overall length places its rating below some of the more longer and challenging courses in the area, it is still a fun play and one that is a quicker, more compact and less exhausting.

Short, Technical Woods Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Tight, wooded fairways require accurate line-shaping to score well
- Baskets and tee pads are adequate and in good shape
- Multiple pin positions

Cons:

- Limited shot variety
- No benches, very simple tee signage
- Fairly short and mostly flat

Other Thoughts:

Illinois Central College's disc golf course is a fairly short and technical 18 holes through the woods. Your enjoyment of this course will depend largely on the style of golf you prefer. If you enjoy longer, more open courses where you can play around with many different lines, this might not be the best course for you. However, if you enjoy a course with tight fairways forcing you to execute a particular line in the hunt for a birdie, ICC is the course for you.

There are a lot of tough and narrow but manageable fairways on this course, and with the exception of a few holes that feel a bit poke-n-hope, a good throw is usually rewarded with a birdie. The two longest holes on the course are also two of the best. Holes 4 and 8 each provide a bit of length to the course, and require good placement shots to card a par or birdie 3 respectively. Holes 6 and 17 are also quite good, featuring some of the limited elevation on the course, and a cool tunnel shot.

The middle section of the course does get rather repetitive. There are several short tight holes in a row, the majority of which feature a left to right turning fairway. If you can throw LHBH or RHFH well, you will definitely have an advantage on this course. As previously mentioned, with the exception of holes 6 and 8, the course plays very flat. A couple of holes cross the line from being tight but fair, to having "fairways" with almost no discernable route to the pin, leading to the poke-n-hope approach for many players. The tee signs aren't great, but the course is so short you can usually see the baskets from the pad, so it isn't that big a deal they aren't more descriptive.

ICC's disc golf course is a good course to have on a college campus. Its length makes it accessible enough to newer players, but its tight, technical fairways provide enough challenge for local players, and will certainly help you learn to hit your lines. I enjoyed my rounds here, but I think it helps to know the kind of golf you are getting yourself into before starting.

ICC in da Woods 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 15, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

ICC is located on the campus of Illinois Central College. The course plays entirely in the woods. There are several sections of very nice pine trees. There is not 1 open shot of the 18 holes. The land is pretty flat.

There are several very fun and memorable holes.

Cement tee pads and Innova Discatcher Baskets.

This is a very technical course and requires accuracy.

2 sets of pins add variety of length. The long pins can play tough.

Tee signs are adequate. They are basic and have the distances.

Pretty easy to navigate.

Cons:

The tee pads are very irratating. Although they are cement they were framed on top of the ground. They are 2 to 3 inches above the earth. Please be careful you don't break and ankle.

This course gets very repetitive.

This is par 54 wooded golf. Here are the results from a few years ago from mixed tees. SSA played at 50 -4 and 49 -5

Small parking area but no facilities close. There is a McDonald's Gas Station across the road.

There are no areas where you get a chance to open up and rip the disc.

Other Thoughts:

This is not a beginner course. If you are not throwing straight this can become a game of pin ball and very frustrating for beginngers.

If you are in Peoria and have limited time i'd suggest skipping this course. Make sure you play Morton, Pekin, Eureka, and Bradely before this one.

I find myself skipping this course for others.

The Riverboat is not far from here.

A walk in the woods 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Very nice wooded course, a good mix of straight, anhyzer and hyzer shots
-Mostly flat but a few holes have slight elevation changes in the middle of the holes
-Nice tight fairways on almost all holes, they require a lot of accuracy.
-Concrete teepads
-Alternate pin locations
-Easy to navigate with paths from pins to next tee pads. But you get this great feeling of solitude at this course
-Practice basket by parking lot
-Some garbage cans on course
-Some natural "benches"

Cons:

-Course gets a little redundant, which is a pretty common con for all courses that are completely in the woods
-No facilities (no bathrooms, water, pretty small parking area)
-Course was a bit on the short side. Local knowledge says that course lengthens and toughens substantially when pins are in the B placement
-Vandals have been a nuisance in the past, they pulled 14 out of the ground and threw it in a ravine
-I really don't like the signage at peoria area parks, this course had small yellow metal signs with a tee and a basket with a suggested route and hole length, sufficient but they don't depict any of the prominent hole landmarks. So it can show you anhyzer, but around which tree?

Other Thoughts:

I liked this course a lot, it was a bit littered. But overall it was really pretty with a ton of pine and hardwood trees. I can't wait to play it in B position. I loved the privacy and solitude at this park.

ICC College Frolf Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course was very fun to play. I played this course after I played the one in Washington and it's an entirely different world here even though it's only a ten minute drive away. It's very obvious that the disc golfers of Peoria love the sport because they take such good care of the courses. This course has a lot of trees as it's in a little forest and I'm pretty sure I hit at least 20 of them, haha.
The course is very easy to find because the practice basket (which had a little 10 feet radius green around it) is in the middle of the field touching the parking lot for the course.
It's impossible to get lost while navigating this course because the whole course follows a beautiful trail through the forest. I thought that it was pretty cool.

Cons:

There was a lot of litter here, which made me a little sad. Some of the signs by the tees were missing and some of them had been written on with marker. As has been said before, the holes seem to get redundant very quickly because the whole course is in the forest area.

Other Thoughts:

It's great that there's so many courses in such a little area in Peoria, but if you only have time to play one 18-hole course, I'd head down to Morton and play the Northwoods Park. This one doesn't have that much of a variety of shots and hitting trees gets very frustrating very quickly.

The Educated Woods 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 18, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well maintained course. Signs, tees, and baskets are all in tip top shape. A healthy variety of right/left handed holes. Being that the course is heavily wooded (and that it is), a player must be up for the challenge of throwing distance shots down tight & narrow fairways. Beginners shouldn't worry also, throws in the wooded areas can be easily made up.

Cons:

Course begins to become redundant being that almost every shot is in the woods throwing down a narrow fairway either to the right or left.

Other Thoughts:

Overall enjoyable course. Few courses within short driving distance of the course making it perfect for a day of disc golf for "travelers".
