Pros:
Technical, challenging, and varied course
Beautiful setting
Well-designed with nice concrete tee pads for AM and PRO
Two elevated tee pads
A couple of open holes (#1 and #9) so you can get in a good crank
Cons:
Heat & skeeters
Punishing jail--not obscenely so, but I'd stay on the AM tees if I didn't have good control with my drivers.
Moss--some of the tee pads in the shade, most notably #18, are slippery with moss or mold
Horse poo--there are a few horses
Other Thoughts:
This course is the definition of a hidden gem. In terms of quality, it's really a top-notch course. The tee pads and baskets are very good. There are benches at every tee. However, there are no tee signs. The course caretaker, Oscar, will play with you so you know where to go.
Oscar is very chill, and he's got a wicked forehand flick. He helped build the course. He was shooting close to even par on this difficult course. His son has some skills as well. I really enjoyed playing with them. The course is free to play, but bring a few bucks to tip Oscar (tip box on the first tee-pad).
Overall the course is not enormous, but it is quite difficult. Most of the shots from the PRO tees are technical. Be prepared to hit a lot of trees. The AM tees will be fun for beginners and novices.
There are 19 holes, the last being a beautiful ace run from an elevated tee pad, basically a tree house. This 19th hole is a great bonus hole where most good players will be able to knock a stroke off their score with a fairly easy two.
Bring water, sunscreen, and perhaps bug spray. Luckily about 2/3 of the holes are shaded, so the heat isn't overpowering on most days. Also, I suggest bringing slightly more high-speed, glide-y discs than you might think necessary. None of the holes long, but due to the low elevation and high humidity, I found that my discs did not fly as far as usual.
The bar and showers were built but not operational at the time of my visit. The course in general is not getting much traffic despite being in great shape. The locals don't take any interest in it, and most of the travelers at the hostels/guesthouses/hotels don't even know it exists.
Thank you Oscar and Anthony for putting together this terrific disc golf course.
