Pros:

Joe Hamilton is only playable on weekends or after 5:30 pm on weekdays
Course is great for begginers and family
The baskets catch pretty well and the tee pads although not the biggest, our good concrete and long enough for the distances on course.
Another positive is most the baskets have the hole number on inside of them hole 1 starts by front school building and plays to fence after that fairly easy to follow as its only 7 holes
Play the fences as ob and the playground area as out of bounds to add challenge and safety

Cons:

You only need 1 disc I guess that could be a pro also
No signage on the teepads or course once you find hole 1 really easy to navigate but need a map to make sure you're on 1st hole.
Short hole lengths, and mainly wide open course.
Only 7 holes
If it was super windy might add to the challenge otherwise fairly easy course
Not playable during the week until after 5:30 pm which is good because a lot of the holes play next to school buildings and playgrounds

Other Thoughts:

Its got okay distances for the elementary kids but the fences would be kind of an issue. Still would be good to use as a P.E activity and making a little safari course for the kids. It's a fun little course to warm up for the bigger ones nearby or work on upshot putting on the weekend

Father’s Day #7: 7 Holes in a Schoolyard 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Joe Hamilton Elementary is a K-5 school located in the center of Crescent City. Playing around the outskirts of its playground sits 7 holes. We arrived here at the crack of dawn after having spent the night at a hotel just a few blocks away, and played a few rounds before I think anyone else in town even got up. Like VK says its an odd school course with holes in the 200 to 300 foot range its playing a little too long and difficult, especially for K-5. Even more odd is the fact that its not that big a school, they were only able to get 7 holes in and that's pushing it. I guess Crescent City really wanted another course. The course is only open to the public when school is not is session. The holes play in and out of the grove of trees that wraps its way around the outskirts of the playground. The trees provide some decent shot selection and challenge but it is still a very beginner friendly course. A nice play to relax and work on your shots, kind of feels more like a practice area than a course for anyone other than a beginner. Nice warmup for Beachfront I would guess as its only a half mile away.

Cons:

Only open after school or on weekends. Although it is easy to recover a disc the hole play very close to fences, the neighboring apartment complex, and the parking lot. It also plays near playgrounds and sand boxes and such as its literally in the middle of the school play yard. Definitely would not be playable with kids present.

Other Thoughts:

Perfectly reasonable little recreational course. Would be fine to bring beginners and kids. Hopefully will expose more children to the game. Not a bad course, just not a destination course by any means. Probably a good changeup for the craziness that is Beachfront for the locals.
After playing and warming up here, were heading to Beachfront Park for the 24 holes there.

Perfectly Serviceable Little Rec Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

This works as a great little rec/beginner course when you don't want to tackle Beachfront. The baskets are DGA models. They're older and are showing some signs of rust but catch well here. At the base are small blue triangle pieces of tile set in the concrete base pointing to the next tee. They're not really needed here but I liked having them anyway.

Question?? Why do course designers put great navigation aids like these little blue triangles on small pitch and putts courses like Joe Hamilton where you don't need them and not on some wilderness courses where you end up wandering around around forever trying to find the next tee pad?

This end up having a couple of nice ACE runs. The on-line map was excellent! I guess it's fairly simple to make a map for a 7 hole course.

Cons:

For a course designed for elementary students, it's a little too long, a little too difficult, with too many baskets too near fences and opportunities for students to throw into the nearby apartment complex or as in the case with # 7, into the teacher's parking lot.

Basket's # 1 and 3 are both set too near the fence for elementary kids. They'll be firing their discs over those fences all day long.

Teeing off from # 6 near the apartment fence, students will throw over the fence here. Also there is currently a branch hanging broken down right in your way. It needs to be removed. Right now, it forces you to roll so I kinda liked it. Gives you another look.

On # 7, kids will find a way to throw into the parking lot. Believe me, I teach elementary Physical Education and I know how poorly these students throw.

Other Thoughts:

I like this course a lot as a recreational course. A place to bring a newbie or just to practice. It's shady and has some fun ACE ops.

I don't care for it in regards to elementary students. I don't think I would trust kids to use it at recess. It might work as a structured P.E. activity.

So I'd rate it about a 2.5 as a rec course and about a 1.0 as an elem. school course. We don't have a 1.75 rating so I'm rounding it up.

My wife and I played this course on July 26th. School was out for summer. We brought our dogs and it was perfect for them.
