Needs some TLC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 16, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are many mature trees on the course that make you think twice about throwing without any preparation. This is an ace run course if you have been playing for any amount of time. This course used the available land they had (not much) to make a decent little 9 hole beginner course. Concrete tee pads and hole markers on each hole help navigation because everything is close to each other.

Cons:

The baskets are in serious need of repair/replacement. A few of them had basket separation and missing/broken chains. I worried on one or two baskets about making the putt but having the disc fall out because of a broken basket.
The course needs more trash cans. It seems as though the large amounts of teens coming there to hang out and throw discs need somewhere to throw their "Nat Ice" cans instead of next to the tee pad.

Other Thoughts:

This course would be a great place to teach a younger child how to play. It is short enough to boost confidence. You could play this course with a putter and a mid-range at the most. Only one hole was long enough to have to put any mustard on the drive. I would hit this course only if I was in the area, but never make a special trip up here. I believe this is one of the older courses in Colorado which takes back to the early days of disc golf.

2+ years drive by

Pros:

Decent little 9 hole course located in Littleton. In a small park and very easy to know where the next tee is. Concrete tee pads, although kinda small, and baskets are in pretty good condition. All short holes, besides one, but the course makes you use a variety of shots to be able to make your birdie. Fast play to be able to get a quick 18 in.

Cons:

Very busy on the day I went. It almost looked like there was a high school class in secession and had to wait through the whole course. Some of the fairways cross so make sure to watch out for flying discs. Some of the baskets could use updating/replacing as the look like they get a lot of use.

Other Thoughts:

The is a good course for everyone; beginners to advanced. Next time I am in the area I am for sure going to stop by for a quick round.

Pros:

Nice area, nice little park. Very family oriented.

Cons:

Very short. Could play this with a putter. Lots of younger players out in groups of 5 or 6.

Other Thoughts:

Good for practice but would hit it while school is in. No much of an exercise course meaning it is flat and very short.

Introduction Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 20, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Every course can offer something. In the case of Ken Caryl, it is a great course to introduce newcomers to disc golf and practice your short game. The holes are VERY short with legitimate ace opportunities on 8 of the 9 nine holes. (although boasting about an ace at Ken Caryl won't likely get you many oohs and ahhs) Overall, the course is well taken care of considering its small size.
The grass is mowed grass, it has big shady trees and it is located in a nice neighborhood.

Cons:

This is a big teen hangout after school and on weekends. They tend to be respectful, but there does tend to be a lot of discs flying through a very small airspace at one time.

Other Thoughts:

Even with the crowd, three rounds in under an hour is very realistic.

A Remnant of History 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Beautiful little park course. Easy to navigate without a map. Concrete tee pads are smallish in size, but for these short holes most players won't use a big run-up anyway. Well designed on not a lot of land. There shouldn't be any pedestrian interference. Plays fast with close, short holes and not a lot of walking. Almost impossible to lose a disc.

Cons:

No distances posted on any of the signs. Exceptionally short course; eight of the nine holes are between 100'-200'. Fairways are close to each other so beware of errant throws from your neighbors. Some of the single chain (except #9 is 2x) baskets are starting to show their age.

Other Thoughts:

I heard this course is called the "postage stamp" because of its compact area. Only hole #5 (312') might require a driver disc, all others can be played with a putter or good mid-range.

At 30 years old now Ken Caryl is a testament to what disc golf once was. The holes are built for discs that had no concept of "Ultra-long range driver".

There are enough challenges and decent variety to make this a nice course to work on upshots and putting for most players.

Short Course great for introducing Friends to disc Golf 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 18, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great for working on Approach and putting. Short holes are good for beginners. Playing over mowed grass! Good place to practice playing around trees. Good Baskets and Tees!

Cons:

Cigarette butts all over the place as teens use this place to throw discs and smoke. Very little distance.

Other Thoughts:

This is a good course because a lot of people started here. Now they are playing on the bigger courses!
