Great range of shots. The different tees and types of holes was amazing. I was never bored with this course.

Very overgrown. I easily would have rated this course much higher if it would have been easier to play or follow.

(2.818 Rating) A raw and developing course through a wonderful landscape.
- CHALLENGING - Finally a course in Fond du Lac County that can challenge Intermediates and low end Advanced players. I admittedly threw the fronts cause I couldn't find the course length posted anywhere before my play. I played horrible and finished over par as a 920ish rated player.
- UNIQUENESS - I found the mix of hole styles to be entertaining. Hole (1) starting off is a tricky split personality shot that starts open and barrels into an elongated pocket. There are a bunch of fully wooded holes playing through both hardwoods and pines. There are also a few lightly wooded downshots using some firs. (16) is a neat shot that plays down 30 feet or so and requires a shaped left to right drive thru a gap to a landing area. Then it's a 150 foot shot that sweeps back to the left. Hole (16) is the lone par 4.
- RAW BEAUTY - The landscape reminds me a bit of a raw version of Zobel Park. There are some lovely sweeping elevation changes and some tranquil heavily wooded narrow lines. My favorite tee shot views were (2), (11) and (16). The run of holes (5) through (10) is a rather monotonous stretch using planted pine tree rows and it brought my overall beauty score back a touch.
- CHAINS - Pretty Veteran baskets to throw at.
- OPTIONS - Adelaide had been the only course in town for the past 18 years. Finally an easy way for locals to switch it up.

Too new
- RAW - Kiekhaefer was cut through some terrain that has likely never been kept up before. There is a lot of wicked overgrowth areas and errant shots or bad ricochets will find it. I put my drive into chest high grass a couple times and that's never a fun experience. Pretty sure I saw some poison ivy. There are some thorny spots as well. This course is going to need another 2 years of moderate play and upkeep to beat in.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - For all the reasons stated on the con above and the difficulty, this is not the place to introduce someone the game. The course I think is aimed for those with 850 rated skills or better.
- TEES - Natural grass in most cases and a few were in horrible condition. Perhaps some of the difficulty comes from the poor pads. The beginnings of a new pad using gravel and form boards was in place on (13). Man, I hope they don't finish the rest off with shifty gravel.
- LACK OF FUNDING - I put 5 dollars in the donation box and I hope other do the same. It does not appear that the parks department is going to put in money for benches or tee pads or other goodies. It may be awhile before this course gets tricked out with the typical creature comforts.
- DISCONTINUITY - There are some odd transitions and some significant gaps between holes. Thankfully on my play, most gaps had directional arrows at logical locations.
- TIME PLAY - It took this quick bagger 80 minutes solo on an empty course. I figure foursomes at a 150 minutes.

A really tough course to rate and I would predict that first impressions of this course to be all over the board. There are some really great aspects, but also some fun killers as well. The key part of my probably too high of rating score, is the land. The land is the land... and it's wonderful. The golf aspect still needs to get ironed out. This course is likely too raw yet for many players and I doubt beginners will like it. This will be a sweet course if the money investment and volunteer work continues.
- NAVIGATION - Passable. I was able to find my way around with just a couple hick-ups. No course map on DGCR or on-site. There are however lots of navigational cues between holes. The tee signage is cheap and barely readable on a couple holes, I doubt some will be usable in a year's time. Hopefully this aspect gets an upgrade as funds become available.

To start things off. Take this review for what it is. It's a review of a very new, rough around the edges course. I'm going to go with a 3 for the time being. It's good. Lets start with the baskets. 18 red Chainstar Pros here. Excellent baskets, some of my personal favorites. All are installed level and are in fantastic shape. They catch great and are nice and easy to spot. Love these. There appears to be 2 pin positions on every hole If I remember correctly. If not all, then most do. The tees are either gravel or natural. Shorts and longs on every hole except one (15 I think). These are all pretty solid for the most part for the distances required on most holes. For what it's worth we played from the shorts, but the majority of longs to shorts are only 15 to 30 feet back from the shorts, maybe a bit skewed left or right. The shorts have 2 blue painted stakes and the longs have orange painted stakes serving as the front corners of the box. The tee signs currently are temporary, laminated hand drawn signs. They have a hand drawn map of the hole. These show both the long and short tee locations as well as the 2 pin locations. They also have the distances from long tee to pin a and short tee to pin b and vice versa. Fine for now. There are also a bunch of next hole arrows throughout. More than enough for hole 6, 5 of them I believe. But this really helps with navigation, especially from holes 5 through 10 in the pine grove section. The first 2 holes start out Idlewild style. Tight, and wooded. Don't worry. It gets better from there. Holes 3 and 4 open up as does the wind too. Then it gets into a bunch of short but technical holes in a pine grove. Then back into the openish for the final 6 or so. Nothing is wide open though. The elevation here is more on the minor side, but it is not flat by any means. The last few holes offer some decent variations in elevation. Hole 5 is in this section too. More prairie style, but with actual trees. There is a good mix of shots required to score well here, or at least have a chance to. I threw sidearms today. I don't when I can but I had to.

As I mentioned above, This course is still very, very raw. So take these cons with a grain of salt. The tee pads have a ways to go. While the gravel pads aren't the worst I've seen, they aren't the best either. Hole 13's I believe was framed in gravel which was nice. Not sure if this is the direction they're headed but it was well done. This was the only one of these. Now my main con would be the tee signs. Now, again, I understand that this is a new course but these are mostly useless less than a year after installation. The signs are pretty much illegible at this point. The positive is that you can see/figure out where the basket is pretty easily on basically every hole.

I think in a couple years this is really going to be a pretty excellent course. I personally already kind of like this better than Adelaide Park. But that is more just my personal preference for more wooded golf, as opposed to open holes. Now, with that being said I really like the design of this course. I believe this has the potential to be a very good course. With the land they had to work with I think this is a great course. I loved it and had no navigation issues but I can see how that would be possible. Let's just call it a great start. It's not going to be Rollin Ridge. But what is. Definitely worth a stop if nearby or traveling through. Great job to whoever designed this. Keep up the good work. This more than anything is just a fun, yet tricky course to play and a GREAT addition to the area. Well done. Now let's keep it going.
