Pros:
Course has now been expanded to 18 holes. The original Mach Vs are in decent shape, but the new ones are in great shape. It looks like the original 9 hole course was in the middle of the park, mostly between the drive that circles the park. The new holes were added in thick woods and some open space on the west side of the park.
The original concrete tees are in good shape and the tee signs are very good (better than the wood carving signs pictured on here), hole layout, par and distance, but they have not been produced for most of the new holes.
The new holes add a different element to this course, the orginal holes (mostly the now the Back 9) play through scattered trees, primarily straight with just some shot shaping, the new holes give you different shapes through thick woods and a few partially open holes (including a unique pin position), plus another Par 4.
Not a lot of other activities in the park, primarily just picnic shelters, which shouldn't lead to a lot of interactions, but one of the earlier reviews said this could be an issue.
Cons:
While they did a good job of clearing the new holes, including around the greens, the roughs are still pretty thick and the tees are sand/gravel, with landscaping flags marking the fronts. I would imagine the roughs will get beaten in with over time, and if the tees can be paved, it will greatly enhance this course.
Holes 14 and 15 share much of the same fairway, going in opposite directions, not ideal but I can see why they did it.
Without tee signs on the new holes, and the older tee signs no longer matching up with the correct number, its a little tough remembering which hole you are on. The Next Tee signs help, but the map on UDisc is a lot of help.
While the new layout no longer crosses the park drive (sand/gravel) you do play close to it on several holes.
Other Thoughts:
I'm sure most of us would prefer playing an 18 hole course over a Niner, unless you are short on time, or have several courses to bag in a day. I was surprised to show up and find an 18 hole layout (it was still 9 holes on here at that time), so I knew I had to play all the holes. It did change my plans for the day (baggers gonna bag) but not to any big degree.
The new wooded holes add a straight, tight hole, a couple of hyzers (with #7 forcing you to find a way through small trees in the fairway) and a large curving annie hole. But the best of these is #10, tee over a cleared but still rough fairway to nice grass, setting up your second shot into a tight gap, turning left, then back to the basket. This Par 4 at 500 feet is a challenge on several levels.
The most unique of these is the 227' #11, tee across flat ground, through a few palm trees, to the basket, in the middle of a 6' concrete pipe. The pipe is 4.5 to 5' tall, just tall enough for the basket to sit it. So you have to be lined up with the opening, or else you are spending a shot to get in position. I'm still not sure how I feel about this pin position, possibly having to waste a shot from inside the circle (Circle 1 that is), but it would be a fun Ace to bag.
This 18 hole layout is a good option to visit in this part of the FL coast, not real convenient to I-95 for a quick stopoff, but if the several other courses in the are busy, you should enjoy playing here.
