Knot the Best... Knot the Worst. 2+ years

Pros:
- Private. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I LOVE private property courses. They always have a special ambiance and unique features like an OB Pet Cemetery.
- Rolled Out the Red Carpet for Me (and the Baskets Too). When I called (24 hours in advance) to make a reservation, the owner, Todd, said come on through. He told me to call on my way down the mountain so he could set up the baskets. I called an hour out... and when I got there, he was running around setting up baskets for me. Thanks Todd.
- Mix-Match Targets. I usually bang on courses for having mix-match baskets... but here it's awesome. Literally, every hole has a different type of target. Todd told me that he purposely wanted all the holes to have different targets so that each hole was unique... There's an old Mach V, DiscCatcher, several homemade baskets, different types of practice baskets, a very unique multi-colored plastic PVC basket with a funky plastic-cable like netting for chains, various tube-tones, a 4x4 with chains dangling from it, a couple of painted posts, etc...
- Pretty Cool Shots. For the amount of land available, there are some really great shots here. The whole course is wooded, but fair. And, a few of the fairways were pretty cool... especially the holes running along the creek bottom. Several shots have targets placed within close proximity to OB... creek, pond, roads and fences. And, the fairways require various types of shot shaping off the tee to be successful.
- Beer Drinkers Course. Not only is the course on Private Property which means drinking beer is legal... but the layout brings you back to the "clubhouse" every 4 or 5 holes... and this allows you to grab another beer. It also allows you to off load any un-needed weight or pick up other things you may need from the car.

Cons:
- "Knotty" Design. The entire 18 holes is laid out on about 8 acres... and this leads to some serious crossover, paralleling fairways, target/tee-pad proximity issues, etc... However, Todd told me that the course has been a part of the Home Grown Tour (a tournament series that takes place on private property courses throughout North Carolina) since 1999 and they haven't had any issues. "People love it... it's a good time" he said.
- If you think it's a con for a course to have natural tee-pads designated by two large rocks... and you think it's a con for a course to not have tee-signs... then, that's why I mention it here. Personally, for a backyard course, it's fine...

Other Thoughts:
- If this was My Backyard... I'd be Stoked. It certainly isn't a Brackett's Bluff, or Bud Hill, or Area 74... but it is fun. Knotty Pines isn't the most awesome course ever; but it is a good, solid, fun course with some quality holes. If you're nearby, or planning a road trip to the area, Knotty Pines would be a decent course to add to your list. Just be sure to call 24 hours in advance and...
- MAKE A RESERVATION. It's awesome when people take the time to build a course on their own private property... and then put it on DGCR so other DGCR'ers can come and check it out. It's not awesome when people are overzealous and try to force their way onto someone's property, forcing the owner to de-list the course (RIP). Therefore, make a reservation, be polite, treat these courses as if your own... and maybe more fun little private courses like Knotty Pines will get listed on DGCR. Besides, without a reservation, the baskets won't be set up anyway.
