Pros:

La Mirada is a very nice multi use park. There is a disc golf pro shop with snacks beverages and disc inside. The front course starts out in front of the building. The course has a good layout and wraps around the park. Good tee signs telling you were the pin is located, and well maintained course. Has some really fun shots and ob can come into play on couple with paths and road/parking lot. Good baskets and mix of distances and elevation keep this course fun and not feeling repetitive. The shot back to the parking lot on the front 9 is my personal favorite as can be easy birdie but leave it short might have a nice death put with ob behind it

Cons:

My only cons is a couple baskets play a little close together and some of the pins you're not sure if that's the right pin for your hole. After finishing 7 make sure to walk back to 8 as 9s pad is by 7s basket and you might accidentally skip hole if you haven't been there before.

Other Thoughts:

This course might be a little confusin for first time players but is a great course. Hole 13 is a insane mando shot through a tiny window and a par is a great feeling on that hole. I wish the water came into play a little more, but it's still very beautiful

La Mirada Regional Front 18 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

all grass play with mild rolling hills requiring some minor uphill shots and occasional downhill throws. Mature trees come into play on most holes adding to the challenge. Play moves around the lake making it a nice walk. Decent workout

Cons:

Haven't played the front for 20 years so needed help with a few tee locations which we figured out after a few minutes of guessing (#11) Park mower messed with us for a few holes on the back and @ 1 point thought he may have chewed a Champion Monarch, but to our relief was a branch.

Other Thoughts:

Perfect condition @ 700 am with no trace of wind, actually serene with the birds chirping. Did have to wait for a few morning walkers to pass but were all super friendly.

So. Much. Mud. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 8, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Great use of elevation, hills, sloped greens, uphill shots, downhill shots. A little bit of everything
-Trees add plenty of difficulty.
-Varying distances, from long bomb holes to short technical midrange holes.

Cons:

-I have played this course for nearly 4 years and have yet to see the turf completely dry no matter what time of day or year. There is almost always at least one of the following: swampy areas, standing water, muddy greens... You get the idea.

-Pedestrian traffic as some holes traverse walking paths

-Since it's such a popular course, crowds can get pretty heavy.

Other Thoughts:

-This really is a great course. The pro shop and back 18 make it a must-visit for any DGer in the area. It's just a shame that there's so many irrigation problems, I would give a much higher rating if they could get the wet turf under control.

Groomed and ready go! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 10, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- not super creative but plenty technical to keep newbies on their toes.

- free!

- regulars are very helpful and polite.

- Course character: clean, grassy hills, trees, grass, nicely spaced out.

- drinking fountains available

- feels pretty safe for solo ladies (bring your phone)

- wear your polo shirt if you want- It's not dusty here like other courses.

- hole 19- pro shop

Cons:

- Warning: Hole 13. If your disc goes in the dirty lake, there's a chance you will never see it again. Bring a few bucks- because if someone "helps" you get it, they may expect $.
Actual quote: "You have your wallet? Looks like you are you going to play your pretty girl card?" I was worried that he was going to mug me! But grateful he helped me get my disc.

...what happened to the good old days when people helped just to be nice?

- the geese smell bad.

- "rest breaks" are tricky here. You are pretty visible (plenty of people don't care even if there are kids in view).

Other Thoughts:

I will come again.

La Mirada 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 31, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-This is one of the classic disc golf courses, and it's exciting to play for that fact alone.
-Friendly locals, and the course flows nicely. There will always be people playing here, and it helps that the people that play here the most are nice and welcoming.
-Beautiful city park with pleny of picnic tables and other activities for before or after your round.
-Fantastic elevation changes. You'll have a few flat holes, but the rolling hills on the fairways make you change your game up a bit.
-Fairly open course, but there's a good use of trees on most holes that mix things up and make you get tricky with your throws. Bonus: there are a good mix of trees, from palms to broad leaves to evergreens.
-Easy to read tee signs on every hole, and multiple basket positions on every hole.
-Nice pro shop on site that has a great deal: bring in your used plastic and they'll give you half of what they'll sell the discs for in store credit. That makes for a good way to trade what you have easily while at a good course.

Cons:

-All the holes are pretty much the same length. For my taste, I think a great disc golf course is a course that has the most variety of holes possible, especially when it come to length. I would have liked to see a 700-800 footer or two mixed in, but for the most part, the holes hover between 250-350 feet, making this essentially a midrange/putter course.
-The grass is always soggy. I don't know if it's an irrigation issue or simply that grass shouldn't be grown in Southern California, but every time I've come here I've gotten mud on my shoes no matter how careful I am to avoid mud pits.
-There are multiple pin positions, but the tee signs don't mark which pin location is being used at a given time. This gets tricky on holes with blind spots.
-Some holes use the park's sidewalks as tee pads. It's not a big deal, but...
-A lot of people use this park that aren't disc golfers. Kids on bikes, couples on picnics, and people fishing in the pond are all obstacles at La Mirada.
-There are times when the course layout makes things tight and potentially dangerous, like at holes 14 and 15 where the fairways face each other. If you here "fore", pay attention.

Other Thoughts:

You have to play here if you're in Southern California. This is one of the SoCal big 3, along with Morley Field in San Diego and the course at Huntington Beach. I'll play here every time I'm in town, but I think it's safe to say that the reputation La Mirada has built up over the years began before course designers got creative with their courses. Compared to other Championship-caliber courses out there like Idlewild in Kentucky and Water Works in Kansas City, La Mirada is pretty tame. But, a pilgrimage here isn't a waste of time. Happy discing!

Great Evening Round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 13, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very fun course with lots of varienty. Very cool locals and relaxed atmosphere. It's FREE (most of the other courses in the area charge).

Cons:

Can be crowded with non-disc folks since it winds around a couple playgrounds and bike paths.

Other Thoughts:

I was really surprised. I flew in for the weekend and was in La Mirada to see a show and just showed up to play a quick round. I did not realize what a treat I was in for. The locals that play the course every day were really good about pointing out the trouble spots and keeping me on track. That and a 25 cent map from the pro shop made for a quick round on a great course.

Pros:

-Great to play after the back once your arms warmed up.
-Cool and Shady!
-Nice use of the terrain and placement of tees and holes.

Cons:

-Too close to the street.
-Water hazard by hole 13(friend lost his putter because of head wind).
-Way too many families there (can't blame them nice place for a family BBQ).
-Waiting way to much.

Other Thoughts:

I like the course a lot because of the course. However the amount of people there on a Friday around 1pm is kinda annoying always yelling "FORE" every time you throw as compared to the back. All in all i still want to go back to play but more for the back.

La Mirada Front 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

- La Mirada's Front 18 plays over rolling grassy hills dotted with large mature trees. Pines, various deciduous species, and palm trees constitute the main obstacles. Elevation also provides some challenging situations. Sapphire blue water comes into play on a couple of holes, punishing errant shots. Immaculately groomed and maintained.
- Mandatories galore force certain tunnel shots or eliminate the ability to simply take a massive hyzer route around all the obstacles. Mandos are well-marked, usually with large red arrows taped to tree trunks.
- Good mix of longer bomb 'em style holes and shorter, accuracy-needed ones.
- Decent signage shows all possible pin positions but not the current location.
- Disc shop on site. Bathrooms, trashcans, etc. located throughout.

Cons:

- Inconsistent tees, although not as bad as the back 18's. Concrete stubs at the front of some pads provide awkward protection against foot-faults, at the risk of tripping. Some tees are not level in the least. As with the back 18, slick sidewalks are recruited as tee pads in several places; however, the front 18's tees are generally in better shape and easier to deal with.
- Plays close to roadways and parking lots.

Other Thoughts:

- La Mirada has a very suburban feel. It is impossible to play a round without bumping into other park goers, although it doesn't create any real problems.
- Make sure you hit all of the many mandatories. This course punishes errant drives.

Pros:

Concrete pads are nice to throw from.
Great long holes to make you really throw your best.
Well maintained
Friendly people
Plays around a nice pond

Cons:

Not well marked anymore where pins will be
Baskets are not marked well confusing players
Lots of people walking around
Pro shop has gone downhill, used to have tons of discs and was run by a great guy but not anymore.

Other Thoughts:

Although not as nice as the last time I played 4 years ago the front 18 is still one of my favorite places to play. Its in a great park and has some fantastic holes. Its well maintained but still could be better. I recommend this to anyone who has the chance to play.

Beautiful La Mirada Regional 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 7, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-First and for most what a beautiful park for a disc golf course, if you have a big arm some of these holes are for you, environment is peaceful and friendly, grass throughout the park some old discatchers, some new, elevation changes? Yes, that is what makes this course a challenge along with trees, mandatory's, and a few park goer's, hole 9 seemed to be a hang out for some locals selling sodas, candy, snacks, we had to yell FORE! A few times. Teepads are all concrete and hole signage is at every hole indicating pin placement and yardage for each placement. Holes are easy to follow and navigate to the next tee. Very clean as I saw some trashcans throughout the park, would like to see a few more and some benches to take in all the beauty of this 36 hole course..well 5 of them previously removed on the back 18. Pro shop located near hole 1, didn't visit but im sure you will find it useful to purchase DG items, Oh and one other Pro is that this course is FREE as stated in other reviews. No problems with any other DGer's so if you show up solo im sure it wont be a problem joining a group.

Cons:

Too many Mandies..im the type of DGer who likes to use different routes and mandies limits me on doing so. Too wet!! Ive heard of alot of picnicers there but it wasnt bad when we were there. im sure this course could get very busy during good weather days, like summer.

Other Thoughts:

if your in the area come play this course, well worth the drive as i drove an hour to get there to play with some really cool heads.

Pretty sweet course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 2, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-18 Holes
-Its Free!!!
-Good variety of holes, with lots of elevation changes and nice scenery
-Beautiful pond in the middle (don't worry, you don't have to throw over it or anything)

Cons:

It's too far from my house (but that really isn't the courses fault)
Couldn't find much signage as far as where the next hole was other than a couple signs at the pro shop showing which direction hole 1 of both courses were. Luckily I had a few guides with me.
Its not DG exclusive, so you did have a lot of people walking around. Most of them, however, seemed to be aware that there was a lot of people playing this day (and there was a lot!) and tried to move along quickly.
Some of the players we came across seemed to be a bit douschey

Other Thoughts:

This was a really, really, REALLY nice course. It was pretty busy, as we were there on a Saturday, but we didn't really have to wait for anyone at any tees. There were a group of guys playing behind us though that were in a big hurry, as they were trying to throw as soon as we reached our drives, nearly hitting us on several occasions, and never once did we hear a "Fore", or even a "Hey, watch out." After about 8 holes of that and several stink eyes they finally asked to play through. We figured that would be safer than catching a disc to the head. It's a shame that we almost let that bone headed group almost ruin what was a lovely day at the park. Outside of that group, this was a lovely course, and I would highly recommend it, even if you don't live close. I came from the Antelope Valley, about an hour and a half from the course, and it was well worth the drive, especially considering that not only is there 2 18 hole courses there, but a few miles away is a pretty nice little shop called Discovering the World that sells every kind of disc you ever want (at least it seemed that way). So if you live in the So Cal area, or are just passing through, definitely take a stop by here. If not for the jerky group of people, (which I'm told isn't the norm), this would have easily been a 4-4 1/2 disc review!

Concrete Tee Pads
Multiple Basket Placements
Challenging
Great Variety
Very Well Maintained
Decent Elevation Changes
Plays Around A Small Lake
Fairly Easy To Navigate
Good Tee Signs at Each Hole
Other Park Facilities/Amenities Available

Cons:

Can Get Crowded (Course and Park)
First Hole Plays Beside Busy Picnic Area/Play Area
Can Get Swampy In Some Areas

Other Thoughts:

A few friends and I played this course as part of a disc golf road trip from Ohio to California. I played this course about six months ago, but recently found my pictures and notes from the courses, so I thought I would go a head and give the review since this is such a great disc golf facility. Course is decently laid out with a lot of variety. There are multiple types of shot requirements and the distances vary greatly. This course is definitely a championship type course for more advanced players, but beginners could play here as well. Beginners might have a tough time with the distance on most holes, but there is very little rough to lose discs in and the lake only punishes in most cases when you over shoot the basket, so this shouldn't be an issue for beginners. The only place that discs can get hung up is in the trees. There are beautiful mature trees throughout the course and they are very capable of catching any disc that come their way.

Some people have said they had some issues navigating the course. We didn't have issues finding our way through the course. I don't know if this was because the gentleman at the pro shop gave us a crash course on the layout, or because we were following a few people up a head of use. This said I guess I'm not going to have a fair assessment of what it could be like for a first-timer to go out there and play. The pro shop is now closed, last I heard, so unless you come across some fellow DG-ers, there could be some issues getting from hole to hole.

Once you get to the park, you will want to head towards the tennis courts, the old pro shop is between the two sets of tennis courts in the park. First tee pad is on the concrete by the old pro shop and the basket is located down by the lake. As I stated before, they lake can really only come into play if you bomb it past the basket. The first hole also plays near a busy picnic area so watch for other park go-ers as you tee off. After we teed off on hole one we walked down over the hill a bit and some kids had picked up one of our discs and was playing catch with it, so keep an eye out, discs can "grow legs" and walk away.

After hole #1 you have to walk up the hill a bit, to get to the tee for #2. The next few holes are all pretty easy to navigate, tee pads for the next hole are all visible when you finish the previous hole. The first place where this isn't the case is after hole #6. After #6 you will want to head to the corner of the park, near the intersection and you will see the tee pad for #7. After #7 head back down towards the street for the tee pad for #8.

After finishing up at #8 you will need to back track again, the tee pad for hole #9 is next to the basket for #7.

The tee pad for #10 is pretty easy to find, but #11 can be the worst on the course. After you finish up #10, head down the hill towards the lake. The tee is right beside the lake, when we played there were some benches next to the tee pad. The fairway plays back up the hill, away from the lake.

Holes #12, 13, and 14 are all easy to find, and the tee pad for #15 is on the concrete beside the gym (brick building to the right of the basket for #14).

After #15, head back up towards the gym, just to the right of the gym, is the tee pad for #16. Hole #17 and #18 are easy to find and put you right back beside the old pro shop.

This is a beautiful course and anyone who gets a chance should get out and give this one a go. Anyone who loves the game will enjoy this course no matter skill level, but it was definitely designed with advanced players in mind and they are going to be the only one shooting great scores out here. Can't wait to give this one a shot and check out the other course in the park. The pro shop is no longer open and will be greatly missed the guys that worked and hung out there were very friendly and helpful, and were great advocates for the sport. We came out from Ohio and the guy there told us about all the courses in the area and what was worth checking out, really sorry to hear that they aren't there anymore.
