Tee at last! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 14, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course is located in on the public premises of the Ecocentre de Taupinais that also provides outdoor education to school classes and houses space for allotments & equestral practice grounds.
As such, the area is quite widespread and we never had issues with park visitors or dog walkers interfering with the parcours (for me the biggest issue on most European courses). A full round might take you 1,5 -2 hours, but you are rewarded with a great mix of short and long holes (#8 is a 250m par-5 beast with the basket located on a narrow levee 5 m above the ground), open to wooded and wooded to open shots. Scenic pasture drives alternate with in-forest-tunnel shots, dog legs and raised baskets and its overall quite picturesque.
The baskets are brand new and the tee signs for the initial 9 holes even have little fun fact sheets attached explaining the specifics of the respective habitat and the animals living therein.
Public bathrooms can be found in the artsy looking wooden structure on Rue Robert Boron (behind #16 basket). Ample parking is provided at the Ecocentre (close to #1) or alternatively close to the bathrooms, (you'd just have to follow the path 400m to get to #1). Colored pine cones dangling from trees guide you to some baskets in the wooded part, but aren't used consistently enough to rely on. Still adds a little bit of flair :)

Cons:

Navigation is a bit challenging at first. The course has recently been upgraded to 18 holes (from the initial 9), but the map I found on the site of the local club http://www.mrfriz.fr/discgolf...rs/ecocentre/still shows the old layout. The only map of the new layout seems to be a printout stapled over the old map next to #1 (I'll add a photo), so better take a picture here.
As a result of the extension, the numbers on some of the tee signs don't match any longer (5 is now 12, 9 is 18 and so on) and some tee signs are missing. However, after you played the first round by map, it comes quite naturally and has a good flow to it.
As the course is spread out over a quite large area you have to walk over prairies and through little paths in the wooded parts, not all of them being easy to travel with carts (#8 basket requires you to climb on a rather steep 5m high levee).Other than that, there are not many elevation changes.
Also, on a couple holes the fairway is very narrow and thick blackberry bushes are itching to eat your discs for good. #14 in particular has you wedged between Skylla and Charybdis (or blackberry hell and electric fence) on what would otherwise be an awesome hole.
Lastly, you don't have any tee pads (just colored wooden bars in the ground indicating tee position), but I did not find this being an issue.

Other Thoughts:

This is exactly what this area needed (I've played for trees in parks for years with no course in sight). Even better, the guys did a great job of making this right, even if it might appear a little rough around the edges. The location is well chosen and the mix of challenge and landscape variation keeps this entertaining for the long run.
It is somewhat complemented by a much shorter, a lot easier beginners course installed 2018 in Montfort-sur-Meu (about 20km away).

If you are in the area, definitely give Le Prevalaye a try!
